I actually think Wanda coming out of a 30-year coma is pretty relevant as that’s what attracts BoJack in the first place: she knows absolutely nothing about him. The entire season we are essentially seeing the process of BoJack ruining a relationship that is completely reliant on his present actions. He can’t blame his past or reputation when they breakup this time. It was the choices that he actively made and the mentality he actively held in the current day that drove her away.
@CL-sj9lp
@CL-sj9lp 3 жыл бұрын
Also she was pretty much a twenty year old. It’s a trend in bojack’s relationships for there to be an uneven dynamic which really comes to the forefront in the last season

They're also both (one literally, one figuratively) stuck 30 years in the past. But Wanda moves on, she advances in the new world because of her attitude on life. BoJack doesn't. I think it's a beautifully written relationship, especially since BoJack probably WOULD'VE gotten better, faster with Wanda. But that would require him letting go of his own past, which he can't.
@sadpee7710

plus she's infantilized the same way he his. mentally they're still teenagers (more or less). yeah her body is 30+ or whatever but she hasn't been developing as a person since she fell into the coma, until she woke up. neither has bojack been developing since he became a celebrity. something like that.

@@CL-sj9lp One of my favorites parallels between Bojack and Mr. Peanutbutter is for their relationships to be with girls who are too young for them. Since they're both still stuck in their 20's mentally, they date women in their 20's until those girls mature too much for them.

@@Jer5Cat There were some moments I liked in S4 of Rick and Morty for sure. The first episode, the vat of acid episode, and the finale were good. It's just not even close to the quality of its previous seasons and Bojack in its last season was at its peak in my opinion so it should've been obvious and easy to pick who won the Emmy. But as you said that's just how it goes sometimes.

Yeah, when I discovered that I was so confused and upset. Like, I love Rick and Marty, but the episodes going against each other was the vat of acid episode and the view from halfway down. One of those is obviously better than the other, and its not the one that won. I did like the 4th season of Rick and Marty, but I didn't love the vat of acid episode in any regard. Meanwhile, the view from halfway down is at least 12 consecutive punches to the gut.

@@soulless1438 A "red flag" is a metaphor for a warning, a clue that there may be a problem, a sign of danger etc, so in a relationship, a red flag means that are hints that a person is no good before it becomes clear. What the character is saying is that when you wear rose colored glasses (rose tends is a symbol of love, so this pretty much meaning that your view is distorted by your love of someone), everything will look red due to the glasses, so you cannot differentiate between the "red flags" (warning of a problem) and the normal flags. So in summary, when you are blinded by love, you will not see the warning signs of a toxic relationship until it's too late. I hope this helps

"Wanda was in a coma for 30 years but that's not really important." I'm sorry... what? *Puts on "Um actually" glasses.* As Diane explains, Wanda is a 20 year old trapped in a 50 year old body due to her coma, much like Bojack. They're both mentally stunted, Bojack by his fame, Wanda by unfortunate circumstance which is one of the reasons they're able to form a connection. (Also because Wanda didn't know who he was and that was sexy to Bojack at the time).

Damn yall couldnt talk about PC for more than 60 seconds? I mean, good for overall but she is my favorite character and this season astablishes so much for the foundation of her arc. The line in this season specifically that stuck with me was when um "sonic" says she's 40 and should be willing to settle, to take what she can get or be stuck alone. And she replies "I'm not afraid of being alone." That was such a powerful statement for a female lead and its a sentiment rarely shown in older women. It was inspiring.

The thing with "running" and "it gets easier" is that, over the series, you actually see him improving over time. He makes a lot of mistakes and runs the circle again, but you can actually see an improvement over time. Maybe that's not what the authors intended directly, but there's definitely growth on his character, and it's not some sudden jump.

I could argue for season 4 because of how it changes the arcs of the characters and is the first time a happy ending for Bojack ever truly comes into consideration and the show shows that it has potential to do more then what it did in the past. But in terms of importance of the show in hitting its stride in terms of quality and in terms of the writers fully realizing what they wanted to do with the show? Yeah that’s season 2.

The “11th episode” in this season really struck me, horribly. Because it resonated with my issues, deep down. The fact Bojack created a nice life for himself, and people who cared about him, and then threw it all away in one night just resonated. I do that. I’ve done that several times, with multiple groups of people, and it hurts so damn much. I even stopped watching for 2+ years after that because it just hurt too much. Also I’m the game show episode where he just says “I want to feel alright for once” hits hard as well

@@mrrobotvoice8321 i do watch sad media, since crying over a story that isn't mine let's me reflect better on my own sadness. but i try to stay away from stuff that borders on existentialism and nihilism, which will always make me feel dreadful. For example, i just watched Wall-E a few days ago. I know that it's not really comparable to Bojack Honseman, but it is a movie that is guaranteed to make me cry. It's a way to let bottled up emotions out, while not being stuck in this feeedback loop of "i'm feeling hopeless", media: "the world is hopeless", "i feel worse"

OK, yes Bojack will absolutely be nihilistic and depressing. But the whole show is out so you won't have to sit in the despair for long. This show is like intense therapy, it's cathartic. I think that Bojack approaches these topics better than anything else on TV. And the moments of comfort that do appear from this show, the advice it gives, it comes from someone else who has stared into the same pit of darkness (a view from halfway down, if you will) and tells you that it's all going to be okay. ❤️❤️ There's always parks and rec if you only need the comfort blanket tho.

The ending song is very interpretive, and I feel like whenever it plays, it fits perfectly with the emotions they want you to feel as soon as you see what happens that might be surprised at the end, and it does an amazing job of tying everything together with the nostalgic beginning, "back in the 90s." Honestly just the perfect end for any tv show and a wonderful soundtrack overall.

The thing I've just recently realized about the New Mexico incident. I know Bojack saying that Penny looks like her mother was already a red flag but the thing I didn't realize about that line is that if her and Bojack were to get in some kind of relationship Bojack would most likely project his feelings for Charlotte onto Penny. Basically Penny, on some subconcious level, could be Bojack trying to get back the chance he missed with Charllote when she got married

I admit, the Improv/Giggleship plot was one of my favorite Todd plots because of the DEAD-ON Scientology parody. The improv theater is right next to a Scientology building- my friend lives in North Hollywood and DAMN - these centers are EVERYWHERE. The Giggleship is an obvious parody of the “Freewinds,” the Scientology cruise ship where the cult - I MEAN “CHURCH” - members take the elusive OT9 trainings (remember the numbers on everyone’s outfits in that episode? That’s a parody of the OT levels in Scientology.) Copernicus is CLEARLY supposed to be an L. Ron Hubbard type character- who was an avid science fiction fan and writer prior to founding his cult - I MEAN, “CHURCH!” And, Todd is definitely exhibiting cult-like behavior, which leads to his rescue by Bojack and Mr. PB. I’m sure there are other Scientology references I’m not thinking of right now but nonetheless the parody is AMAZING.

One thing I wish you would have pointed out though is how after he says “go to bed Penny” on the boat, he “leaves the door open” for us on whether or not he would sleep with Penny by literally leaving the door open to his room.
