Old age is one of life's dark secrets, secrets no one has any interest in finding out about. We have created a society that just concerns itself about the young. Until we change that, we will change nothing. Empowering people is a start, valuing them is the nest step, it will be a long road, but even the longest journey begins with a first step.

I agree social care has gone right down the drain, I worked for social care as a career and I had to leave , we weren't given enough time with each individual person, and we were given so many people to see in just a few hours, and most of these people are very confused and can't be rushed, I used to go home and cry sometimes to see how these people were treated by the social care system, I could go on and on , I am just glad I am not in that job now. O and my name is Judy whitear, just incase any of the office pen pushers are reading this

Alzheimers UK have an amazing site where you can register for voluntary or work positions - as a one to one or even to support the wonderful new choirs that are starting locally to bring people with dementia together - as this will probably affect most of us as we age - it's a really wonderful opportunity to make a difference right now

It's not any better over here in the USA. Everyone has plans for the holidays, but the only company I have is my cat Lilly. If it weren't for her, I don't know what I'd do.

If nobody care for me, i will be the one to give care as long as i can.

The reason the government don't care is they can afford private care when there time comes a quick visit from someone in and out is not enough people need to feel loved or at least that someone actually does care

Just an idea, the two that had to quit,(which I totally understand) maybe the elderly could get a petition signed or maybe you two could visit them at home. It's so sad. I've been watching more on the elderly and loneliness. Maybe have a building where they can meet and talk, crochet, play cards,share stories from their past,etc.

It will not get better if it is 'privatised'. It will probably be worse! (My personal opinion.) It needs a culture shift where older people are treasured, not discarded.

I was the sole carer at home for my wife who had dementia. There was little or no help from local council , all they seamed to want was to take our home away from us. Since she died end of February there has been no help what so ever. It is real lonely even though i have reasonable health , my hobbies and my best friend a little dog and my son who lives a long way away . Funny how people simply disappear after the funeral

Where are their families ?? It is so sad

It's not that politicians are not in touch with what's happening. It's just don't care. Come election time the devil's come out to play. I don't know what else to say. I can only pray. God's protection to you all

People who work within the care system know it's all about a "tick list" Its been getting worse for years. I think loneliness is a real crisis of today.

Some VALID points here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who does check on these people etc etc?????????????????????? if their not in hospital/nursing home....who knows they are cared for or even exist???????????????????????? during the current climate of Cov.19.people mention NHS all the time also nursing and care homes "Never" are those who care and are cared for in "Private" homes are mentioned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes.......its not just the old in this position, young people are cared for etc to....children look after their parent/s who need looking after etc...

So sad what is happening in the UK🇬🇧

Its hard to care for someone. Social careers to experience and want to be in and out in minutes. Social sevice are useless.

I thank God for the many many african families who leave with their aging parents/families til the end the take care of them wash them feed etc

Age UK is excellent. We must all do so much more to give companionship and activity to older people and others who are alone. I cared full time for my mother with dementia, having to give up my good job, lovely countryside home and partner of twenty years but it was the greatest thing I ever did and would do it all again. The Council provided nothing. They had websites and leaflets full of wokery and waffle and lists of sources of help, all of whom simply had websites and leaflets referring you to each other - who did nothing. Private carers were varied individuals, some wonderful and some a disgrace. Despite persistent pleas, we never had any continuity. 14 different individuals sent in two weeks. I’d hired them to help so that I could pop out or do paper work while they chatted to my mam or did some light cleaning. Because they were always new and low calibre, more time was spent on giving introductory info than was spent on anything useful. None of them seemed to stay the allotted time. Imagine what it’s like when there’s no caring, overseeing relative. One said she’d heated a meal in the microwave for my mam. We had no microwave.

This is going to sound horrible, but we try way too hard to make people live longer, when their "extended" lives are horrible. We are supposed to die - nobody wants to believe that, but we all die. Extending lives as we do only ruins the lives of their younger caregivers, who should be enjoying their own lives. Absolutely no-one in this video is happy.

Noone cares for the young either. It's not just the older generation. The systems a total mess. People who most in need get very little help or non at all. The most vulnerable people die or suffer alone. I've learnt that the more you lie about your currumstances and shout your gob off the more help you get sadly,
