It’s kinda weird seeing this whole situation as someone from a latin country. When you marry someone they usually keep their name they just add yours to their name, for example: Faith would be, Faith Kelly of Payne (Weird translation i know). Then the children get both surnames (dad first, mom second), but when they have kids their mother’s surname dies out. The kid’s name would be Kid Payne Kelly (both parents get representation).

I’m an only child and extremely proud of my surname. I always want to represent that. Obviously as a man I don’t need to give it up, but I actually understand her point. the tradition in it of itself is misogynistic as during the oppression of women through the ages they had no choice but to take the mans name as they now ”belonged” to him as a sort of property and when ethan cannot accept that she simply wants to keep her name because he wants to honour tradition its upholding these misogynistic values from the past, it would have been a completely different scenario if she actually wanted to take his last name but ethan is very much in the wrong for pushing this on her so diligently
