So, while the total amount of mined silver is higher, the amount of gold available for investment and use as bullion is more than that of silver. Based on the most recent data, the total global supply of silver in 2023 was forecasted to be nearly 1.03 billion ounces1. In comparison, the total amount of gold that has been mined throughout history is estimated to be around 5.8 billion troy ounces2. However, it’s important to consider that a significant portion of silver is used in industrial applications and is not recovered, whereas almost all gold ever mined is still in existence and potentially recoverable because gold is mostly used for investment and jewelry, and it does not get consumed in industrial processes to the same extent as silver.
