@CuttingBoardReviews Precision cutting tools are what we specialize in and we sent out all our work for heat treat. When it came back it would take 30 min to an hour to clean and test depending on the size of the jobs. Wages 25 to 30$ an hour on average. I'm sure when we do it for anyone outside the company we would probably double that. But a single piece already disassembled would be done regularly free of charge. I've tested some of my blades while on lunch. Why would I post the company name and number? Do you know how the internet works?

I’m on the fence with Benchmade, I own 4 knives from them, I love them all, but they are pricey. It would 100% be worth the price if it was 5 years ago when they would replace blades for free and other parts too. Now you have to pay $70-$90 for s30V blade replacements and the price only goes up with other steels. Their quality control is subpar compared to other companies but most issues can be fixed at home, they have good customer service, and you can work on you knives without voiding warranty. Overall, $180-$200 for a base model bugout is dumb, same with all their other knives. Benchmade Is good but overpriced.

I own a few as well and I’m with you, I EDC blades with 440C all day every day for work as a finish carpenter. Easy to sharpen and if something happens like a break or I lose it I’m not that upset. I own a few very expensive knives that I get for birthdays and Father’s Day and they sit in my safe.

That fuckenn test did not cost them a " couple hundred bucks"... None of it did.. it takes 30 seconds to disassemble a freek.. it takes about 2-3 minutes to sharpen s90v when your set up with everything to do it.. which Benchmade is, because they are manufacturing the knife . Now that doesn't take away from Benchmade cool life sharp program. And also their great customer service.. But since you wanted to flex your credentials, you should know all this stuff I mentioned don't cost a couple hundred bucks for people that are already set up for all the stuff you mentioned

@@CuttingBoardRxi call bullshit on that list. If they are charging all that they are worse then the governments waste of time. Guess all that extra charging is why benchmade has enough money to donate to crazy California liberals and gun grabbers. Just look up benchmade donation history. Of course they started hiding it after people foundout. I value freedom and my constitution i will never support a company that goes against that.

My $300 S90V Bugout came with one of the worst factory edges Ive ever had with a new knife. I have many $30 to $50 budget knives that came with a better edge. What good is their lifetime sharpening when they can't get it right the first time!

I've purchased 2 Benchmade knives, spent too much for both, and they both came in horrible shape. I returned one for refund outright it was so bad. The other I sent in for warranty repair and they sent it back in almost as bad condition that I received it in. When I tried to talk to them afterwards they wanted me to pay them more and said they can't help me otherwise. Really disappointing. It's the Brand name they've made & the fanboys who like knives but don't really use them much who keep the company alive I guess. Overcharge for a so so product and people who don't know any better just think it must be great quality.

Its a shame when companies like Benchmade who built great products and a good reputation and now deliver an average or below average product. Is it corporate greed, new management, poor quality control? I don't know enough about the company to say for sure. I grew up thinking they were one of the best production knife companies, today you won't catch me buying anything of theirs. Another company I can think of this has happened to recently is Klein Tools.

S90V is that way for sure. Very prone to chipping due to the hardness. In fact, I usually avoid edc’ing s90v for that reason. Elmax or m390 is more forgiving
@EDCandLace
@EDCandLace Жыл бұрын
S90v is not a chippy steel, nor is it chippy due to its hardness... in fact s90v from BM is ran 59-60hrc... m390 at a proper hardness will be ran 62+ and elmax is typically run 61 to 63hrc. So no s90v is not chippy due to its hardness as its typically ran softer then both other steels you stated. If you got chippy S90V its because the heat treat protocol is poor or the edge was over heated from the factory edge. This coming from someone that's been a professional free hand sharpener for many years and sharpen and test many 100s of knives every year. Most people that say s90v is chippy and "hard to sharpen" is just repeating stuff they have heard someone else say and neither have any experience at all with it. S90v in a production environment is one of the overall highest performance stainless steels you can get your hands on.

So a quick belt edge, disassembly and a hrc test punch cost BM a couple hundred bucks? Please explain how that is? The local machine shop will do a 3 punch test for me for 5 bucks a blade on a high end commercial grade hardness testing machine as well as do a XRF test and print out for me all for 5 dollars a blade. It takes about 5 mins to take a axis lock knife apart and about 5 mins to put back together. If that cost them a couple hundred bucks there is some serious issues.

Benchmade has absolutely lost their way. The 940 and griptillian series were epic and priced very well. The bugout, overpriced. Shoot out, overpriced. Don’t even get me started on the narrows. And I’m used to spending anywhere from $300-1000 on knives like the Arius I carry almost daily outside of work and the striders that are work knives. The narrows is a $300-350 knife at best. That extra $200 or so for nothing more than the warranty and sharpening service isn’t worth it. Especially when so many other American made knife companies offer warranty’s similar to that.
