Jason was probably the best bassist for metallica after cliff’s death. His playing was treated poorly and so was he. I think he was just fed up and wanted to have his voice heard elsewhere, but James wouldn’t have it.

Jason was a perfect fit for Metallica but Rob Trujillo is clearly the most skilled and accomplished out of all of them. Cliff was of course the legendary GOAT but based on sheer accolades Rob is the best.

I agree with Jason on this one especially he was treated like Meg from Family Guy in the band but it was good that he left because they've Rob in which he resurrected Metallica back from the dead and he's a kick ass bass player.

He also probably got tired as hell of Lars and James desire to sell out and become pop rock stars. It goes against every album they wrote prior to the black album. I don't even listen to Metallica anymore on principal. You can't lift the wool off an entire generations eyes, then flip flop, and expect to keep your original fan base.

Well said. Yeah I'll listen to sanitarium and shit like that if it's on but I don't think I have a single metallica song on my music app. I'll still listen to megadeth all the time. I think they fell into that pop rock type of vibe for a minute in the 90s but I enjoy most of that. Count down to extinction is their black album and it's a favorite of mine. Dave's out there still rocking to this day and putting out music that has some resemblance to what it used to be. Mind you it's been kinda shit for the past decade but what do you expect? Definitely not the alienation of an entire fan base tho.

If a band has to hire a psychologist just for everyone to get along you know theres a problem. Its not expected that theyll all agree, or get along 100% of the time, spats will happen as will disagreements....but when you have to bring in a psychologist things are beyond repair

The reason he left is because Sheamus (Hetfield) and Axel (Lars Ulrich) were bullying him because they thought he was trying to replace Cliff Burton and show off but Jason never really wanted to replace anyone even after Cliff's death Jason was just being himself he wasn't trying to be the second Cliff Burton.

It was primarily the echobrain issue, James unyielding and total control. Which they've later admitted was wrong. Even though they made their least metal music with Jason, they still felt more metal with him. I can't pinpoint why, cuz I think Rob is an incredible talent. I definitely miss Jason's backing vocals. It's a shame he's stepped away from music.

He was an awesome member but an average bassist. I have a grudge against him still because he passed out drunk at a show I saw at the ballpark in New Hampshire back in , roughly 1993! They had to play half the set without a bassist 🙄
