the funniest part about this video is that by the time it came out, Mushroom Man #2 fell off because it stopped being niche, started seeing widespread usage, and OCG players came prepared for it LOL

Mushroom Man #2 was always a great card waiting for its time to shine. The meta opened a few slots for it but before that, with only 15 cards in your side deck, there just was not mush room for it.

I always love siding Mask Change 2 in random Dark decks. Nobody expects Orcust, Dragons, Spyral or Runick to drop a random Dark Law. It's especially funny if you drop it on resolution of your opponent's Dark Ruler No More.

Whenever I play Dinomorphia I can't control the jank and have to side in Divine Serpent Geh. It's just a huge bungus that can be a pain to deal with and gets your life points halved pretty much for free

Mushroom Man is such a random ass card to side. That's what I love about YGO for not having set rotation, you never know what random cards will end up in the side deck all of the sudden. I'm personally waiting for Shapesnatch and Jerry Beans Man to see competitive play.

Sideboard is so weird bc it’s very easy to get complacent but super hard to come up with actually good options.

Just wanna add on to the bits about Mushroom man. The reason why that OCG player did not play Iblee (which could have worked the same way as Mushroom man) is because most Kshatri-La decks' response to opp giving them a monster is to normal summon Riseheart, link away to make Donner, and then use its effect to pop itself and an opp's card. But importantly, Donner requires 2 monsters of different types, and Mushroom man and Riseheart are both warriors, so in that one specific scenario it is better than Iblee. And to add on to weird side deck options, that Mushroom man player only won 3rd, but a recent trio of tearalament players in another tournament played in both groups and individuals and won 2nd, and they used the Ra engine of Guardian slime, Egyptian God slime, the True Sun God, and sphere mode. The idea is that you can make god slime using tear's effects, which then protects Kitkallos from all the common targeting effects in the meta (imperm, drago, sulliek, veiler, ghost mourner, Kshatri-La's entire family), and Trun Sun God fetches you sphere mode to break board the next turn while preventing ur opp's special summoned monsters from attempting to otk.

7:16. Eltanin was overkill buuuuuuuut: Sky Strikers could side triple Toon Table of Content and one Toon Cyber Dragon to basically do the same thing because: -You put 3 spells in the graveyard -Megafleet needs a Cyber Dragon **monster**

Shoutout to Cipher Soldier which was an extremely popular side deck (and sometimes even main deck) pick during the tier 0 Six Samurai meta in Duel Links. Shi En negates and Dual Strike bounces were so oppressive and the card pool in Duel Links at the time was so limited that being able to easily normal summon what was effectively a 3350 ATK beatstick (against Warrior monsters and nothing else) actually did a decent job at keeping Six Sams boards in check.

I absolutely love the guy who sided an entire Cyber tragic package to counter one strategy. That’s about as close to switching decks as you can get in a tournament.

In MTG, One With Nothing actually got sideboard play against “Owling Mine” decks.

Penguin soldier and Neko mane king could also go on this list as right now they technically counter the ishizu stuff. Uniting the graveyard with the decks to form a new deck is very good against ishizu, and ending their turn is decent.

Sad I missed this one but during zoo format I would side duston roller. People started to synchro off the flying "c" using handtraps so instead of giving them the option to synchro it off, and duston roller was the counter to the counter but also worked on just NS rat. It was gnomaterial at home before we ever had gnomaterial.

In Duel Links Meta's best of 3 tournaments, Resonator decks used to sometimes side Goblin of Greed because they could easily search level 4 Fiends and it turned off Karma Cut. Which was the main banish removal of the time

I remember siding exactly 1 Invaders of Darkness in Labrynth to counter Runick. It somehow worked every time and I do not know why.

The thing with wattkinetic pupeteer against striker was, that you used it on your own turn to turn off all of the striker quick plays, not to disrupt your opponent in any way. It also was a good handtrap against guardragon piles that where running around, mainly thundra guardragon

Mechanical Hound is still being considered for play in Vernusylph decks, specifically against Runick. Similarly, Vernusylph sometimes decks or side decks either Amorphage Goliath or Sloth, as a way to floodgate Tearlaments.

This just means Konami needs to get working on that Mushroom Man #2 Support! Just take a small break from all the Blue-Eyes and give us Mushroom Man archetype

I feel like due to tournament time rules, there's a ton of dumb stuff in side decks specifically for life point modulation, like that Skull Marked Ladybug card.

My favorite side deck i ever saw Was a trickstar deck that in game 2 switched to an abc core and was no longer running the trickstar engine

Xyz Encore saw a lot more play in early Xyz format than just against Rhongo. People would actually start to play rank 3s (and sometimes going even further with 2s) that they couldn't normally make just to have something to go into after being hit with it

I play PUNK Kashtira at the moment and Uka is a god card in that deck. Triggers off E-Tele, Foxy Tune, and Shangri-Ira. If your opponent controls an earth monster you can summon a free copy of Fenrir too.

Wasn't there for this stream, but in HAT format I was siding "XYZ universe" in Mermail, to steal rank 3 and 4 monsters to make my own Dracosack on my opponents turn when they would make me go first.

If I'm able to get to any large events while Ishizu tear is still the best deck (sadly not a likely situation) I will be playing a penguin centric water deck and I will be side decking Penguin Knight because I doubt there will ever be a situation that I can justify doing so again. The card is really bad but if they mill it for me past turn one, suddenly my decks grind game gets so much better...

For a time during SPYRAL Format, I considered running Closed Forest with the idea of locking them out of Resort if I was going first (unfortunately, I was never able to test that theory because I only attended locals twice around very early Link format).

Some Salamangreat players used to side deck Prohibit Snake as an out to Winda. If my memory serves me correct I think it was Jesse Kotton who popularized this one.

I love siding in jank. Back when my main deck was Dark Worlds, I ran Trap Eater to out Shadow Imprisoning Mirror and Chaos Hunter to counter Macro and D Fi. I also teched in Mischief of the Yokai against both Dino Rabbit and Wind-Up, since that would mess up their Xyz plays twice.

I sided Mechanical Hound and End Of Anubis in my Infernoid deck. Good stuff, especially in Nekroz format. :)

On the very few occasion i tried to participate at locals i used to side one additional target to summon with Waking the dragon in an experimental build of Sacred Beast control, my 2 targets were ultimate falcon and mechaba, but for a while i used to side Cyber Dragon Infinity in the corner case where my opponent would destroy waking while I go second, for monster stealing purposes

There was an idea in Awesome HERO to side in Winged Dragon of Ra to combat Sphere Mode, but aside from it not being that powerful to begin with, relying on Bubbleman stupidly locked you out of using any cards that couldn't be immediately committed to the board

I'm pretty sure Wattkinetic Puppet was used in your turn in order to turn off Sky Striker backrow by moving it from the EMZ to the Main Monster Zone. But Kaijus were better because they did the same function of putting a monster in the Main Monster Zone while also being useful in other matchups like outing Thunder Dragon Colossus and also in the Salamangreat matchup to turn off Rage/Roar as they can only be activated if they control a Salamangreat Link Monster which was usually the reincarnated Sunlight Wolf they left on their field.

I recall King of the Feral Imps being sided back when Dark Worlds saw a lot of tournament play in the early/mid 2010s, and maybe also when the WInd-Up Loop was still making people scoop. Wow I'm old.

3:11 ahh you see all the sky striker link monster point only in one direction and the sky striker spell cards need their player to have no monsters in the main monster zone to use their full effects so when your opponent goes into their end phase moving the singular link monster they have into a main monster zone ruins their spell card plays

I played Morphtronic Scopen in some synchro decks when Halq first came to TCG because I thought summoning a 4 off of Halq would have some kind of niche use. I was wrong.

Not exactly INTENDED as a meme side deck, but might as well have been. On my Crystal Beast Tribrigade deck I run Salvation to easily access Rainbow Ruins as intended whenever I need it, but I also used it a couple of times as a board wipe against Sky Prison Eldlitch. The jankiest thing I have is the meme side deck of the Six Samurai deck containing gems like Refpanel+Charity and Full Salvo, but that deck is not designed to be used against players.

Hear me out with Wattkinetic.. Since you can use it at any point, the use would be of essentially handtraping the striker of not being able to use their spells. End phase Shizuku eff with multirole, chain Wattkinetic, and now while they still may have those resources, they’re not able to go on the crack back during your turn… Or am I just seriously overthinking this?

fun fact: xyz encore was sided for a while by current HAT format's best player, ultra plant, in his CAT deck (C for cardcar and also maxx c) as a side in for one of the deck's worst matchups (aka 50/50), evilswarms. He stopped siding it like a month ago though so :P

I used to sideboard and the band plays on to stop xyz plays and limit the sychros monster they could try to play at locals.

Actually, Magical Spring was an amazing card to side in early Pendulum Days. You would draw 2 from their scales and then prevent them from going plus with Plushfire, wavering eyes etc since they coudln't pop their own scales any more. You could even lock them out of the game competely if they scaled Luster+Plushfire as they are both 5

If I was amazing at Yu-Gi-Oh, I'd side a copy of one of those 5* Vanillas with like 1600 attack from the first few sets, like Doma The Angel Of Silence, just so I could hopefully topcut a tournament and confuse people in the future who look up my decklist.

I don't think anything quite beats the one format where MtG players would side One with Nothing, a card that was THE best card in the game...at discarding your own hand. Quick effect for practically no cost, discard your entire hand. No, it was not to activate hellbent or because you wanted those cards in the graveyard. It was because there was a deck called "owling mine" that stuffed your hand full of cards and burned you for it. The more you could fire that sucker, people said, the more likely you were to win. Literally unplayable in any format except that one, and debatably unplayable in that one in hindsight, but undebatably extraordinarily funny.
