I really needed to watch this video. I've been watching my CTL dropping since the start of winter and it has been messing with my mind. This has made it much clearer.

Mines is similar, but my FTP has increased. I was getting worried until i did my last FTP test. I suspect i've been doing too much for the last 6 months and after the last few weeks i'm approaching being fresh...... I feel at top fitness despite CTL dropping 40+pts.

Good conversation. You kind of touched on it at the end, but it’s a little confusing because multiple times Coach Chad says things like “700 CTL”, but he means “700 TSS”.

Thanks guys. I rode my bike cross country in zone 2 and my CTL climbed into the 130s from the accumulated TSS. I was nowhere near as fit or fast at that time as I am now, using structured workouts and plans on TR, with a CTL that hovers around the 70s.

And yet in your blog (www.trainerroad.com/blog/why-tss-atl-ctl-and-tsb-matter/), in the table near the top it is stated "CTL measures fitness, the cumulative effect of training over time". Isn't that a little confusing or have I misunderstood?

Hey! We explain that in the article as well, if you scroll down to the 'CTL' segment of the article: "The phrase “fitness” is often used as synonymous with CTL, but this is technically inaccurate: CTL quantifies your training, but does not always necessarily reflect your body’s response to that training." :)

I'd just like to shoutout that Trainerroad is the best thing I've done for fitness, it tells me exactly what to do and that is something I need in my life right now. Tomorrow I added a v02 workout on the calendar and I WILL do exactly what it says, "Good thing my FTP is only 192w".

Without testing I raise/lower my FTP monthly based on how I feel. This gives me correct CTL imo
