Hey, so in regards to gen 5 being a continuation of gen 4 (bad idea in my opinion), how do you think MLP EG would play out since gen 5 is like, what, 300 years in the future?

Speaking of Dazzlings, did anyone else kind of feel bad that their pendants were destroyed at the end of Rainbow Rocks? I get it they were trying to take over the world (not sure why though) and turn people into zombies, but their ability to absorb people's anger I don't see as a bad thing. Imagine if someone had anger issues they probably be thankful towards the Dazzlings if they drained all the anger out of them. Plus if Dragon Ball taught us anything it's that anger just makes you stronger and achieve a new form. Also their fate is kind of a sad one, the reason the Dazzlings survived for so long was because of their pendants, but without will they just fade away like any old human, that's kind of a dark ending if you think about it. If I were to rewrite Rainbow Rocks, I would have the Rainbooms offer the Dazzlings a deal that they can stay at Canterlot High and help the school psychiatrist help students with anger issues, the Dazzlings get to feed on negative emotions and keep their magic while the Rainbooms gain two new acquaintances (Adagio & Aria) and one new friend (Sonata). Doesn't that sound like a better ending?

My experience was different. See, back in Early 2016 (I was 11 at the time), I was not interested in MLP at all because it looked too girly for my liking (then again, I was more into SpongeBob at the time). Fast Forwarding to April 2016, I found about a negative review of that film I never heard of and then on the same month, I was looking around on my TV for something to watch and this movie was on (Discovery Family), but I ended up watching the 2nd Half of it and I remember finding it alright (it was by The Cafeteria Song moment) and then I did watch a couple of FiM episodes (mainly from Seasons 3-5, I watched some episodes of Season 6 in 2017, though not the Starlight Episodes). My first episode (If I recall correctly) being Testing Testing 1,2,3. And I thought they were decent and a bit better than I was expecting them to be. in July 2016, I came across a bit scene of Friendship Games and I was weirded out by Sunset appearing given that she was a villain in the first movie (I haven't watched Rainbow Rocks during that time) and It was pretty jarring. In November 2016, I was sick and bored and then on My TV, they were doing a marathon of all the movies (up to Everfree), So I decided to watch them all. In May 2019, I ended up watching the MLP movie on Hulu because I felt like checking it out and I remember enjoying it In around 2020, I was at a relative's house (I didn't catch COVID) and I ended up watching some episodes of the show (the last few minutes of "She Talks to Angel" and Somepony to Watch Over Me). I got interested when I saw a user I knew back then, who was posting stuff like that on YT with their community posts. Fast Forwarding to 2020. I was bored and I was contemplating whether to watch the show because it was on Netflix, and In July, I decided to watch it out of morbid curiosity and because I was bored during the pandemic. I watched it, but only when my parents weren't around (I had to watch this show at night). Watching the first 5 seasons were easy, but 6-8 wasn't because of online school, so it took me MONTHS just to finish 6 (from September to December) and 7 (January to March) and then I watched the first half of 8 of Netflix (with the last episode being The End in Friend, not a good episode) and decided to watch the remaining parts of 8 and 9 through KZfaq Reaction videos to make it easier to finish. From July 2020 to August 2021. I was able to finish FiM. and Fast forward to June 2022, I recently revisited the EG movies because I already watched FiM and already seen ANG. That's pretty much how I got into FiM

Bro I like EQ more than the main series. Mostly because I love the ships, and the songs, and SUNSET SHIMMER. Sunset Shimmer > Twilight Sparkle in the protag department.

@@NikoZguri I blame Josh Haber and Jim Miller for keeping her out of the main show, deciding to appease the toxic EQG haters. I like Starlight Glimmer, but she became Haber's little b--tch. I even fondly remember believing Sunset was going to be lame in 2013, then funny enough became my all time favorite replacing Rainbow Dash( a character who progressively got worse as time went on)

I second this. Sunset deserved so much better and so much more. Like a real FiM appearance, and a proper ending to her arc. But I thank the lucky stars that we got what we got. I'll probably forget most of EQG, but I won't forget her.

Well actually G5 movie showed their characters as young adults. I think it would be greate if G5 would focus on university instead.

I wonder if it was the reason NOT to bring in Sunset Shimmer into the FiM storyline. Her popularity grew exponentially during the EQG storyline. There was a chance that her popularity would outgrow Princess Twilight's one. It also made more sense to bring Sunset into the FiM storyline. As a former protege of Princess Celestia she could finally finish her journey she once started. But then Hasbro/DHX introduced Starlight Glimmer, very much based on Sunset Shimmer. (Magical powerful, ambitious and misunderstood unicorn) I guess Sunset Shimmer was the reason of success of EQG. She had the most consistent character development.

I disagree the Equestria girls spinoff was great and most people agree it's Good Rainbow rocks was Good friendship games was Good legend of everfree was Good as well movie magic was Good as well spring breakdown was magnificent I loved movie magic rollercoaster of friendship was also Great and sunsets backstage pass was also Great nothing wrong with them all Good so therefore you're wrong

The upside to it not giving it an ending is that we as fans can give it as much growth through fan made comics and FanFiction. The way magic exists there now whereas it barely did before, if at all, and probably continues to grow throughout the years, the magic probably stayed while the magic in Equestria disappeared.

But I still wished the "ending" we got even mentioned the fact that it was "The End", I had to rewatch the trailer to understand that this was it.

Also, some of the best songs from the franchise come from EQG! Especially Rainbow Rocks! I love the music from the shorts as well! The Other Side, Five to Nine, My Past is Not Today, Shake it Up, and Let it Rain are my favourites from there. AND SUNSET SHIMMER IS SUCH A GOOD PROTAGONIST! I hate Twilight Sparkle, I get her character, I just don't like it. I like Sci-Twi (EQG Twilight) because she's got this humbleness to her that helps her smarts not seem...like cocky? I dunno Twilight just always seemed like she knew better than everyone, while Sci-Twi is precisely the opposite.

Full heartedly agree with EQG's music and Sunset Shimmer, they are underrated and awesome respectively. With both Twilights, I like them both equally but completely understand your point of view with Pony Twi. Those two were/still are living very different lives and are counterparts to each other as much as Pony Twilight is with Sunset. As a whole (as in every category of MLP lines), EQG is second on my personal favorites list, right after G3. :)

Besides those guys, I'm not interested in anyone in EG.

The thing I love about Sunset is she unites with the girls way more than Twilight ever did in the main 6. It never felt like Twilight had anything in common with them, while Sunset has dipped her shoes into literally everyone's baskets. She's fashionable like rarity, sporty like rainbow, has hobbies with pinkie, is sciencey like twilight (also shipping), and she's handy and reliable like applejack. And none of this makes her any less her own character because they manage to give her agency over her story.

@@NightRainPanda YESSSS now that you mentioned I see you're right, she is just so much of a good leader for the girls, she really is the right choice for the lead for having so much in common with all of them and for (from my perspective at least) being a natural leader. She just needed the push for the right direction to become this great person she is now. The best thing about all this is that she fought for her place, her change was so genuine, and it fits her perfectly.

While her redemption arc does feels rushed since in the first movie she doesn't show any signs of change until her defeat and is just a generic high school bully with some magical knowledge and a badly planned plan, I do believe she earned her place rightfully. The problem is that her efforts and progress all happened off screen. By the time Rainbow Rocks happened, we see that she has already learned how friendship works, she learned her lesson and her friends had forgiven her, but we don't SEE her learning that, we don't see her struggling to understand how to be nice, we don't see her possible struggle to forgive herself, we don't see her apologizing for the things she did to her friends and earning their trust (and also important events after Rainbow Rocks such as the final steps for earning forgiveness from the entire school completely). These essential parts weren't shown to us, but they were undeniably there. Meanwhile with Starlight is the same thing, but we SEE her progress and struggles. That's why her redemption feels earned and Sunset's don't. The only source of content about these off screen events are fanfics... In other words, speculation. But they did happen, she fought for her place, even if we didn't see. They've made a great work with Sunset's character, but her potential was still wasted. As you said, we don't have enough information of how/why she became evil, and that makes her backstory even more poor than it already was. Such a waste. We could've gotten a much cooler redempted villain... But honestly, I'm quite satisfied with what we've got. So in short, I think Sunset's place in the main cast OF EQUESTRIA GIRLS is rightfully hers and she fits perfectly. And Starlight could have become a main character OF THE MAIN SHOW just fine, she'd be awesome there too (although I really like her as Twilight's pupil). The thing is that EQG and MLP FiM each are, in a way, their own thing. The human world became Sunset's home and she has bounded with everyone there properly. The girl deserves it! Also, just one more thing I wanted to point out, the screentime is a very important factor. MLP FiM, being the main show, has a lot more time to build character arcs, while EQG don't (especially because they cancelled it completely lol), so it affects the quality. Sorry for the big text btw 😅

@@gabidobre5584 I think they're just very different? Starlight was not an evil person, she genuinely thought she was making her village happier by taking their cutie marks. Sunset knew she was wrong but thought she was so deplorable and that no one loved her that she was going to lash out at everyone who had thrown her away (aka Celestia). So Twilight telling her that she does have worth and can be a good person who is loved just lets her fully get rid of her fears. She felt trapped, thought power and ambition would save her, and by doing so fell from grace. I think Sunset represents a cycle of projecting?

@@gabidobre5584 I can pretty succinctly tell you why Sunset is a main and Starlight isn't. EG is a spin off, FIM isn't. Because Twilight was a "visiting" character in the franchise, they needed to establish someone to replace her in order to expand on the franchise in the form of the shorts (on top of which scitwi's personality is not suitable to lead), she is also there from the beginning of EG (aka established). Starlight is a season 5 character who is intruding into the main show. Her becoming a main would mess up art, promotion, having to invent a whole other element of harmony (otherwise it would be kinda awkward especially in later seasons). FIM has a more sturdy lore than EG, whose lore makes no sense and we love it for it. That's how I think of it anyway. I personally think Starlight becoming a mane would have been more forced, as that role didn't need filling, and also she doesn't really click with the rest of the cast (which is part of why i like her, she's like twilight but actually introverted). Starlight also competes character-wise with Twilight too heavily. Sunset would have this problem but not only does her personality shine for itself, but Twilight is not in any EG movies heavily after Rainbow Rocks (which is the one where they do the process of handing the torch).

Well, Hasbro did several reboots with MLP. We have Generation 5 now. But they previous incarnations brought in into new ones. For example Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Rainbow Dash. So a reboot of EQG with a new Sunset Shimmer would make sense. And if you want to have some other edgy characters, I guess Starlight Glimmer and Tempest Shadow would also be adequate candidates for it.
