Why Chinese

Күн бұрын

Do you know Chinese use 45 billion pairs of chopsticks a year? Why do Chinese eat with chopsticks rather than fork and hands? Today, let’s find it out.
- Obviously, you can use chopsticks to pick up nearly everything.
- Chopsticks are not just simply utensils, they demonstrate elements of Chinese philosophy, notably the yin-yang theory binary.
- Chopsticks are actually a wedding gift.
- Chopsticks reflect the communal nature of eating food.
- Chopsticks also reflect courtesy and caring.

I am married to a Vietnamese and in my travelling in a number of countries in Asia I have been in situations (not Chinese) where the chopsticks are reversed to pick something from a shared dish and convey it to your personal bowl. The reason given for this was to avoid poking the end of the sticks which have been in your mouth into a shared dish, similar to not using the spoon you have been eating with to ladle desert or soup from the serving bowl. I'm not saying that one is right and one is wrong, just making an observation.

Why I use chopsticks? Makes me feel culturally educated. And honestly, Chinese food tastes better with chopsticks. Moroccan food tastes better with bare hands. Filipino food tastes better with a spoon. American food ( if it exists) tastes better with a fork. Still, I have to master chopsticks with soup or pizza.

@@whiteguar6757 exactly, I observed that most of them (Malaysian Chinese, try not to be generalised to all) will wash hands before eating roti canai (similar to paratha bread) but still using spoon n fork, even though roti canai is commonly eaten using bare hands (especially among the Indian, whose some says has invented it). So, I am wondering if there are historical/cultural/religion reasonings that caused them to avoid touching foods with bare hands.

I personally find all the yin- yang logic to be unecessary stories added later on. Square ends make them easy to hold and pointed tips make them easy to pick up smaller sized things. Any utensil in this world has been developed for practical purposes.
@liuzhou
@liuzhou 2 жыл бұрын
Chinese chopsticks tend to have blunter tips. Japanese are more pointed. Also, most chopsticks do not have square ends. And you are wrong about unnecessary stories.

Even I don't understand. I curently live in Singapore and there are many different grips, shapes and what-not. There are no such rules at all. Even the grip styles have changed over ages so all the added significance of yin-yang is quite unnecessary.

It has nothing to do with tofu. That is only an example dish. It is impolite to pick through the food like that looking for the best bit. That's all.

你好! 谢谢你介绍筷子有关!.... 其实到现在对这个话题我很好奇!.... I was just recently wondering, what's may be the reason for Chinese people preferring (们们就其实多久发明筷子筷子! 🤔) chop sticks to fork? As I supposed, it was also determined by the mainly agricolture oriented lifestyle and row-materials provided!... 但是你将的故事很丰富有趣的! 拜!😊 请问: but also of knife and spoon CHINESE people always along their History have been making use, haven't they?

The Indians are more forward thinking people because they eat with their hands. The food are wrapped in banana leaves and after finishing the meal, they simply dump whatever on the table and wash their hands. See, that save all the troubles washing dishes, forks and spoons. Clever, isn't it?

Chopsticks have been around for about 5,000 years and that they were first used in China. Around 500 A.D. the use of chopsticks spread from China to the areas now known as Japan, and Korea.

Chopsticks are representative of Chinese culture. Whenever and wherever Chinese people are they find it difficult to have a meal without chopsticks. In addition, chopsticks can be presented as a gift or function as a unique handcraft for people to distribute and express their feelings. Global Presence: According to the statistics, over 1.8 billion people use chopsticks. Chopstick culture has great significance around the world having become a common cultural marker of “the circle of Chinese food culture” which includes many other Asian countries, such as “Chopsticks Day” in Japan, “Golden Chopsticks Award” in France and the trend of “for your health, please pick up your chopsticks” in western countries.

Please add more meanings.. will be coo l筷子长七寸六分,代表人的七情六欲,七情指的是喜怒哀思悲恐忧。
