Brock Purdy is playing at an MVP caliber level. It should be his award to lose. The tape doesn't lie and so we take a look at some of his best plays from last week and on the season.

I said it at the beginning of the year. Watch out for Purdy to win mvp. The game against the dolphins was when I knew he was the real deal. The unspoken attribute that few people talk about is confidence. Most rookie quarterbacks look horrible in their first starts. He stepped in after a huge injury in a tight spot against a good team and was unflappable. Purdy has the "IT" factor. When the lights get their brightest is when you will finally see the best from this young man. It's just what guys like him do.

Not mention throwing them "safe" - seems to me that they've been taking less big hits at the point of catch than previously, which is good for keeping them healthy and ready for the playoff run

Purdy plays so well he makes it look boring. That's what a lot of talking heads don't get. They get so tantalized by close call catches and throws, and think that's what makes an MVP. Appreciate you showing us all what a real MVP looks like. Keep it up!

Great video JD! It is amazing how many people don't know what they are looking at. After he came in during the Miami game I was surprised but skeptical. I never see `game manager` or `system QB` as being insulting. A QB first and foremost needs to be both of those things, able to manage the game , forcing it into their rhythm and must know the system so well that they can use all the weapons to best effect. If you manage the game properly according to the system and scheme and nothing looks forced then you are going to be very good for a very long time. When the QB is doing this EVERYONE on the offence works their backsides off knowing that he will feed them so they all eat well. Maybe the best way to separate two QBs vying for MVP is to compare how many uncontested and lightly contested catches their receivers make. The guy throwing his guys open more often is the better QB.
@toddamelio9489
@toddamelio9489 7 ай бұрын
@@dyrtybarstud5261 I think it is the WAY these terms are being used by the media. When asked about Purdy there are no definitive statements. They all say, "he is doing really well BUT"...excuse excuse excuse. He is not being held to the same standard as other QBs. They can never admit that they were wrong about him in the 2022 draft.
@dyrtybarstud5261
@dyrtybarstud5261 7 ай бұрын
@@toddamelio9489 To be understanding of the Haters, its easier to dismiss or minimise Purdy given the quality of the team and his draft status. They seem to forget that the most successful QB in the history of the game was considered by many to be nothing more than a possible Backup, INCLUDING the team that picked him. By now the media should be quite used to their takes being completely wrong. Take the Embid MVP in the NBA as a classic example of being fed a nice steaming hot serve of humble pie after his finals performance. Something similar looks likely to happen here too.

One thing getting missed this year as opposed to previous years under Jimmy G, is with our receivers, people are discounting Purdy on YAC (yards after catch) as opposed to YAC (yards after CONTACT) by our receivers. That alone shows his placement and timing are next tier. These talking heads are doing evrrything they can to cope amd discredit. Ill mever understand why, because this guy is legit. And more importantly, in my meager opinion at least, he is showing massive potential. Each game he is getting better. Even in this season he is showing is improvement. This dude is scary for teams to face and assumkng this level of performance continues, he completely should be MVP. Anyone else who wants to weigh in feel free too, but do your best to not be a troll (except for the memes of course, but good ones at least).

Purdy isn't great *because* of the system and the weapons (though they help). He's great because he's *elevating* the system and those players around him to new heights. He's throwing passes to more areas of the field, forcing defenses to spread themselves thinner. Then his amazing timing and accuracy gives his receivers the best opportunity to add on YAC. Another thing he does so well is simply avoiding the big negative plays or even non-productive plays. He takes would-be sacks and turns them into positive plays, and when he does check the ball down, it still goes for 6-8 yards with a chance to break it for even more. That's rarely mentioned, but it's such a big deal for keeping drives moving and keeping the overall efficiency high. I mean, how do you stop an offense that can threaten 20+ yard chunks on virtually every play, and even when you defend those threats perfectly they probably still pick up 6 yards on the checkdown? But to make all that work, you have to have a QB who can find those receivers and hit those throws.

Tom Brady went through the exact same thing as being called a game manager/system QB especially early in his career. Joe Montans didnt get any respect early in his either and really didnt get serious consideration until he beat Dan Marino in the superbowl. I am certain this is 49ers year and they will only get better next season. Purdy is going to get his share of superbowl rings and he will continue to make doubters look stupid dumb.

On the first play, Wagner just tackling the receiver, is that a penalty? There's contact allowed within 5 yards right, but tackling a receiver?

The reason why Brock Purdy is doubted by the majority talking heads in the major sports media is, because most offensive coordinators have to dumb down their offensive playbooks to accommodate the mobile QB’s strengths, which is running around & trying to make “big plays”, instead of a more consistent, cerebral pocket offense. Running around & throwing bombs on the run looks more appealing on highlight sports shows, than a guy taking a three step drop & carving up a defense from the pocket.

Mobile QBs usually are not good processors and can't really go beyond the 1st read and check down so they are more of a runner instead of processing defences.

Should the Shanahan "system", and it's QB make the big show, we will have witnessed something special in NFL history if not just Niner history anyway. You can't really compare him to Montana just yet, but it's hard not to...... GO NINERS!

😂😂 wrong ... go look up what the oline is rated.
@hollyturner5057
@hollyturner5057 7 ай бұрын
Do you even keep up with 49ers football?? You are totally wrong with that assessment!! The 49ers Oline is ranked in the bottom 10 in pass protection. 49ers Oline pass protection isn't even in the top 20 of the league. Now if Purdy had a actual Oline with a top 5 in the league pass protection then that would just be plain scary for other teams. People can't use the 49ers Oline as a excuse for Purdy's success because of being bottom ranked in the league in pass protection. Purdy is doing what he is doing in the pass game with a less than average pass protection. It is crazy how people that don't even watch the games come up with BS excuses that have zero meaning. It takes about 1 minute to look up on Google where the 49ers Oline ranks in pass protection. Where the 49ers Oline ranks much higher at is in the run protection and that is what makes it much easier for CMC to make run plays.
