Such a sick ass video! I have the same Tacoma except mines an 08. This makes me feel better about having a short bed Tacoma. Every time I’d see the long bed version of my truck I’d get regretful but this video gives me hope lol and a lot of ideas 💡!!!

I have a four door 2014 Tacoma with 5 foot bed. I can sleep in my canopy just fine no slide out and I am 6’1”. To stretch out I sleep a little diagonal sometimes. About to put an awning on it for cooking and sitting out of the sun etc. My back seat is where I store all my camera gear etc.

That's a cool design. There is no long bed dual cab, that dual cab is the same frame as an access cab long bed. That's the main reason why I got an access cab over dual cab for the longer bed which really isn't even that long. I have a similar shelf style set up that I made out of hard wood struts with pine flat sections to get above the wheel wells. 5 pieces total, 2 struts that fit into these notches in the bed so no hardware to remove, with 3 flat sections so I can have storage next to me like my bike.

''Someday'' easily turns into never. I've been living this lifestyle for two years and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made, but I think back on how close I almost came to not taking the plunge and it scares me. Don't wait. There will never be satisfaction in the rat race.

OMG that's brilliant! Would you happen to have a materials list and design instructions for that build!? Haha. I have a 5ft bed Tacoma as well. Looking to drive around the country checking out which state I want to relocate too and would rather save money on hotels. So I need to get a camper shell and design something like this. Any info would be greatly appreciated...both on the cover you have and how to build that extension! Great work.

*slide out...not slide in. So, the slide-out is just a cap piece? That's ingenious as it helps save on weight and maintains full use of camper shell space.

I need to have a longer bed. This is way too much engineering for me. I could never make it.
@DarxusC
@DarxusC 4 жыл бұрын
Wait, why did he get the double cab short bed, instead of the extended cab and full size bed, which has the same overall length? Because he has a dog? And because he occasionally uses the back seats (which the extended cab also has)? I totally support him doing whatever works for him, but I feel like I'm missing something.
@thomasrainbow
@thomasrainbow 3 жыл бұрын
Yes that and the maneuverability of a short bed truck. He also drives and works on mining roads from the 1800s in Colorado and the roads are very narrow for mining carts.

@joshe2178

You can get a 4 door - longbed Taco, but the wheelbase is longer and it's less nimble on the trails. A guy I work with has one though and he loves it, has a camper shell and sleeps very comfortably in it
@twotwentyswift
@twotwentyswift 5 жыл бұрын
The long bed 4 door only comes in the Sport model so you don't have the rear locking diff and the other off-road features. And the wheelbase is a pain for off-roading. I went with the short bed and an extension as well.
@Down2Mob
@Down2Mob 5 жыл бұрын
For sure, if you want the space and are willing to sacrifice a little bit of steering radius and breakover angle. They do make long bed 4 doors, some call them offroad limos Haha they are big but super sick! You could fit a bigger camper as well. I dig the 5 foot bed though. If I had a Tacoma, I would either have a GFC usa camper or a FWC
