When you talk about the "backing vocalist", that is always either Billie herself or Phinneas. She does all her own vocal layering.
@iamlpinthe312

Yes. Absolutely. It’s a production style of layering and harmonies and layering- and Finneas has said that it is for Billie and only Billie. I think that the reason you cannot put it in a genre is because they both have a HUGE range of musical influences. And so they just do what they want without following any specific set of “rules”. Finneas has said that this song has a totally different structure than anything they’ve ever done. And as someone who has sleep paralysis it’s pretty spot on.

Since you asked, you missed Calvin Adrian Parkinson's name in the beginning. He's the British rapper and Billie's friend who lent his vocals for those ad libs.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these videos of yours. They are brilliant and if they were an hour I'd still be as captivated and glued to my chair. Once again, thank you for your awesome videos and all the idiosyncratic sidesteps and stuff that's going on which more or less mirrors my chaotic attention shifts :)

Love all if this, but especially the part where you ask what “style” her music is. I’ve seen sooo many comments/reactions asking that same question so yeah, think it’s just the Billie & Finneas genre! 😉 She has experienced sleep paralysis so those vocals are true. You showed sooo many things that I never noticed so thank you!! I always tell people they can’t listen to her songs without headphones. Finneas uses a ton of random sounds…some that they’ve picked up whenever they’re out & about and hear something interesting. For example, the sound of the drill she recoded at the dentist or the noise the crosswalk in Australia, and so many other sound bites that Finneas turns into magic. He is a musical prodigy imo…truly, is there anything that man can not do!?! As always, great analysis Mike! 😊

There’s such a long future ahead for Finneas it’ll be amazing to see how his compositions continue to develop :) It’s amazing how something so simple like the pedestrian traffic light which we hear every day here in Australia was used for Bad Guy. They’re truly the prodigies of this century

I came for the REN and now I’m binging Billie and Finneas! And I’m already subbed 😆. My husband won’t brave arena shows so I haven’t seen Billie but I’ve seen Finneas twice. He is very much an artist on his own with his own very distinctive style. As a solo artist his stage presence has grown exponentially and he is very comfortable as commander of the room.

Interesting. I haven't heard this before, but thanks to the Måneskin cover this sounded familiar in some ways, although very different at the same time. It has many elements I like, but will need to listen to it without distractions before making up my mind. MCNY is a brilliant format by the way, hope you keep making these! I don't even care what the songs are, just enjoy always learning something new 😄

Speaking of Kayne West. You should definitely check him out. Considering you focus alot on production, you'd love Kayne. I'd recommend his "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" Album, also his "Kids See Ghosts" album, also his "Yeezus" album. All of these have top tier production. He arguably has some of the best production in the music industry. Definitely check him out 👍🏻

Very nicely done totally interesting the only thing missing are the mention of the sounds of Glass Greaking, Staple Gun, and when she says "Bury a friend" You hear a "Shovel full of dirt being tossed" And... i think you mentioned the the Dentist drill as one of the backing sounds This is Beautifully done and edited together Just LOVED it !!!!!

Think of a modern Melanie "I've Got A Pair of Brand New Roller Skates" and "They Paved Paradise and Put Up a Parking Lot,". which is what I call "Story telling music". I feel Billie sings the truth and feelings of our times as seen through her eyes. Music from the 1930 were Happy Days Are Here Again, Puttin' on the Ritz , Ten Cents a Dance by Ruth Etting, and Brother can you Spare a Dime. Every era has it's story telling songs put in a fresh new way by young and new artists! The songs were a story told in song about a moment of time, the emotion, a memory, feeling the feelings you felt at that time. Billie Eilish has always had terrible nightmares. I think dreams (and nightmares), are your mind taking the feelings of the day or week and trying to sort out your leftover thoughts into a story you can sort of understand. The mind wants order and has to take our important and left over unresolved thoughts and try to make sense of them and puts them in a story. Like throwing a mish mash of feelings and thoughts in a bowl and told to make sense of it. That's why dreams and nightmares are important. They're often our mind trying to make sense of things that we haven't worked out or are still in our minds. They can be beautiful and also scary as we know it means something but are not sure what! Dreams and nightmares certainly make you think!

Ok... My limbs are froze and my eyes won't close, speaks to her sleep paralysis, which I have. You can't move at all. Can't scream and my eyes literally won't close. I have to mentally say to myself that I'm not dead or kidnapped or bury. Good analysis.
