I think solar panels can also be placed on top roof of the loco for charging the batteries as an optional charger.

Wow Indian rlys has used a good power saving technique to run the number of E-- Locomotives. Now this kind of special battery operated wacs locos can also be runned in dual mode. But this kind of loco must only be used for shunting.
