Could he get a longer sentence than 5 years or so? Corruption by public officials is not looked upon favorably by judges, the probation office, and prosecutors. He gave the middle finger to the citizens of New Jersey.

Senator Menendez lawyers without question read him the riot act. They have to do what their client wants so they held their nose and went to trial and put the best defense possible. Senator just thought he pooped ice cream and got too big for his britches. Anyone who beat the feds never agrees to a rematch so why he did not run for the hills when he heard the words “cash” and “gold bars” and “gifts” is news to me. Spirituality teaches he who is not humble will be humbled. My sense is that forfeiture laws may kick in and his assets may be seized to satisfy tax obligation on “gold bars” and gifts if they were not noted on the tax forms. Not sure if he declared the items or not but if they were not declared and should be declared forfeiture can happen.
