I just added a P12 to my system. It to rid of a buzz and hum in my system than the Audioquest 1200 could not. It also made a dramatic difference in sound. Bass improvement was rather startling, sound was more open and holographic. Taking out the P12 resulted in duller, flatter sound. Even the wife heard it. It's taking my voltage from the wall which is showing 128 and what is coming out is proper 120V. For me, the Niagara 1200 is not even close to the PP in function, design or well, anything. The one thing I do not like about the 12 are the fans. They were noisy as all get out on mine and clicked. So instead of just returning it, I exchanged it for a P20. I knew what the p12 did for my voltage, my sound and protection. The 20 gives all of this and more, without running out of steam. Also, no fans on the P20 so its silent. There are so many out there who say they would never run their system without a PS Audio PP, and I can now join the list. I could care less about the measurements. I measure with my ears and not only did this solve my hum and buzz issue with a tube piece (proving it is doing what it is supposed to), it does all PS Audio says it does when it comes to sound, at least for me. If you have dodgy power like me (and we live remote, 30 min from the closest store or gas station) this will improve your overall system. If your power is great, then most likely not needed. These are system dependent just like any piece off audio gear. It's why PS Audio offers a 30 day trial. No risk at all. It's not snake oil if you can try it in your home for 30 days and get a full refund if you do not feel it delivers. It's not like these are sold at a Carnival side show ; )

Garth is a super smart guy and thankfully his comments on regenerators don't apply to PS Audio's. The one comment about current clipping and the enormous amount of peak current required by power amps is totally correct and one of the reasons we never recommend people use the type of regenerator that clips (mostly Class D based regenerators). These can (and do) make things much worse when driving power amplifiers or any products with a power factor of 0.7 or below. PS Audio regenerators are capable of supplying 70, 80 amps of instantaneous current for peaks so even the biggest power amplifiers never ruffle its feathers.

Perhaps we should put this guy and Paul McGowan of PS Audio into one room and let them figure all this out?

I have tried both Niagara and PS Audio regenerators and find them to be very system dependent. I only buy from dealers that allow returns so that I can return the one that adds no audible benefit for my various systems.

Well from my personal experience I would choose PS Audio. I have tried Niagara before, indeed it did nothing wrong. Yet I gained nothing by adding it to my system either. Then what is the point of me spending that much of money on a product that does nothing? Don't get me wrong I am not a huge fan of PS Audio power conditioner as well. But it makes me feel like I have achieved something by purchasing this product.

I have a PS Audio P5 powering, Simaudio Moon 680d DAC, Simaudio 700i Integrated Amp driving Dynaudio Contour 60 speakers. I can tell you the resulting Sound is incredible. Prior to adding the P5, the sound was great, after it was a whole new level of clarity, dynamic, organic, and smooth. I cant speak to the AudioQuest stuff but the P5 is as important to my system than all the other parts.

Learn from my current setting, I only know that the ps audio regenerator protected my devices from voltage fluctuations and maintenance stable voltage (voltage drop below 205v in dat time are quite frequent in my part of world) all the times. For this regard, I cannot find any solution from isolation transformer or any kind of passive protection mechanisms. I am considering to install stromtank for my network player, DAC and pre-amp, keeping the power plant for power amp solely.

Hi there (checking in from Denmark). I'm not an technician (at all), but from my understanding, some manufactories of amps doesen't think it's the right approach to run their amps trough any regenerators, like the French Company Lavardin, who believes it would destroy the overall performance of their amps. I own the top of the line combo (pre/Mono), and tried many many solutions for "clean power", but everytime i try to implement any kind of upgraded power cables, or even a regenerator (PS Audio), but noticed overtime that, without these upgrades the amps sounds way better and much more natural to me. Lavardin has a patent circuit (memory free distortion), which they believe will be effected negative, but you can upgrade their stock cables, with their own upgraded power cable, and yes i know it sounds like a smart selling trick, but when you first have heard what they do, in terms of any other power cable out there, no matter price, you are soon convinced. These Frenchmen can seems a bit odd in their approach, but in the end....the performance speaks for itself. I of course use all their upgraded cables (front 2 end), and when a company delivers that, made specific for their products, you can begin experience what real synergy effect is, and not the usually promises from various companys. This in fact works perfectly, and in my 35+ years with this hobby, i'm astonishing over what such a small company is cable of. Today they stand out, as some of the best solid state amps out there, in terms of musicality and pure musical enjoyment. They are not in the marcet to deliver all kinds of gadgets, or huge series of amps and speakers (yes, they do also deliver speakers for their amps, but under another brand, so the confusion isn't there, and the brand is: le Contoure). To be big in this game is not for them, and they don't even advertise, as they believe that much in their products. I think that says it all. But hey.....i'm not into getting your guys/girls on my team, because as always.....you have to listen for yourself. But if u get the chance to listen to a Lavardin amp, i'm sure you will remember that experience for life. Maybe it's not for you, but no one can claim that these amps are not musical. I stay away from AC Regenerators for my system, but i do own a Gigawatt PF-2 Power filter/distribution block, which makes me sleep at night, as i'm protected BIG Time by this filter, in terms of thunder/lightning, and other unpleasant things. It also makes sure that your all good in terms of polarity, so you get the most out of your system. Could be great if someone here could highlight why some amps doesen't benefit at all from regenerated power, like my Lavardin amps? There must be other brands out there, who experience the same? I will rest here, and put on a record. Cheers from Denmark

They don't make them because they might actually have to put something in those empty boxes they call Niagaras

My / Swedish problem is that the Power grid is allowed to have fluctuation + 10% and - 10% from the supposed 230v in our outlets. This gives a possible voltage from 207v - 253v in the outlets.

Ok, this was a loooong elevator pitch against AC Regenerators. Do i trust that guy in this pitch? Not for a second. Do i think that AC Regenerators are better. I dont know. I have Audioquest products (i.e. Rocket 44) in my equipment. But i compared them with other brands products. For me they had the best price/performance. So again, listen to your ears and make up your mind. And please, Audio Exellence Canada, do not make a cliffhangar out of this and make a test of these 2 techniques/products, and let us be part of it. Because otherwise, this was just marketing!

I've been using multiple models of the PS Audio PowerPlants for over a decade now. I also use shielded power cables that drain the shield to wall ground. The combination (easily demonstrated) results in a black background with no discernible noise. Less noticeable but still demonstrable is the power buffering the regenerator provides. They are quite expensive, but I am very happy with the results in every system (SS stereo, tube stereo, home theater, big amp, small amp) I have used them on.

Funny. I returned a Furman elite-20 that didn't solve my ground hum issue despite marketing claims of isolation. My noise floor actually increased. It was designed by Garth. I do currently own a Stellar PowerPlant 3. It eliminated all hum and has absolutely had a positive effect on all equipment plugged into it.
