It's not secret that the hype for Wrath of the Lich King Classic was crazy high. But now that it's over and done with, I think we can all agree it did not live up to it's potential. In this video, we break down exactly what I think contributed the most in every single phase and raid tier. If you agree with these opinions or not, it's a fun look back at the noteworthy moments and a retrospective on what we're doing the last time we were all playing, no matter what raid that was.
Let me know what you think the reason was for this expansions degraded experience in the comments.

Wrath sucked back in the day too it was just a huge portion of the playerbase's first endgame experience so they remembered it fondly(which is completely understandable). Very few of the fights are fun across all 4 of the raid tiers and the loot homoginaztion problem retail suffers with began to take shape here.

I have a way different view on all of these and I think it comes down to 1 reason. I'm a healer who doesn't care about parsing. The parsing mentality has ruined so much of wow. IDK why people compare themselves to everyone else in the wow community who might have different comps, kill times, strats. It's like the new version of speed running. I hate it. And GDKP being the only pug around also ruined the game, I hope there's less of that in Cata. It's odd how any kind of challenge and people quit. My old GM quit at the end of Uld because not everyone played at 100%. Yeah some people mess up, you do Uld in 2 nights instead of 1. What's the big deal? Naxx was 1 nightable because it was all tank and spank. Uld had mechanics and execution. On top of that if the HM wasn't doable, you could go on normal. My other guild quit when we were progging H. LK. I never understood the hate for challenging raids.

As someone who did not really get to raid in OG Wrath (I started like a month before cata pre-patch at 11 years old). I played a TON of warmane going into that content lul of sunwell, warmane felt infinitely better than wrath Classic.

The difficulty of Ulduar and TOC paired with the blandness of the latter outright killed my casual guild that had existed since vanilla. These raids brought out anger and toxicity in my friends that I've never seen before while gaming. That's definitely what killed my enjoyment.

Up until ICC I’ve gotta say wrath just didn’t live up to the hype. I was excited coming into the game and having the chance to do Ulduar when it was current. Turns out, it became my least favorite raid tier of all time.

Launch was great (as always). Ulduar was a great raid if you were in a guild that required players to have their monitors on (many in "bad" guilds quit). Ulduar lasted about 4-6 weeks too long. ToGc was raid log/break period and way too easy. ICC was awsome until they decided the slow buff roll out. They spoiled the ending with that dumb ICC buff slow roll. They fucked the end up. Overall still better than TBC and Vanilla classic so = WIN. Cata will be fun at launch and I hope they don't nerf everything for the casual (no effort) guilds who want to pretend they are heroic raiders. Fingers crossed.
@cello1993
@cello1993 Ай бұрын
It took so so long for the buff to go out though. We'd cleared everything and were getting bored of ICC by the time the buff started. It only made easier to steamroll the raid for us and helped struggling guilds to finally get something done. Idk why many people have a gripe with it.

If you thought ICC was brutal, I’m not sure you’ll enjoy Cata, MoP and potentially WoD. Looking back at Wrath, these were training-wheel raids as Blizzard was just now starting to experiment with difficult mechanics.

sounds like u just want target dummy bosses to click on with minimal mechanics and/or breakpoints that 99,9% of the playerbase could care less about. I thought the difficulty of ulduar and icc were both pretty spot on for the avg guild. also idk what u mean by everyone quitting when the playerbase remained fairly consistent for most of the expansion if looking at the ironforge data (launch and icc after like 3 months not counted)

Wotlk was good for the time but comparing it to modern wow or classic it’s just a watered down unbalanced version of both. I have had more fun in cata prepatch than the entirety of wrath.

More like burnout as if people wanted a second part time job to do all the hard modes. Wrath, will always be the best xpac, with tbc being 2nd. Sunwell was hard but that's what blizzard aimed for back in the day. Guess no one ever heard of everquest. Scrubs.

people took off their rose tinted goggles and finally saw the truth: wrath is not a good expansion class balance was bad in pve and especially in pvp naxx sucked because way too easy many heroics sucked with their escorts and/or vehicles togc is a bad raid add to that the legions of bots and how many hackers/scripters/wintraders there were in arena, RMT/the wow token and GDKPs

This whole video sounds like you are making up excuses for why you wrath wasnt actually as good as people remembered it to be. The only true extreme negative is blizzard killing older raids with titan rune dungeons to get people into raids faster. Ironically this killed some peoples motivation to gear a character at all. TBC was just the best expansion and nothing will ever change that.

I never played Ulduar before, and I enjoyed immensely, honestly. Was in a speedrun guild. Wouldve prefered parsing, but it was fine. I also liked TOGC, I could play like 5 chars a week and it was cool. ICC was way worse than Ulduar for me, way way worse. After like 100 pulls and killing LKHC I quit few weeks after and never came back. All in all, youre right, WOTLK wasnt good. Vanilla is best, forever.

Honestly wrath was fun. Honestly the worst part was all the brain dead players. Every dad player playing a 15 year old game to still play like ass. Everyone complains about the mid max comnunity like there was any other point to play. And if you disagree you were part of the problem played ele sham the whole xpac probably one of the "worst classes" shitting on unholy and aff locks the entire time

Braindead players killed the game just as much as parsers, and they directly fueled eachother. No one wanted to play with people who were too lazy to even get gems and enchants, so they created a social credit system for raiding and treated raid spots like jobs. It's hard to find a nice middle ground, where people know how to play the game, but aren't actively optimizing the fun out of it

@@Josephus-Crooksicus i can deffentily see youre point and 100% agree with you but at the same time i guess its just my personal opinion but the mid maxxing was the fun part trying to be the best or atleast close to was fun for me. I can see how thats not everyone cup of tea, but my only arguement at that point is why are you playing a solved game at that point? Its like replaying youre favorite campaign are you doing it just to do it or do you wanna beat youre last score? Idk like i said its just my opinion but i can see where youre coming from

@@stephenrogers3875 Something I loved to do was mess around with meme builds or niche or novel, or whatever, even if just for leveling. Pure vanilla is my favourite, because leveling was my favourite part, with TBC as a close second. During TBC I had a blast leveling a survival hunter and out DPSing everyone in dungeons on the way to max. Everyone said survival hunters were terrible throughout every part of the game, but even solved games have new things to discover. The problem I have with min-maxxers is they inhibit the kind of creativity that leads to these new things being discovered. When I think of the most fun new builds that were discovered in classic era, I don't believe many of them came from the orthodox min-maxxers. There isn't much fun for me to play a solved game with the already known solutions but faster. I understand why people want everyone to stick to the formulas, because a lot of people aren't good at the game to successfully experiment with builds. But that's where I want the middle ground. I want to play with people that are willing to take a novel approach, but have the skill and knowledge to do so. I don't want to play with people that are awful, nor do I want to play with people that want to allocate my every talent point. Another great memory I had during classic vanilla was tanking Scarlet Monestary spam as a beast master hunter in a group of 4. We were all forced to communicate effectively, and play our classes to their limits, utilizing all the tricks and utilities we had. It was significantly more fun than the endless optimized cleave groups that would arise. I wanna riff, I wanna jam, I don't just wanna practice rudiments and execute the same composition every time.

@@Josephus-Crooksicus I think people forget sometimes that games are supposed to be fun, you are supposed to enjoy yourself in the way you see fit to enjoy yourself and not how other people dictate how you are to enjoy a game. WoW min maxxers were bad because they would deeply impose their stupidly high standards and requirements upon everyone else and bully and demean everyone else into submission. Regardless of if they are having their own fun or not. To a point where everyone had to have they right unnecessarily high gear score and know all of the tactics and have all of the mods and all of the right builds because you if you weren't doing it the right way you weren't playing the game right. It's what ruins every vaguely competitive game these days. Thousands of people who demand that the only way to enjoy the game is to find the most optimal way to play it. Forgetting that solving a game forces developers to ruin the experience for casual players by heavily patching and forcing more effort onto everyone to keep up and reinforcing a live service behaviours that shitty developer/publishers like Blizzard rake in millions from at the expense of other peoples time and wallets.
@Josephus-Crooksicus
@Josephus-Crooksicus 2 ай бұрын
@@MintyDarkFinger But in all fairness, we have to remember that it's really not fun to play with people who are so bad that you can't even do the content with them. Min-maxxing didn't come out of nowhere, we all, at some point or another, decided we needed some barriers of entry. Unfortunately I think those barriers should come from organic gameplay, not artificially imposed by the players. I'd love to see a version of WoW, or any MMO, where the leveling process alone is difficult enough that simply reaching max level will require you to be a skilled player. Unfortunately, I don't think Blizzard would ever have the guts to support such a game mode.
