Samsung, Google, Xiaomi, BBK companies all removed removable batteries, headphone jack, expandable storage. Many have already removed the charger from the box. So if Apple started selling their overpriced car with optional wheels. Other car manufacturers like Toyota, Hyundai, Honda, Suzuki would've followed their lead to improve their bottom-line.

Apple is too much worried about its reputation and doesn't want to take a step which can harm it. Downfall of apple has already started bcs they are not innovating at all. They are just copying its competitors features and polishing them. Apple has become so much big that they are afraid to try new things.

Making phones and computers is one thing but making car is a job of another dimension. Even though the trend is towards electric vehicles this does not mean that they are something completely new and different from conventional cars. They are still the same cars just without an engine and some more softwares. There is an entire history and a branch of manufacturing in industrial engineering regarding car design and manufacturing. If anyone thinks that a computer making company can make a world-class car in its first attempt (or frankly even in its 10th attempt) without any major help from a great car building brand is just stupid. Software and all those shiny features is just a small part of a big machine which is a car. I am saying all this as a mechanical engineer.

If apple had released their car, Apple iCar - Base Model: Rs. 59,99,990 (250km Range) Apple iCar Plus - Mid Model: Rs 79,99,990 (350km Range) Apple iCar Pro - Top Model: Rs 99,99,990 (450km Range) Apple iCar Pro Max - Flagship : Rs 109,99,990 (650km Range) All these would come with same built in battery but the range is limited by software. one major point you missed, while mentioning the collab between mobile and automakers, is that they are not working on connected cars. Connected cars are normalcy now. Their collaboration is for bringing mobile hardware in cars which will open doors for many new possibilities that you can unlock.

Once Ratan Tata sir had said in an interview, getting into auto industry was the most exciting yet the most challenging business one can ever build. Now also we can see even after making so many good cars & even after acquiring JLR, Tata still haven't reached that level of engine refinement & reliability like Maruti & Toyota resp. So you can imagine, getting into such a sector where cars are getting more & more advanced, doing something out of the box to build a customer base is extremely difficult. Besides, one of the reasons might also be the poor response towards EVs from the car community.

These electronics and Softwere Product based companies needs to understand that vehicle engineering is equivalent and complex as of Aerospace and Aviation. It includes expertise in dynamics, structure, RIG level and vehicle level testing and homologation compliance expertise. I know how imperative is SW and control system in modern day automotive but still these things creates impact. Xiaomi is Chinese company where the product development eco-system is at different level. Basically, circumstances are different for everyone.

Autonomous car being banned is a huge drawback. Plus, Car companies have innovated above and beyond - such as volvo, mercedes, etc. Apple is an innovative TECH company. Their strength is the convenience and ease of use, with any product they make. renault has a JV with samsung in korea because koreans dont trust foreign brands except luxury ones. xiaomi SU7 is only designed by xiaomi, the manufacturing is completely done by beijing auto, the same company which makes mercedes benz cars for china market. sony afeela will likely not go into production.
