The most famous rabbi on record saying that it isn't heretical to say God needs us is one of the leading sages and Kabbalist living in Jerusalem, Israel today - Rabbi Yaakov Hillel.
When speaking with him about this topic, he affirmed that it is NOT heretical, but that the idea should be taught only when properly explained (that God is infinite needing and lacking nothing, God doesn't need at all in the same way humans need).
Recently many rabbis have come out in support saying that it isn't heretical to say God needs us, but that the idea should be correctly explained, not just said in a way that people can wrongly assume that God's needs are like our needs - God forbid.
