The Dark Souls speedrunning scene was split into separate leaderboards when FromSoftware decided to get their original Dark Souls release remastered. Although the games differ very little casually, the speedrun differs majorly between the two different versions. In this video we will take a close look what is behind these changes in strategies used by the speedrunners and why exactly Dark Souls needs two separate speedruns.

Theres a soul dup that allows you to dup the soul group into how ever many arrows you have So if have 99 arrows And have 1 soul of whatever You can make that soul have value of 99 of that same soul

@@thehylianloach9473 You can dupe items using either Quantity Duping with Frampt or by using a glitch called Negative Dupe (or Brightness Dupe). The latter works in both versions of the game and as such was not covered in the video.

I’m disappointed they took the prepare to die edition off steam I would love to play the original again with all of the beautiful lag and wonderful frame drops in blighttown (no I’m not kidding I actually want that)

Hold up. Dark Souls still has an item weight capacity like Demon's Souls, only cranked up to a crazy number like 10,000? And here I always thought there was no limit to the amount you could carry besides stack size. Learn something new everyday

As someone who's still getting into speedrunning of the series relatively recently, I knew some of this, but I'm glad that I could learn quite a bit more. You do good work, Cata. Also, nice choice in BGM. In particular, I appreciate your using music from Metroid Prime, as it fit better than I had been anticipating.

You didn't mention that you still can confirmation box dupe in the remaster, but you have to do frame perfect pauses and can't chain confirmation box dupes so as a result it's a lot slower, making Pocket Frampt the preferred way to do it even if you have a boss soul in your inventory.

5:00 is the brightness dupe. Also, if you go to items near frampt and select 999 arrows, go to parry an enemy then keep a fluid motion heading back to frampt, you can dupe any stackable item in your bottomless box. But its kinda a semi complicated duping glitch

This is fascinating to me since I don't follow the scene closely and I had no idea the remastered had so many little differences that impacted the techniques so severely. Now I get why I don't see runners adopting it. Are you planning to do running in the remaster as well? Would be interesting to see how the times and strategy compare. I plan on running Remastered again (ran it a bit when it came out) relatively soon, as there might be something spicy coming up ^^
