The first thing I noticed about this game is how incredibly intense it is. It’s got just the right balance of standard fps movement and Hell-Let-Loose esque slowdown to keep you on edge. The battle cries are absolutely phenomenal and really drive home a feeling of adrenaline that other games like the CoD series don’t. My favorite memory was bunkering down as a machine gunner to hold one of the massive turrets on the Italian front and seeing the tremendous metal doors that kept the enemies out just get blasted off the hinges. Some games could just let the door open, but this was a full scale breach and clear, the door even killed a camping teammate as it bent open violently.

When Operations games were close there was really nothing quite like it. Seeing a group of randoms really rally together to take or defend a point at the death and make progress or win the game was fantastic, espeically if you were there leading the charge, reviving people, spawning people in, destorying vehicles whatever... it was stunning! Fine installing it again right now hopefully some of my favourited servers are still up did give it a good replay a year or so ago and it was still fantastic as long as there are active admins banning cheaters and stuff.

This is the only game where I preferred iron sights snipers. The lack of scope glint combined with the satisfaction of hitting snipes with irons made it extremely fun. I think the iron sight Lebel Model 1886 was my most used gun in the game. If it was close range I'd use the Gewehr M. 95. It was good because of the straight-pull bolt, which meant you didn't have to un-ads between shots, and it re-chambered very quickly.

Sniping was so well done in this game. Having different sweet spots for the different rifles in order to one shot to the chest was such a great addition to the game. On top of the classic marksman bonus that gave you points for how far the target was on a headshot. Truly a missed feature in bf2042

Bad Company 2 is my favorite for sniping. Everything in that game just felt heavy and had a loud impact noise. On top of it just feeling good to do the animations for cocking the bolt back on any sniper was like the character was trying to rip the bolt off which just added to the sound of the shot; it felt like even the weakest sniper was loading a cannon ball.

Not only was the sniping great but many of the tools you had contributed, the strength of the pistols in bf1 meant I never felt like I was hamstringing myself if I wanted to be more aggressive. The sweet spot mechanic is an amazing way to make the game feel more realistic in a gamey way I love it. You get the chance to get one shots making it feel more realistic without making it annoying and overpowered by locking you at certain distances that determine your effectiveness and capability. It's a great satisfying mechanic to play around with and always keeps me switching around sniper rifles and moving from spot to spot trying to get the perfect distance on a conquest zone or against another sniper, I hope to see more of this!

i would argue the the sweet spot mechanic isnt fictional at all. If you shoot someone with a high caliber weapon at point blank, sure its still going to do serious damage, but it penetrates to quickly to dump all of its energy into the target. whereas, a hollow point at close range will stop in the target and dump all of its potential energy into said target.

I agree. I played more bf1 than any other newer releases of battlefield games. Bf3 and bf4 were my faves tho. Bf4 was battlefield perfect. Ui, maps, gameplay, story. Everything. Battlfield just isn’t the same anymore. If they kept the ui they had originally and never tried changing something perfected already. “If it aint broke don’t fix it” type of mentality is needed💀

Hearing about BF1s resurgence and seeing your vids reminded me of one ofy favorite moments a few years back playing the game, possibly my favorite of all the battlefield games I've played: So I don't remember the name of the map or what team nation I was on, but me and a handful of other players were by a partially destroyed house and we were pinned down by suppressing fire while hiding behind a log from on top of a near by hill. I was playing assault and was running a shotgun and I think AT gadgets with the huge ass gasser revolver. After a couple minutes of me and this squad peaking to try to take out the group of like 5 on the hill, I lost patience and just charged the enemy position by myself. Hoped into the trench or whatever they were hiding in, unloaded all my shells into the group, killing them all then running back to my buddies to reload. We then ran off on our separate ways. Sometimes the worst plans work for no reason

It was my favorite mechanic in that game. There could be SOME validity to this mechanic. Rounds from rifles are designed to expand in the target at certain velocities. It would be plausible that up close the bullets are either expanding too early to penetrate deeply enough at close range and at long range they are going too slow to expand and end up drilling holes without expanding.
@jiboo6850
@jiboo6850 Жыл бұрын
you got it partially wrong. 1: too close, the bullet is too fast and just drills a hole and expands only once out on the other side of the body. 2: right range, the bullet expands at impact like it's supposed to. basically acts like a long range shotgun. 3: the bullet hasn't enough velocity to expand anymore so it just drills a hole. acts like a regular bullet from a hand gun. 😉

i think another reason sniping was so popular in bf1 was because all the other weapons had such crazy random bullet deviation.
@connorbranscombe6819
@connorbranscombe6819 Жыл бұрын
That’s why I sniped, plus another reason is that it was faaar easier then any other game, as you said the spread made it much harder to get suppressed as a sniper, the velocity on the rounds made it super easy to pop heads, and the sweet spot system made it so you didn’t have to even headshot half the time. Truly the easiest sniping has ever been except maybe Bc2.

My favorte sniper mechanic i have ever seen was on a roblox game lol. On standard issue, snipers where slow and when aiming had a lot of shake, until you held your breath, then your screen would slowly zoom in on your scope, and the shake would slowly go away. It made it feel like you where really lining up a shot, but at the same time you couldn't hold your breath for long so you couldent camp with it. Combined with wind and a good amount of drop, it was challenging but very fun

The "sweet spot" gets rid of the "ghetto shotgun" of some of the previous games, but at the same time isn't too far out to discourage PTFO. (The added bullet drag mechanic also ensures such by slowing the bullet down drastically over range.) The M1903 Springfield and M1917 Enfield have the furthest out "sweet spot" ending at 150 meters. It takes about 25 seconds to sprint that distance. Meanwhile, it takes about 33-34 seconds to neutralize and capture an enemy objective (enough extra time to regroup). So, the whole idea of Scout is to provide overwatch for your teammates, spotting and/or eliminating enemies, as they advance onto an objective, and then to regroup with them as it's basically cleared. For thiese reasons, sniping in Battlefield 1 is the most well thought-out within franchise history.

Realisticaly, this mechanic it's just a plus because most of the time people and including me run around sniping CQB for headshots if not just change to the pistol and finish with one shot, I did this alot with the martini henry, 90% of the time the people won't react in time and will die, and when they do if they don't shotgun or headshot me, the random spray of the bullets mechanic or the 2/3 shot from rifles won't make time and they will die anyway. So for me this mechanic it's just a plus and didn't change the way sniper was used since BF 3 as I remember, I played a little BF2 and I can't confirm and BF1942 I played it alot but bots only, Bad Company 1 didn't played it but Bad Company 2 I played the heck out of it and with the aim assist and quick scope, it was easy land headshots or 1 hit kill in the torso.

One thing I truly love about BF1 is the fact that sidearms are powerful and can be used as well as SMG's or shotguns when done properly. I loved playing as scout with an iron sight rifle and I usually used a revolver as a sidearm, which is almost always a 2-shot kill, and that allowed me to push up and take objectives with my team as well as fighting at medium to long range. EDIT: The versatility of melee weapons also help. 1 shot with a revolver followed by one hit with a heavy melee weapon and you have a kill.

I think the bump in damage is realistic. Up close the round is travelling the fastest so it will pass right through tissue living a small hole which is more likely not to be lethal. As the bullet loses energy, over a larger distance, and slows down, it can stay inside the body transferring all of its energy to the surrounding tissues and causing more damage.

It does make recon very viable, almost overpowered. During the early days I remembered dying a lot to snipers. And the vanilla maps being very open with little cover, people like me who were grinding for other classes just had to accept death. In my opinion, the perfect spot DICE found for recon is BFV. Finally back to fps games after hiatus and decided to bought bf1 because it’s 4 dollars right now, I heard about how good this game is back in the day and after about 40 minutes playing I agree that this game is pretty good. It just that my first experience with this game is ruined thanks to cheaters. About the mechanics, personally I like the sweet spot between realistic and arcady.

I think the best part about getting kills in bf1 is the sound. Sooo satisfying

I think this game was someone's dream at EA/DICE. I'm a Refractor era BF player, mainly Vietnam and BF2, the latter had crap sniper mechanics. They had plenty of other issues too. BF3 and 4 were meh at sniping, and the weapon sets were questionable at times, but as a whole BF1 fixed their quirks and I wonder if BF3/4/3.5? was made with similar basis as 1 nowadays how much of a beast those games would be. BF1 was clearly an evolution, limited only by the era it was set in, if a standalone WW2 expansion pack had been developed it would've been light years ahead of 5.

I still play it daily, there are basically 2 servers in South America, at this point I know every single player I play with, I wouldn't trade it for anything, it's the best triple A shooter ever made
