I figured out something. since we could genetic modify humans to have wings, and make it impossible for us to fly cuz of our weight. Lets just fly in mars since there is less gravity. in comparison 100kg in earth is just 38kg in mars, as well as what elon musk said, it is possible for us to live in Mars. Do you agree?

So does this mean that if we managed to create artificial wings (probably using the steel-like graphene material made by MIT themselves) with a span good enough to balance the human body weight, we could actually fly ? Also, if a person weighs 60kg, does an 8m wingspan suffice ? (if compared to the albatross example)

Yep, that should be more than enough. Of course the wings and battery will add a lot of weight as well, so you'll be maybe 90-100kg total. But according to my bird rating scale (wingspan squared divided by weight, using units of centimeters and grams, which gives a rough estimate of wing area to weight ratio), 800cm span with 100kg weight still gives you a bird rating of 6.4. Harpy eagles are one of the largest flying birds, and are somewhere in that area as well. But they can carry their their weight in prey, meaning that they can still fly with a rating well below 4 (though I doubt they can take off from level ground with such a load). Mute swans have a rating of about 5, but they need a good running start to take off. Most birds rate 10 and above, which gives them excellent maneuverability and near-vertical takeoff abilities, well beyond the minimum requirements to get off the ground. Crows have enormous wing area for their weight, around 18 on the bird rating scale. Really it's just a matter of engineering the control system and the articulated wings. I'm fairly sure it can be done with present day materials. Battery life will be somewhat limited, but that will almost certainly be improved in the next few years. Power requirements will probably be around 9kW takeoff and 3kW cruising.

It would be pretty hard to fly with a pair of wings on your back. You'd probably be pretty top-heavy, or your arms would probably have to be disproportionately weak so they're not a lot of dead weight. You'd also probably have to be stretched taller, and have a massive membranous webbing going from your wings' fingers down to your toes, so clothing would be kinda difficult. I wonder how that would all be on your spine and knees, unless the wings r so long you use em like crutches.

On a short notice, we would need to eat less than he made it seem, because smaller animals like bats have a way higher metabolic rate. Small Mice also eat approximatly double their bodyweight and do not fly. The bigger the animal, the less it has to eat compared to its bodysize because bigger animals have less surface to lose energy over compared to their volume.

You could theoretically fly with artificial wings provided the wings had a small motor to add the extra strength and energy. If you could mount a motor that's light and powerful enough on a wingsuit, you could take flight that way. A wingsuit is a type of jumpsuit with extra fabric between torso and arms as well as between the legs. There would also be the bouyancy option, though for that you'd need around a kiloliter (cubic meter) per kilogram of your mass in order to fly. Now, this doesn't include the mass of the balloon or balloons, string, and harness system, plus parachute. If your mass is 75 kilos for example, you would need 75.5 or more cubic meters of helium, depending on the mass of the equipment. There's two worlds on which human powered flight would be possible - Venus and Titan, particularly the latter due to low gravity and high atmospheric density.

So in short, we can. Just as the video said, we are just light enough so we can still generate enough power to lift ourselves through Earth lower atmosphere (even in situations where the lift + vertical component of thurst to total power rate isn't much higher than 1), but heavy enough so no actual natural tissues and their anatomical shapes would allow for such a thing (or at least according to animals still alive today). Fortunately, we are leaning more for the "light side" than the "heavy side", so by looking into light materials and clever constructions we were able do take to the skies! ... Well, not fly freely and fast but still fly nonetheless. Thanks MIT for this amazing video.

@@Thanatip2004BMZ with magnets they can be really poweful and can push away there own mass and more to float above ground so yeah they would be able to push a human in the air or a car and fly . To the calibration of the magnetic suit or in a car . it would be powered to take electric from the air like teslas wirless invetion to make it stronger . The magnets and the conflict of the wire and magnets touching to not disrupt each magnet will be kept with my design as each magnet would need to be set in one direction aiming out with the suit and that format and how to prevent that from happening i will need to keep to my self sorry. but the theory is sound if we take into concideration of the magnetic pull of the earth and if we do it on a small scale which it works and is sound then creating a magnetic bubble on a bigger scale where one would be within the suit would allow us to float with a 365 degree set calibration using magnetic force, a constant calibration is only there to allow us to move in each direction but a computer program would need to be constantly running and calibrating the power taken from the sky on each section of the suit in a pattern it would need to be directed into the magnets in certain grids of the suit and the magnetic pull of the earth from every direction . but taking the power from the sky and using this method would create a 3 point of orgin polarisation as what i would call it to keep us in the air and so on i think i covered the questions plus abit more of how it will work

I had a dream last night, that there was an attraction in town. Where you go and you wear a set of Styrofoam wings like a rucksack, but they literally make you glide. You jump off a tower, and you just glide across the city. The propulsion was a firework doesn’t explode. It took me longer than I care to admit that my subconscious was ripping off Minecraft. But just made the experience all the more hilarious. I asked the guy who was renting out these wings “how much would it cost in order to buy them flat out?“ He said he’d sell them to me for £1000. For near effortless flight. I asked if I could borrow the wings for half an hour so I could fly home and get the money. But I woke up before I could get there.

Actually we can if you've mastered how our body works, how the cells work, how our minds work, how molecules work, how small particles work, how atom works, how our neurons in our body works, how electrons in our body works, how we can breathe smoothly, etc., and more and more and more!! it depends on you just do it discover it for yourself... We can't do it because we're not taught to do it... Our body can produce electricity and I've seen people who have these kind of abilities. they usually used it for healing.. but still they're still at the lowest level of our Human potential but they're higher than us coz most of us still don't knoe how to do it.. that's why currently I'm trying to teach my self and I can say that We humans really have the potential..

Ok, small wings wouldn't work. But what about REALLY large artificial wings with some sort of assistance- artificial "muscles"- that would do the bulk of motion with human arms only really responsible for controlling the flight. We have ultra-light and strong materials like carbon fibre composites and graphene and I imagine that many rich people would pay quite the premium to be able to fly like birds and over time the costs would dwindle.

@Pink Diamond, bigger, longer wings add more weight which requires more even longer wings. Which adds more weight. Remember this ratio. Lift and thrust must overcome weight and drag for anything to achieve flight.

There should not be a doubt, ---humans can fly. As a living species we are not designed to fly, but we have an amazing brain and I am actually surprised, that we are still not able to generate a design to make lift off and fly using only human power. The past have shown that Quetzalcoatlus with wingspan up to 36 feet (10.9m). body mass of 200-260 kg. and the largest known flying animal to have ever lived.

Of course wings are possible .... But with wings there are some things need to be modified too... As a weight of bones or make bones hollow like birds have but still solid it would bring our weight between 45-55 kg cuz bones take about 15 -20 percent of your bodymass... we can simply add wings on back of human but here comes second thing ant that is MUSCLE STRENGH we need to increase basic muscle power of human at least 5-10 times wings will need to be at least 6-8-10 meeters long But its normal if you compare bird without tail and wings the wings are about 1.5 shape or more of bird

SO YEAH its posibble but the hardest thing is to find genomes that controll the growth and other options that makes us look like we are now. Because one genom controls many other functions and options in our body. And YES human wings will be new wings they will not be similar to bird wings because they will be on back and they will be 5-7 centimeeters under shoulder blade....but genetics research and engineering now works on learning that ''language'' of genoms........ I think we can..our bodies are geared for terrestrial physical properties that are bound by mother nature's laws...if we can alternate within ourselfs with our mind and spirit..we might be able to to change certain properties that hold our physically bodies in check that hold us down...if one can achieve this...then they'll be able to see perhaps more then nature will allow also......just a thought.........
