In this video, I share one of my new favorite pedals with you: the Kasleder Albatross. It's a blend between a modern JFET pre and an old-school transistor fuzz. I have a hard time finding fuzz pedals I love, so I show you why I connected with this one.

Absolutely beautiful pedal both tonally and visually. I am a huge fuzz fanatic for bass. I have over 100 currently in my collection. I feel fuzz is one of those effects that is really situational. Have to have the right one to compliment a song. With delay, reverb, flanger, etc I found the ones I like and don't need more than 1 of each. Thank you for this beautiful video. I will definitely be adding one to my tonal library. Love these smaller builders who really put their heart and soul into their creations. Always wonderful when gear inspires.

The main selling point for this fuzz is that it gives you that vintage fuzz tone without it being to be first in your chain. I have a fur coat fuzz, which sounds GREAT ... But it's finicky and hates buffers. Seeing it in between your compressor and Bassrig makes me so happy, as i would want the exact same placement

Sounds a bit like a Fuzz Face type of circuit with a clean blend. I dig it! Another one to check out would be the EQD Bellows if you can find one. Doesn’t cut too many lows if you keep the fuzz level in the lower 50% range of it. I’m currently running one into an EQD White Light and it’s fantastic!

Love your videos, i ordered one of those.. it sounds like the fuzz i want... great for indie music and not too aggresive. could you maby do a video about how do you record your bass and videos for youtube? you made me want to start my own bass channel but i dont really know how to deal with the technicalities of video and sound editing (got my ableton set with my audio interface.. but from there i have no idea what to do ).. are you producing those drum beats by yourself are are you using some samples from elsewhere? great content anyhow! glad that I have discovered you lately, gave me back my bass spark.

Hi Philip, I was also looking for a long time for a bass fuzz. My main point next to keeping the low end is that it sounds like 1 whole sound. Almost every fuzz pedal with a blend knob sounds to me like 2 signals. 1 is the fuzz sound and the other is the clean signal. Those 2 sounds don't mix well into 1 whole sound. A solution is to make the clean sound a bit dirty. And I found that in the Zander Circuitry Sono. That one is a fuzz next to a preamp where the clean signal can pushed into a OD. Together they sound just great as a whole sound.

Loving the blend and the attack sound but I'm surprised it doesn't get a bit fuzzier! I assume it doesn't mind a booster before it to saturate it more. Of course your dry blend would then be boosted as well. I wonder how it clips when a booster is hitting that dry pass through. Nice video.

Blend control is useful. I haven’t looked into bass pedals much, but another useful feature for a bass distortion or bass fuzz would be some band limiting. The ability to keep the fuzz effect limited to a frequency range. So you could have a clean round bottom while dialing in fuzz to just the lower mids and up to taste. Similar to how plugins like Fabfilter Safurn can dial in distortion to a select frequency band. Anyone make an analog fuzz petal that does that?

I’ve been bass fuzz shopping and trying a few recently. I wouldn’t buy this because (in priority order) it’s not enough fuzz, it’s $300, I don’t like the form factor (size, shape), and I don’t like the paint color. When I want a light drive, I’d use an overdrive. When I hit the fuzz, I want a pretty gnarly aggressive sound. Still at $300, most people won’t buy this. That’s a lot for a one trick pony pedal, especially when there are a lot of competitive offerings that do fuzz better for considerably less. But to each their own. It’s subjective. I would love to hear if a stingray humbucker would drive it up into a fuzzier range though.

Find a used electro harmonix bass big muff pi nano. You probably won’t get it for 50 but a new one is $95, so used you should be able to get down closer to that target. Make sure you get the BASS model. The guitar fuzz pedals almost always filter the low end bass out. They make 3 versions with different features. Their mid size bass fuzz could be an option too, also about $95 new.

@@philipconradmusic Thanks! I’m playing bass in my church now, so bass stuff also interests me. Someone asked on Worship Bassists page if a Boss DS-1 was good for bass since they got one used cheap. For bass OD/Dist and EQing if I want it, I have the Wampler Low Blow Overdrive/Distortion/Notch Filter but am enjoying the Carvin BX1 bass preamp that has a parametric EQ and compressor plus other features. I play through the church’s amp-a newer G-K 1x15 combo that’s sounds great. At home I have an old Sunn and Traynor plus a G-K MB200 200 watt pedal sized head.
