Why cheap freeskates suck... and how to fix them. It's a shame that the $30 Amazon skates are stiff, difficult to ride, and overall low quality... But there are some ways to improve them, ultimately giving you a better freeskating experience.

Admittedly, I should’ve included more specific reasons of why the skates aren’t so great! In short, the stiffness and difficulty of pumping is my #1 issue with them, and replacing the wheels and bearings really goes a long way 😁

Hey Gabe thanks so much for sharing the great idea of putting board blazers in the truck of JMKs! I freeskate mostly at night on streets with few lights so I wanted to light up my JMKs to be more visible to cars and walkers. I just had to slightly trim the board blazer adhesive pad and it fit right in. After I added your transparent wheels, now I have an awesome nighttime setup!

Cheap skates?!? I've had my OG Freelines since 2011. I wouldn't call that cheap.

In Poland they cost $160, they are not available on amazon or other stores, you can buy them only in your official store. For this price you can buy a good class skateboard or decent roller skates. For such a small toy the price too exorbitant, which translates into popularity and availability. Focus on lowering the price, not stretched marketing.

My cheap amazon skates lasted half a year, before I passed them on to my friend, If it weren't for those cheap skates I might not have invested in better skates. If it weren't for those cheap skates my friend wouldn't have learned to skate. Just upgrading the wheels and bearings makes them highly viable until the metal finally bends or snaps. Beginners don't need to worry about that for months. They don't even have the leg strength to do tricks they just ride. It's the perfect gateway skate. And it's probably helping you guys make more money.

completely agree. Never would have gotten into it with the cost of nice freeskates, but after 30+ hours on the cheap ones from aliexpress I dove in with the bundle from JMK. Most JMK vids are great but Im not a fan of this one.

The fact that you work for or at least get yours for free is why your saying that. They really aren't that bad. The wheels are the same as the "classic" wheels that JMK sells. As you said, you can buy the performance wheels for $38 from JMK. Which is still a hell of a lot cheaper. As for them bending. I guess it's possible but at 260lbs, it hasn't happened to me. That being said, I'm not doing any tricks. As for the bearings, I'm not sure what you're talking about. They come with ABEC 7's. That is the same rating as JMK. Let's face it, these companies are showing us just how much JMK likes to gauge people. The price should at least be under the $100 mark.

Price gouging has been insane since the pandemic. They need to tighten the laws. Eggs are about to go up in price again because a few factory farms got bird flu. So most other egg companies will jack up prices weather affected or not. Small local egg companies will stick to their prices. It's just excuse after excuse to get record breaking profits for the owners and ceo's.

JMK skates are currently unavailable on Amazon in the UK... Amazon is presenting many non JMK free skates. You are missing out on sales in the UK

They're really not that bad. The only difference I notice is that it takes more energy to pump.

Indeed, I'm dealing with that everytime I skate, specially here in Philippines we don't have a good roads so pumping is really difficult and it consumes so much energy to pump since the bearings is not really good either.

If only jmk skates were cheaper. Planing to buy the cheap one to start off if i can ride them. Ajd if i can ride the freeskates i'll try i buy the branded ones

I've got cheap freelines, BUT - the wheels there's already good -it's rounded as jmk, not flat like on your video. Now I started to training - it fun and hard ))

Hey guys! Can you help me? I can´t find any of your products on Amazon. How can I get your free skates, or at least some wheels living in Mexico? I bought a couple of models on Amazon. But they both have this kind of wheels that suck. I´d like to upgrade them.

Thank you for this I recently bought a pair of cheap free skates and the wheels SUCK they are super flat so I bought a pair of jmk wheels

I agree that they really suck. They're not impossible to use, but pumping is a constant effort with them because they're a lot more stiff and they'll stop rolling shortly after you stop pumping if you're on flat land. Also, those lights look fun to use. For your next video you could go over the freeskate festival/competition in China; explain the difference between street, park and flatland skating; and include clips for each.

using the cheap ones works just fine to get into it. I've put 30+ hours into my cheap ones and am just now upgrading

Honestly the quality is disappointing and doesn’t hold up. For people buying their first set I just say go with JMKs from the start since it 1. makes the learning way easier 2. Is more fun 3. Will last you a LONG time haha. Hope that helps you!

These skates are much lower to the ground and the square wheels make it harder to work with that. Also if youve riden these much theres a chance jmk wheela wont fit from my experience. I found putting small inline wheels is the best way to enjoy these and its truly a unique and fun freeskating experience which i highly reccomend trying. Much different than proformance wheels. That being said jmks are built much better and having each part sold indivually makes it truly superior but I still love riding these knock off skates with inline wheels.

Are these skates the ones where the wheels have LEDs in them? I just bought them and are super disappointed, i can't even pump, it just goes straight. Not sure where is the issue, most likely with me being a beginner, but im not sure if i can learn from a horrible set of wheels

The video is called "Why Cheap Freeskates Suck". And assuming: "Buy new wheels from JMK (I don't know why, they are just better). Buy new bearings from JMK (I don't like the ones included). Buy JMK freeskates (they're better, I recommend)." Dude. I came here to watch if I bought a complete sh*t or an ok option for beginners. I understand JMK make nice ones and they are probably the best in the world right now, but damn. I did not come here to watch an advertisement.

I do work for JMK, so there is definitely a bias at play and my advice should be taken with that in consideration. Although, it doesn’t really change my opinion as this is what I first did before becoming affiliated in any way. The whole premise of the video is - If you happen to have some cheap skates, here’s what I did to improve my skates in the past, without needing to buy a whole new set. I love JMK skates to this day, they’re good for a reason and I won’t stop saying good things about them on my own platform ✌️

Appreciate the concern! Honestly we’ll probably even make a video about it on JMK’s channel, since a lot of people are curious. Not to bash but more to lay out the differences, and put them head to head in different sorts of tests. Could be a fun vid 🤷‍♂️
