Apparently, blowing up your own farmhouse makes the locals a bit wary of you building a farm shop? Jeremy now has to appeal the council's decision and put together a business plan for the shop.

The towns people and the council don’t want any changes to the village but yet my local high street and many streets around have all changed into shite carpet stores, takeaways full of rats and money laundering hairdressers where all the staff and their mates sit out front chucking their rubbish and spitting everywhere!!! There is protection of the Green Belt (Basically a ton of farm/green land), and policies around it that have to be fought against, this not only includes excess buildings but even how much environment damage and noise disruption from passing cars getting to said building can cause...plus the locals...we all know how accommodating neighbours can be. No such things exist in and around city centres and towns where there is no such land, so it's significantly easier to get all the corner shops, takeaways and carpet/tiling stores you're referring to.

The first main complaint ‘the risk of damaging the village shops’. So someone in the village probably has a shop where they sell produce, perhaps from local farms as well as probably regular brand groceries (probably at overinflated marked up prices) and are worried about the competition, so pre-emptively try to put him out of busines.

of course its hard and all your known surroundings change and villages grow into citys but you cannot stop that and you must not force your will on the people who may like the change. if jeremy wants to open a shop so be it this is a free country. and yes a quiet rural life can be nice but you can also not deny that urbanization continues all over the globe with no signs of stoping anytime soon because we as humanity grow more and more everyday so sooner or later you have to adjust to reality anyway or you build a tall fence around your village for it to be a rural oasis in a urban world and shout, your fist raised in anger, at them damn outsiders.
@dcarbs2979

@@the_godfather9974 That's exactly what council rules are for. The usual decision is the balance between urbanisation and protecting the isolation of rural areas. Humanity may grow more and more each day, but there is plenty of space away from this crowded small island.

I think it is entirely reasonable to want to preserve a decent little community. Too much of the world is already corporation owned mass produced chain stores that completely destroy local economies and leach all the local money to some distant corporate headquarters. Being wary of new businesses trying to move in is 100% understandable and justified.
@alexfrye6
@alexfrye6 2 ай бұрын
@@TheDrexxus Jeremy's farm shop wasn't going to be taking customers from the existing local businesses it would be bringing people to the area who otherwise wouldn't have come at all. Also even if it were taking customers simply not wanting competition shouldn't be a good reason to block a planning application.
@TheDrexxus
@TheDrexxus 2 ай бұрын
@@alexfrye6 That just means the little village could be flooded with people who have no interest in spending money in the area outside of Jeremy's shop. Meanwhile they're increasing traffic, wear and tear on the road, potentially even putting strain on police resources if any of them are unruly. Jeremy isn't just some quaint, local farmer, he is a celebrity. He's going to be attracting people from all over and not all of them are going to have good intentions. Some may just want to get on TV. Some may just want to show up to take selfies next to a location that is seen on TV. People do these things all the time. The kind of people he is going to attract aren't the type of people a little village like that wants coming in. If he was somehow attracting people who had a genuine desire to patronize the town and community with no ulterior motives or consequences, that would be one thing, but it's far more likely to harm the community than help it. Another issue with stuff like this is that if it starts attracting enough people, it'll start to affect the town in other negative ways. People will start buying land nearby the leech off the increased traffic, trying to sell things to them too. Look at towns like Orlando Florida where there was literally nothing there until Walt Disney bought a bunch of land to make Disney World, then a bunch of businesses sprang up all around it trying to prey on tourists. It went from a tiny, tiny community of farmers into a bustling city full of crime and tourist traps. And the whole reason Walt made it in the first place is because his first Disney Land that he built in California suffered the exact same fate and was suddenly surrounded by tourist traps with people preying on those passing through to sell them cheap shit in tacky ways. What you have to realize is that a lot of people move to remote, small villages for the sole purpose of living in remote, small villages. They don't WANT it to grow up and be huge because it loses its character and gains a bunch of problems like crime and traffic and the cost of living skyrocketing. There is no universe where Jeremy's Store helps the local community more than hurts it in the long run. Actions have consequences and you need to consider all of them before making decisions about such things. This town has a good reason for not wanting to attract a bunch of outsiders because that situation always ends poorly.

It’s mental how the local council does everything in their power to make life harder for Clarkson. They’re complaining that people park on the street when they visit his farm shop but at the same time they refuse to grant a planning permission for a bigger car park. Should have dug the shop foundations a few million gallons deeper. Then all the spare milk tankers due to the WEF cutting the amount of farming allowed on each farm! The water could be pumped up from the council percieved illegal trout farm into tje tankers for sale to councils operating hosepipe bans. Now this gets great. The way forward is to: Build a massive hole (I mean a rainwayer soakaway). That hole should have piles driven in (pseudo centrally), as would be appropriate to a shop & large restaraunt foundation. Build a shop resteraunt on the piles. The restaraunt has an indoor waterfall that is plentifully fed with water from the hole and going down iback nto the hole. The rainwater soakaway is filled with trout. Build a safety (picturesque) footbridge for customers and produce conveyance between dry land & the shop restaraunt. As customets sit in the restaraunt, the actual menue can be seen jumping up each level of the waterfall and so the customers can objectively choose their meals. So many major problems solved by just 1 genious solution.

Ultimately it will bring jobs and more prosperity to the whole local community. Its probably more of a case that some of the older community on comfortable pensions don't want their peaceful and tranquil existence disturbed.

Why would they. You think everyone wants to live in Urban hell just because you do

@pevebe I guess you have a point. Retire to a nice peaceful quiet area, and then Jeremy Clarkson rocks up. Think many of the average farmers out there do have it tough and should be allowed to diversify to retain an income. You make an assumption I live in an urban hell, I don't. Speaking as a former farmer, the countryside cannot just be a peaceful rural retreat for the retired wealthy. Land and farming is a business. Younger people need employment and places to live.

@@Banditmanuk Thing is though that Clarkson has lived in the area for years. Chadlington is only like 3 miles from Chipping Norton. So he isn't exactly a "new" resident.

Went to the farm shop, you can really see why people didn’t want it in the first place. My friend has been twice, both times there have been queues outside of 30+ with traffic and cars parked dangerously all up the road outside. I do wonder if the locals will be able to shut it down

That oldest elderly Karen there in the pink jumper needs to do her own research properly altogether there because Jeremy Clarkson didn't even blow up his own house there it's was definitely james may and Richard Hammond just standing there and watched the Jeremy Clarkson house blown up
