All these people saying it's boring, there's no point in saying that. Different people would enjoy different stuff. Every job is boring to some and enjoyable to others

+Muffin Man That's very true. Different people have different talents and proclivities thus one career may be boring to one person and a huge turn on to another. In that light accounting is boring to those who do not have the love of it.

I am 59 years old and have so much gratitude I completed my professional designation in Accounting. I must have been fired 6 times while articling the whole environment was unstable with busy until the summer then no work in the fall and many nasty employers unable to keep their employees working year round. However that designation gives me so much credibility in society and I keep learning new things all the time. I am self employed and so glad I am. I would encourage anybody interested in accounting to go for it.

Accounting is good because it is a solid major that allows you to branch into a variety of business avenues. At the same time, if you have a decent amount of debt and do not want student loans looming over your head you have a solid degree that can pay the bills in a tough economy.

Most accountants do not work in those sort of environments and also do not earn that sort of money. Average qualified is about £40K if you exclude London, 60K with London, but most people in The City tend to be management consultants or similar profession and they skew the average salaries. A good profession but not as lucrative as many seem to think. For those where it is all about the money investment banking is what those chaps need. Your basic bonus will be more than 5 years of my salary.

So far I like how the General Manager, GAO described how even if you do not get an accounting job at least you have the basic skills to apply to get another job. And I greatly enjoy the various descriptions of accounting job positions you can get into and earn. Thank you for posting. :)

If you're naturally decent with figures (don't have to be the best but can achieve a good grade at high school) it's a good career to get into. I work for a pretty big bank and worked in the UK then got the opportunity to move abroad. I make good money and the job is alright. It's not what I dreamed of but I wanted to be a football player, didn't manage so this will do! I get to live a good, comfortable life with a job I don't hate and I get good family time at the weekends. Plus you can go as high as you want with a bit of effort. Finally, you can do self employed work on the side or set up your own business.

Every work on earth involves people interaction. For some, you interact with partners or suppliers. However, they are just as complicated and problematic or even more compared to customers. Actuary or Tech analyst or whatever still have to talk to clients, managers, and colleagues. No one works alone in the today competitive world. The least communicative jobs are those tradies like brick laying where you just focus on doing a nice job.

at my school (in my first year) only ten enrolled in Accounting Technology (including myself) and almost 100+ enrolled in Accountancy. Whats funny is that half of 100 accountancy studs gave up and shifted to other courses. and most accountancy studs who survived sophomores and now juniors shifted to accounting tech. I think its better to start off to Accounting Technology first before proceeding to Accountancy. lol just my opinion tho.

Charles Manson Depending on your job, meaning what type of accountant you are or what tasks you perform daily, some are more interesting than others. It also depends on the industry that you work at. In general, say if you are an accountant at a medium company doing paperworks all day, it is dead boring. Accounting has the highest percentage of graduates who don't work in the field after graduating. Though being an external auditor of the big 4 may be interesting, none fresh graduate would land to that job on the first hand. How many years would it take an accountant to have a job travelling around the world as an auditor? You would quit way earlier before that. I would say unless you are really interested in checking others' maths or sitting at a desk in front of a computer looking at numbers all day, which some people may do, leave the profession for immigrants.

(im afraid of) 2. how stable are these two compared to each other? and 3. i heard that accountant can work any industries where as computer science can work only in tech industry is this truw? please answer for me? thanks and very informative video!!

vandetta.. i try to answer your question no 1. according to me, of course, it will not replace an accountant, yet they will collaborate. as a modern, accountant need technology to help their job to be easy. but accountant can't replace because the acccountant jobs is not only about to input transactions, but it is more, ex analysis and making the financial statement to be better suitable with standar acccounting. and it is based on whether financial accountant, auditor, tax, or many knowledge that will we get only from accountancy.

@Hawktotalwar
@Hawktotalwar 9 жыл бұрын
I think engineering makes more but to be honest engineering is becoming more of an English degree. You would likely find a job with an accounting degree as compared with an engineering degree. As explained in the video no matter how the economy is the company would always need accountants to tell how their company is running financially. So if you want to play it safe then accounting is your choice, Sauder is pretty good anyway to get you far.

It all depends on how far you go but generally accountants are well paid for their work. I work as a mid level accountant and I currently earn about 54K USD part qualified a year, if I get all my exams my salary could potentially go up to around 80K USA per year with the right job without to much hassle/stress. If I were a financial controller or an FP&A accountant in a large firm your talking at least double that and a financial director will earn around 1m USA + bonuses.

True! But think, you cannot have any sort of business without an accountant because we have to report to the government. Your business cannot be good if you don't have management or marketing skills. But without accounting, it cannot even be existing. You will need an external accounting service soon if you don't know accounting. And what people don't know about accountants is that they know more than how much you think they know. As a matter of fact, they have all the figures of your business, all along the value chain.

Tesla I'm not. And I didn't like accounting before when I was studying management. But I'm studying real estate now, and I respect accounting. I am still not a fan of accounting though. My mom is an accountant, she is ok with and influenced by accounting. However, I wouldn't say she is crazily in love with it. Evidently speaking, she would not happily go over piles of documents. I don't think anyone would. But some find it okay or very okay. Accountants have a perception that work is not fun, because if it is it is not work. Another one is there is always a conflict of interest between boss and employee. This job is very opposite to marketing. Anw, it is a professional job.

Daniel Huynh That is the downside. I'm sitting on this dilemma whether it's worth to have a nice income, be respect by your clients but go through life unhappy, and in some cases even depressed. I'm really wondering whether i should go for engineering or go for accounting. Could you ask your mom this (or would you think: Would she choose accounting again if she got to make the choice and was young again?

Tesla She would choose it again. She learnt lots of business techniques information from it. Her accounting was very necessary for her and my family. We have 6 properties now. She calculated everything, buying, borrowing, renting, lending others, etc. My father who is a manager just does his job going to work and plans nothing. But if I can choose, I don't like an accountant mom.

@@nicolasgomez5207 lol so true. Many graduate with finance degree because they think they're going to be the next wolf of wall street only to end up at a job completely unrelated to Finance or worst(no job).

Don't do it account sucks. I have a college level accounting class and I'm only a sophomore in high school. Every day I walk in the class I just want to shoot myself. The teacher starts off every class with a lecture that has nothing to do with any of the problems we are doing. She doesn't really teach the class. She does one example for us on the board. She literally just rights numbers down in a chart for like 10 minutes and at the end she says, "Is everybody okay with that?" And I don't even know what to ask I am so confused. Then she assigned a homework assignment that is similar to the example she does on the board but not in the same format.
