I disagree, the purpose of this discussion is to allie their opinions and fan base for their gains and security. The appropriate type of discussion would include discussion or perspectives that are separate from religious beliefs. I for example Im agnostic, but believe blind faith is not only irresponsible, but highly dangerous because it leads to ignorance that can be exploited through manipulation. Questioning everything, but keeping an open mind, while trusting your science and experience should be valued just as much as passed down wisdom. The average human life expectancy is around 70 years, the first 15 are spent in childhood and early adolescence. Twenty years are spent in bed; and in the last five, physical limitations start to limit our activities. That gives us about 30 years in which we live as adults. We also, must take time out for eating, working, travel distance, and watching entertainment. We often seem to think,"Theres not enough time in the day". And time is collapsing on us. Every day there is 86,400 seconds in a day, 168 hours in a week, and 1,440 minuets a day and that bank of time that opens and closes will come to a close one day. And 155,000 people die a day, 60 million every year, and 6,300 every hour. You sleep a third of your life and we all have an appoinment with death to keep. The bible says,"The wages of sin is death". And it also says,"The soul that sins shall die." And God is holy and perfect so he must punish every sin. The bible says,"Be sure your sins will find you out". And they will find you out on the judgement day every single secret thing that you have done and are embarrased about God will bring into judgement. But the good news is that Jesus Christ gave his life in exchange for yours on the cross, and he took the punishment you and I deserve on the cross. But you must repent and trust in him fully. Believing in God is not enough, the bible says," Even the demons believe there is one God good for you, and they tremble." And you must make a deciscion because if you don't make a decision, time will make a deciscion for you. No decision is a deciscion in itself. And you cannot be nuetral Jesus does not allow for it Jesus said,"No man can serve two masters. For you will hate the one and love the other; or you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money". The spirit of God is speaking to you and God loves you. He can give you more peace and joy than any other relationship, amount of money, or drug can give you.

I wasn’t raised religious but have always found myself coming back to God and wanting to believe. I do believe there is a God but I didn’t have the guidance/gift of a faith passed down to me from my parents. I like to think of it as a necessary condition for us to actually learn while on earth. If God presented himself to us we would merely be obeying out of fear, hence the comparison to authoritarianism at the beginning. I also think of our existence as something too complex to understand. Even with biblical teachings. I like to use the following analogy - when a small child is told to eat their vegetables or go to bed with an empty stomach (or shown some other act of ‘tough love’) they do not understand why. But their is wisdom in it beyond their comprehension. That’s my take anyway. It’s arrogant to think you can fully understand our existence and why things are the way they are - God’s plan. There will always be elements of confusion as we are mere human beings.

The Bible says that first, he can't show himself, because he's too holy and we would have to die instantly since we're siners. Second is that he sent many people to the humans and his son and people don't believe him. So clearly they don't believe because the don't want to. It's like garden Eden. Adam and Eva saw god, but they chose not to believe him fully. Believing in God is more than just accepting that he exists. It's a radical choice that you give him your entire live. You can't believe in him without trusting him.

@@smith6907 Your argument is not sound in logic. Does it follow that if something does not currently exist in the physical realm or is not yet known/revealed to humankind, it does not exist or will never be discovered with the passage of time and scientific inquiry? Maybe or maybe not. Many prominent scientists and scholars continue to believe in the possible existence of physical things yet discovered on this planet and in the universe without evidence. Perhaps you'd consider investing time in identifying your definition of what or who God is, then coherently formulating an argument by disproving that God exists, or create your own intellectual "word salad", instead of disparaging the views and beliefs of others.
@tirionpendragon
@tirionpendragon Жыл бұрын
@@smith6907 the weird thing is that everything points to God. Each instant of your life, when you breath, if you think how this is a miracle, everything around you, the possibility of existence over the impossibility of nothing, the harmonious design of reality, the Laws of nature under everything obeys, saying "there is no evidence to God" looks like a sloth conclusion to not have to confront ourself with the reality, with this conclusion you feel more legitimate to fuck up your life as much as you want without feeling responsible for that. In the truth the Lord is merciful, His name is Holy and above everything else, you can walk to search Him and find Him if you want, or you can live in the lie built on yourself, that brings non-sense, nothing and nihilism in your life, waiting for a death that will decide ultimately that your life was miserable and without a purpose. I think this is the truth every heart knows inside. The thing is that the path to holyness requires the pure human fatigue to take our cross and walk in love and life and faith. But everyone can walk with the Lord and take his own cross, because you are strengthen in the Lord himself, that's the faith that moves the mountains, you too can and if you are under this video means that you are in some way searching for the truth. So may God bless you and the truth be revealed to you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

@@nathanenns7186 Amen! Sometimes when praying I've felt a nudge in conscience or had an image appear in my mind of something, but those are very rare. What's FAR more frequent is I pray for guidence and then go to scripture and sometimes the very first thing I open to is exactly what I was looking for, or sometimes within a few days. Let alone our pastor's sermons. He plans them a year in advance but multiple times his sermons address something in our lives, very specific, that we had been discussing as early as the night before if not that very morning. He said he hears that a lot and is pretty used to it haha. He's been a witness to multiple miracles himself and I believe him. Little things like giving away his car to help a family and the next day someone unprompted and otherwise unaware offers him a van they had lying around for the youth ministry. Then later in the same van a distracted driver in a moving truck hit him head on, with the old style single waist seatbelt he was thrown into the back seat and suffered only rug burns. He was diagnosed with a terminal disease but continued his ministry anyhow and somehow was healed. These are only a handful. Part of the problem is people expecting God to work in a way THEY think he should. In fact it seems to be almost the number one problem. People need to be willing to submit to God and his way. It's not about you.

It was alluded to in the video and I would concur that it is something akin to how parents are overly controlling with the children at a very young age but then, by necessity for the child's development, step back and allow them to follow their path. There comes a point whereby children are able to learn from the experiences with the guidance but cricially free from the explicit direction of their parents. In this way distance can be said to afford freedom.

This is such an interesting discussion on so many levels. And mainly because if you scratch the surface of this discussion what you find is a lack of foundation and substance, and zero insight. Rather, this is a discussion basically showing off egos. Consider the following. All the men here are intelligent, educated, polite and articulate. That is to be welcomed in today’s times of public debate, especially on social media, but that doesn’t change the arguments themselves. And all then are attempting to present some insights on existentialist topics, and most of all on God. None of them have then spoken the truth, that God is unknowable. Or it is not possible for the human mind to begin to know the depths of God, because of what God is. And so the discussion is now ended. But rather here, all want to hedge their bets. Or show off. That it might be possible to know something of God, or know of God, or in someway be able to pretend with our long sleeves in place, that we really know God by arguing this or that… So here then is such a ‘round table’ discussion titled as "Why Can't We See God?". By educated, middle aged, western and white men. And talking about one aspect of the most important and profound topic in existence. And where intellectual showing off is literally de rigueur! So first the question is asked, where are all the others who can offer input? For example, where are all the women? Now no woman may have been invited to offer their perspective. But not even these mens’ mothers? For surely as humans, we would consider all that creates us to be greater. And even common sensibility would suggest, to an intelligent, well brought up man from a stable and loving family, that he would honour his mother as the more wise, and the more insightful. So if she is still alive, where is she, when insight is needed? And particularly since she, or any mother, was the first person who ever gave them the experience of Love. And when what we see in the Judaeo-Christian religions represented around that table, is constructed on the idea that Love is important. Christianity’s name for God is actually Love. Because God or Love was the Creator, “that which is greater than thou.” And yet not one ‘gentleman’ here offers any insight from any mother or any woman even by way of apology. This is all about them, in a white man's cave, where they pretend at being gnostics. And the gullible audience, who wants to believe too in these men being gnostics, acknowledges this completely. Both in their gullibility, their fanning and their hero-worship as seen in the comments section around this one. Then too, where are all the inputs from other religions or backgrounds, beyond Judaeo-Christian? Don’t they count? This is a discussion on God, for God’s sake! (To quote the rather plaintive and egotistical Peterson, who attacks people on their arguments) Each person here spoke personally from that specific religious standpoint. All were in agreement with each other, thereby generating a very exclusionary debate. But how can God not be discussed from a universal perspective, and especially if the universal perspective is deemed central to everything? And then again, speaking of universality, where were the atheists to comment? It is well known that there is equal intelligence and articulation amongst the theists, the agnostics, and the atheists. So why are they not being offered input into the round table discussion? How about black people? This is interestingly an all-white crowd arguing earnestly on something of universal application. No blacks capable of such lofty ideas? But rather instead all right wing jews and pro-authoritarian whites? Interesting… Then what impact does that have on the direction of a discussion on matters truthful, and in terms of matters truthful? Each person around the table made comments of seeming substance and logic. I enjoyed it. Peterson of course commandeered matters with his plaintive crowing again, and acted as the fashionista model for the egos being paraded here, all in the name of intelligence. It doesn't matter, he was entertaining, and there's always one of them in the crowd. I am not a woke person. I am also not an atheist. I am equally intelligent to, and equally articulate as, any of these men. So I am also probably equally egotistical and deluded. But further, I am actually common sensical. And what I saw, with my own eyes, was very unimpressive and designed only for self-affirmation or preaching and not education. For this was not debate, or even substantial philosophic discussion. This was simply public parading and crowing a similar mindset. So in essence it was a set of charades on a preconceived theme. And using intellectual discourse about how one can be such a gnostic in a circular argument to reinforce the same mindset. So this was just the trick of simple supportive psychotherapy all around, but when these people did not need this, because ultimately nothing was forwarded. However, the viewers bought it. Because, to poor innocent them, this must be the truth, because these polite, well intentioned and intelligent men all said it is. But is it the lived experience of humanity? I don’t think so. I think you can shoot holes throughout what was said. Consider the underlying premise of this ‘erudite’ discussion. These men all came to the table with the clear recognition that they were believers in a Judaeo-Christian God. Then they attempted in an educated but very exclusionary way to use logic and psychology to convince the audience that theirs was the correct insight as to why you cannot see a God which exists. Their conclusion: God exists, and so God can be known in someway. So there was an already preconceived position. And then there was a supposed exploration of that position as being left open to be tested. But only tested by arguments and insights that supported that position. And so the position was confirmed. How neat? Their words though sounded like words of substance and insight. But was their message truthful or even logical by being full and all-encompassing? And was this truly a ‘round table’ discussion when so many people 'in the round' were just not there? Or was it akin to a lie by being hollow, and full of empty words? And then, just the aeronautical and intellectual gymnastics of a group of white, educated judaeo-christian, middle aged men with big egos and big bank accounts to boot, all with histories of self-promotion and of being immersed in value judgements of others, as each of the records of these opinion-makers/talking heads show? Another simple fact should also be appreciated. It is that anything can actually be argued for, depending upon the assumptions upon which you are making your argument. God in fact designed this as a useful invisible cloak for himself. For me, this video is a clever but hollow discussion, with no solid foundation. It is an intellectual exercise of no real merit, and by a bunch of guys pandering to their egos and affirming each other. They speak because they can. It is sometimes though said that, “all great thinking ends in a sigh.” In this case I would suggest, “all great thinking ends in a groan.” No foundation for God’s existence has ever been lain. And why? Because God both exists and doesn’t exist in this universe. It is as simple as that. And it is allowed for by this universe of paradoxes that this God created. Somewhat like the quantum mechanical law that posits that a particle is in all places at the same time before it is observed. Because it is not a particle then, it is a wave-particle in property. And so must be treated on probability not exactitude. And that’s why God is unknowable in this current state. And where the discussion would end, unless other agendas crowd in. And it is also why you have to find meaning through your own actions, not simply your words and your logic. I don’t disagree with what was said. I actually quite liked it all. But it was not the whole truth by any means, nor even half the truth, for there is so much more.

If god literally flew across the sky and said to all "i am real" then faith no longer exists. Seeing and knowing god exists doesn't mean that god will speak to you or anyone else. Dieties are supposed to given us free will. I could see and know that you, reading this, exists. but that doesn't change the way i live my life. The question then comes down to: If we could see god, and in doing that would change the way you lived your life. Why are you living your life the way you are now then? If physical evidence for or against the existance of god changed the way you live, then thats a problem with you and not god

As an atheiest, the problem I see with faith is that it is unquestioning and in this case, it places it's belief in something that was widely accepted as truth over 2 milleniums ago, but much of our progress and understanding of the world and of the universe since then was obtained by observing the physical world. Don't get me wrong, having faith in god is a lifeline for many people and I have adopted some level of respect for religion in this sense, but I do not see how blind faith of something which we cannot verify the existence of is going to help us moving forward.

What is the problem with faith and free will no longer exist? If God is real, benevolent and sin is actually bad what is the point of having free will to sin? Why do you think the faith will no longer exist if Sinai miracle, miracles of the profits have never produced such an effect?

@@ryantowell scientific discoveries don't disprove the Bible. Blind faith is wrong, God is inviting us to do the opposite: Isa 1:18: "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." 1Ths 5:21: "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." Religions (fake in my opinion) are not the same with having faith from proving things from the Bible and seeing the harmony between science and the Bible. Newton inspired himself from the Bible and was a faithful man. Check out Photo drama of creation (film) or Studies in the Scriptures by Charles Taze Russell. See if it makes sense purely by the proofs in there, not previous believes.

@@starlite5097 If you are not a religious man, then do you see the Bible as a story which provides valuable lessons regardless of your interpretation of god? Referring to the bible as a tool to inspire positive meaning in one's life is something that I can get behind. I am by no means objected to faith, but I am baffled by the logic behind it when faced with what we truly know to be real. If god encourages freedom of thought instead of choosing blind faith, and the general consensus is that we can only ascertain truth by looking at what exists physically rather than metaphysically then wouldn't this ideal collapse upon itself?
@SuperLifestream
@SuperLifestream Жыл бұрын
@Ryan Towell there is nothing wrong with it until the interpretation starts to harm others or get in their way of freedoms. Unfortunately that is happening today in many countires. Coutires that are both very religious and those that claim to have church and state separate. But that is a different topic to what is being discussed here

I have a short story to tell. I'm an agnostic. I was never raised in a Faith and I've never set foot in a church. After listening to people like Jordan Peterson, Russel Brand, and other people about Religion (Particularly Christianity) I grew interested over time. Not long ago I decided to "Pray". I've never prayed in my life, so I just kinda winged it. I gave the typical "Show me a sign" type prayer. I wanted God to show me he's there. I didn't expect much. A Few days after that, I was eating at my kitchen table watching something on my phone when I noticed something in the corner of my eye. It was a stamped piece of metal with a print of a Dragonfly on it and it said in cursive "I am always with you.". I still have it and will probably never get rid of it. Could this have been something from God himself? Maybe. I want it to be. I think my life would drastically change for the better if God without a doubt, for certain revealed himself. Again could it have been him? I'm open to the possibility but I don't really believe so. Maybe I need a little more persuading. The only thing that could really convince me is a Jesus level miracle. Like walking on water level. Or even a burning bush moment. I just don't know what to make of the whole thing.

In the Vedas (the most authoritative scriptures on spiritual understanding) it is explains that we cannot see God for the simple reason that God is the highest spiritual being, with a spiritual body. At the present moment our eyes are in the mode of material vision ( we are suffering from material cataract) and so we cannot see that which is spiritual. Until we purified our eyes-vision (go through a cataract-surgery ) we cannot see or understand God. And what is that cataract surgery? The development of love for God. And how do we achieve that love for God? By going through the process of self-realization, which involves different steps, first of all being LISTENING intensely and sincerely to those that they have reached the level of pure love, or to receive the level of spiritual knowledge intimately related to God. Intellectual speculations will not do by itself. But if that intellectual speculation lead us to the point of accepting a high spiritual authority, then it's all good.

As someone exploring their beliefs right now, are we not going to just end up in Gods kingdom anyways? (Just assume you are for a moment. Assume you hit the criteria required to be saved.) So if it's "authoritarian" eventually than what is the point of the freedom now? Aside from of course the things that are most obvious: Like needing to weed out those who are undeserving of God's love or something along those lines, would it not be better to just save us all? If God loves all of us, why not save all you can? That's the idea of heroism that we as humans truly appreciate, why do we need to go through this kind of thing? I am also of the understanding that we are living in sin because of the actions of a single woman and a single man. Why do we, generations later, who have almost no connection at all to the original have to suffer for their sin? Jesus died on the cross for our sin as well, the ones that I guess we have committed from birth (depending on who you ask) but why was that not the moment of the end? Why allow it to not only continue before his death and resurrection but also beyond and into today? And so at some point, the end time will come. And some will have yet to be born and some who are born who are yet to sin. Are these people saved? (Depending on who you ask) no and some yes. So why even allow it to continue to that point? Why let humanity continue to suffer through sin after the birth, death, and resurrection and then ultimately the return. Even after the return, will we just end? Or will life continue here while those who have abstained from dis-faithful behavior experience the kingdom of God. Maybe these questions have simpler answers, and maybe someone will comment here about them. I guess really I am asking us all to ask these questions rather than find an internet answer. I am still trying to find my way to what is right and these are just some things I have debated in my own faith.

First no, not everyone is going to heaven anyway. The Bible says it clearly, you can only get there through jesus. Why not save everyone. Jesus gives everyone the opportunity to get saved. All he wants is leadership over your live. You might say that isn't freedom, and you're right. But like the Bible says, you're always a slave. You can be the slave of this world and satan, chasing for things that don't help you or you can be the slave of Jesus, who gave everything for you and still give. It's your choice. God don't want to force you. He is offering the rescue from the sins the human has chose. All he wants is you live. But it was his all along. About the young children, the Bible says that god takes them to him. So yes, they get rescued.
