I began to feed stray kittens and it reached the point that I was feeding 11 cats. I reached out to a local organization who helped to trap them and fixed them for free since im terminally ill and disabled. I have been there of letting in one of the black cats who always runs to me and she is friendly to the 2 dogs i have. I love cats and dogs and i will always take care of them. ❤

That’s true, they do move and it’s often because they like the physical surroundings more. A cat across the road from me live in a comfortable house with 4 children. It simply preferred living under my house with only one other person (me a middle-aged bachelor).

As i read the comments, i became very happy that my two little Panthers ( a feline and a tomcat, siblings) never left me. I live in a House with a big Garden, maybe that's the reason but i always liked to think they love me so much as i love them. I lost my Wife back in 2006, our Son was 7 and i raised him as a single Dad. I never married again and was happy but in 2021 i lost my beloved Son due a tragic accident. Those 2 Cats saved my life and i don't know what had happen with me without them❤❤❤💔❤️‍🩹🙏

I am the second home for a cat who lives 3 houses away. He comes over every evening through the cat door, anytime between 7:30 and 9:30, purrs like a freight train, and demands his snuggles. Eats a little, but really comes over for the scritches and cooing. He's here in the daytime only during bad weather.

Many, many years ago, we rescued/adopted an orange/white female tabby (she was, technically, a "calico" because one patch of black hair that looked like an "motor oil stain") that was hanging around the outdoor break (smoking) area where my mom worked. We had her for about 2 years before she ran away when we brought home a gray (male) kitten as a companion for her. She wouldn't have anything to do with him, and after a couple of weeks or so, she ran away and she never came back. That was 35 years ago, and I still wonder what happened to her, and I hope she found another home. 😢 It still hurts. I missed her so much.

I wont be getting a second cat as mine doesnt like me petting or showing attention to any who visit. He himself belonged to someone. Was neutered. Buy used to visit. Then one day showed up, refused to leave. Slept in our backyard a month in rain and sun. After 1 month I let him in as he was getting attacked by others.

My family once 'had' a cat who led a double life. He began visiting us regularly, and eventually stayed for days or weeks at a time, only to also disappear for similar periods of time. I think we eventually somehow found out his ‘regular’ family lived on a neighboring island, and that he would get on a small ferry to travel between them and us.

A sad story...My neighbors, and us somewhat out in the sticks were pretty nice people but the man was a drunk, and let's just say they were a bit less refined than most which is fine but such things can result in difficulties. Meaning their dogs were the same as them. He had shown me his 6 toed kitten so when he found his way to my house, I realized it was his and life was likely rough on him in their noisy kaotic environment. I wanted to keep him especially when he seemed so relieved and peaceful cuddle up and sleeping with me in a very quiet environment, but I wanted to do the right thing. Gave him back and some time after, and we all know how kids are, they told me the gory details on how their two dogs got a hold of him and the outcome was about as bad as it gets....don't even want to describe it... though it was nearly 50 years ago it still haunts me. I will never again return an animal to anyone who seems the least but incompetent...never. I may even steal the animal for its own good. I stupidly let the little guy down and that's pretty damned incompetent in it self, however, did I ever learn my lesson. As the video states, definitely stress that caused the kitten to leave Shit, now that will be playing out in my head for at least the rest of the day.

We moved in our home ten years old. Two weeks after we moved in on a stormy winter night with snow, cat came to our door meowing. We opened the door and let her in. She was pregnant had babys month later and we found good homes but we kept moma and one of her babies. Well a year later naboors knocked on our door saying we had their cat. Cops came and we had already had cat fixed and shots and chipped. Its been 11 years since that happened and QUEEN MOMA, AND PRINCESS JASMINE (momas daughter) are still with us and happy.

My cousins’ cat moved out and was found six months later living with an elderly couple four blocks away! Too much commotion at her original home! My parents, when they retired, acquired a part-time cat. My folks were his R & R outpost! My sister’s cat also moved in with me. She brought her over a few times and eventually put up a wild fight to put her in the carrier. So we decided she could just stay.

My Mom had a female Tabby (Mopsy) whom she raised from a kitten in Bremerton WA. After my conception, my Mom moved to So. CA leaving her feline friend with a friend to care for her. After 3-4 months, that same cat showed up at my Mom's new residence & had never been outside of Bremerton. The cat left her designated owner & somehow found my Mom. My Mom's friends wanted her to take her story to the local newspaper, but was afraid no one would believe her.

I had a cat years ago who liked to go outside. We lived in a semi-rural area. One night I let him out as usual, and he disappeared, never to be seen again. I don't think a car got him; from kittenhood on, he avoided them. We came to believe that a wild animal got him--we had foxes in the neighborhood. I don't think he was picked up by someone else; he was a one-person cat who would only let me touch him.

Growing up we had a Maincoon male and a female Siamese. The Siamese used to chase Matchbox cars on my track set up I had in the living room. Muffin would watch intently to when I launched them, and she would eyeball the cars as they came around the track. Then, when they would jump in the air from the bridge piece, and fly to the next track section, Muffin would bat them out of the air. sometimes she would hit it wrong and shook her paw from the hit to make it stop hurting. She had so much fun with the Matchbox track.

homie3461 Three reasons to keep my cats indoors: 1. I feed the birds and chipmunks and adore them so no killing of them from my cats. 2. we live by a VERY busy road so no kitties outside, don’t want them squished. 3. Coyotes near our house are heard almost daily (nightly) so no kitties outside to become coyote snacks.

I'm so lucky. I adopted a mother cat (she was quite feral) with her 2 kittens. I live on a main road so I was worried about their safety. Heaven knows why, but they NEVER ventured on to the road. All three cats will sit out the front, at the roller door, but never go across the road. The only place they go is to the next door neighbor's, where they torment the dog (a little Jack Russell) as they walk past the glass door! As I said, mum was feral and her kittens knew no better, but still, they're safe. I hope it stays this way. I have friends that adopted a mother cat (while still pregnant), and just after she had the kittens she disappeared. The kids had to feed the babies to keep them alive. I know the whole family was devastated, but never knew what happened to her. I want to cry just thinking about it.

Made her an isolated box, with straw, to keep warm and attached a label to her collar with my phone number, with the question whether she belonged to someone. I never worried about him, his father was a feral bada*s and when we played he pulled no punches so I knew he could hold his own. Sadly he wanted out one night and I let him out. Normally he'd be waiting on the front porch in the morning to come in. But on that following morning he wasn't on the chair sleeping like he normally was waiting to come in. The chair was moved and a potted plant knocked over. He was nowhere to be found. No fur, no blood no anything. Just... Gone. I called into work for the next two days to walk the 600 acre ranch I lived on to find any trace of him. Nothing. I'll never know what happened to him. I miss that little dude so much.

Our cat Conan adopted several families that live on the street behind us. We raised him from a kitten, got him fixed at six months, fed him dry, canned and rotisserie chicken daily. He grew to be a happy cat two year old cat until the day we brought home a couple of homeless kittens. He went into a rage when he saw them, hissing and growling. He demanded to be let outside, knocking everything over if we didn't oblige. He even pulled off the wooden blinds on one of the windows.. We figured that in time, he would come to accept the kitties. Nope. He acted like a wild cat seeking revenge. Since we kept a tracker on his collar (along with an id tag and being chipped), we discovered that he has four other homes now on the street behind us. He uses their pet doors and sleeps at night in bed with two of them. He still comes around to visit and be petted, but refuses to come in. We drop off cat food here and there to these neighbors. One sweet neighbor even added a new id tag, adding the name Coco to his name Conan. He kills all the rats around their homes, so he will always be known as Conan, The Barbarian. So grateful that he is loved by so many.

Tiger was such a cool cat, they were indoor-outdoor cats. Samber the mom ended up dying after getting hit by a car. She was a very bold cat. We believed she was a leader of a cat gang lol. So then we just had Tiger. He was very independent. He would come inside for a while hang out then leave. We would always have food for him but sometimes wouldn't eat it like he had already eaten. He was finally forced into a senior center. My cat was kind of depressed for a long while. The man was very kind to her

Great info, helpful. Lost two cats to big storms - they fled and, apparently, got lost - and one to illness; he chose to find a hiding place to fade away. Sad stuff, but in a way, it's the fee we pay for being able to love them for as long as we get to. (They were all feral cats that adapted to being indoors part of the time, particularly winter.)

I had a cat named Miya who always preferred to be outside. She'd find a way to escape the moment we opened the door. We lived in a gated community. She'd leave and come home to eat and sleep and get in some cuddling. One day she was hit by a car on her way back home. I cried for months and will never allow another one of my cats to leave the house.

We moved 160 miles west, across a mountain range and 3 rivers. Our Tom cat vanished two weeks after we unpacked. We figured a fox, snake or even an eagle had got him. About a month after that he turned up at our old neighbours house and moved in with them and their lady cat. (We got his chip registered to them, he was happy after all). Two years later I moved back east, not far from where we had lived, I bough my lady cat with me, not long after she made the journey back to my parents place, it took her a bit longer, but she was in good health. I left her there where she became boss over every thing, the dogs, the horses, the cattle and even the geese were her underlings!

I live in rural Cambodia, and keeping cats here is almost impossible. They always disappear. It's a combination of things: there are a LOT of mice, rats, squirells, lizards and other things to hunt so they don't need humans, but they can also be killed by wild dogs or get a disease. But if you lose a cat, you can guarantee another one will turn up. You end up with a kind of rotation of cats.

We have some dodgy people living in our neighbourhood and some absolutely hate cats coming into their yards. You can imagine the evil things some sick people can get up to, so not going to elaborate on that. There is also the risk of stray dogs mauling a cat to death, and we have in fact had a neighbour lose her cat in such a horrible way. Also, cats are territorial and regularly get into cat fights and one of our own cats unfortunately lost his eye like that. So the moral of the story is, if you live in a suburb, don't let your cat outside unattended. While it is important for them to chew on grasses and stuff, take them out on a cat harness and leash. You'll be amazed on how much fun it can be to let them take you for a walk in the backyard. 🐾

When I lived near Seattle there would be lost cat posters on telephone poles all the time. Those cats were never coming home because, usually they were taken by coyotes, yes, even in the city coyotes are everywhere at night. Packs of them have been filmed roaming the streets of Seattle at night. Also eagles and large birds of prey have been filmed with cats in their talons. I saw a documentary on Coyotes and they are everywhere these days, it's been estimated that there are over 20,000 in the city of Chicago. You may think your cat is a little tiger but those wild animals will have no problem dealing with your tiger. On KZfaq I saw a video of a coyote near Hollywood running down the sidewalk with two cats in it's mouth. So if you love your cat, please don't let it outside to roam.

Anyhow, I had a great dog "Koko" and Deuce was an indoor cat so I kept him that way. About 20 months ago I started letting him outside. He watched Koko for about 6 years go outside, do his business then come back inside over and over again. He actually learned that "I go outside then I come back". Unique situation I suppose but it worked. Sadly I had to put Koko down last July in his debilitating health.

Ohhhhh I lost a cat, Peow, I loved him… there was stress too, likely why he left. Much noise, hard times and he didn’t come home one day. His brother got out after an amputation and got lost, though when he Peow was gone months must have found or come across his brother Pootha. He bought his brother Pootha home, but would not stay though, as had already been gone 6 months. The next day as soon as he could leave he escaped, he did so and never came back. I’m grateful he bought back his disabled brother though. And after this a large cat run was built so the cats can be indoors or outdoors but were safe from dogs etc. as the missing cats brother had his leg amputated due to a loose dog coming into the yard. But Peow, he never come back and we could not find him. His amputee brother Pootha lived till 17 safe within the cat runs and the house. If you Love your cat, then make a run for them. We used a pergola and covered it with shade cloth. Later it got larger as at one end as a giant chicken wire chicken run was attached. It doesn’t have to be expensive cat mesh in fact that will not stop a dog getting your cat. Shade cloth cat run has been up about 15 years and the chicken run component 10 years. Lots and lots of room for little money. You can turn any verandah or patio pergola into a cat run with shade cloth. They will love you for it.

Build a catio, or if you have a yard, a catyard with high fences and overhang netting. Our four get supervised access to the catyard daily and 24/7 access to the upstairs catio that’s fully enclosed. It’s the best solution to give them outdoor access while preventing them from roaming the entire neighborhood and getting into any of the many dangers that lurk for them out there.

Please call before feeding a neighborhood cat that has a phone number on its collar... we adopted 2 street cats, a male and a female in different years. The female had a litter of 5 when we brought her in. She was subsequently spayed and roams the neighborhood at night but usually within a 60-yard radius and usually comes home on time. The male roams the entire neighborhood, maybe 1/2 mile radius. mostly during the day when the weather is not too hot. I track them with airtags. One day the male decided he wasn't going to go home. The airtag showed he was hanging around a neighbor's house about 500 yards away for 3 days, roaming as usual but always coming back to that house. So I went over to talk to the neighbor - they were feeding him and he was now living there and his roaming area shifted by 500 yards to their house. I politely asked the neighbor to stop feeding him and within half a day, he came home. If I didn't have the airtag on him, I would have thought a bobcat or coyote got him... ie, he would have likely just moved-in over there, and we would be left wondering what happened to the cat! I completely understand cat lovers who instinctively want to help a cat by feeding it, but if they have a collar with a phone number on it, please call before feeding! :)

I unfortunately live in Arizona, it is dangerous for cats to be outside. I sold my house of 28 years two years ago. There would be coyotes that would come on my street, when cats came to my house, I tried to catch them and take them to the rescue, but I was only able to get one. I have a cat myself, and she was only allowed outside with me on a leash. One night I heard a strange sizzle sound, I had just finished cooking, and was about to get up and see what was happening in the kitchen. My husband came in then from work and said there was a rattlesnake on the patio, and my cat was at the screen door. She was staring down that snake which was coiled in striking pose about 2ft from the screen door. She did not like when I made her get away. She was ready to protect her home. When the people came to remove it, they said it could easily have struck her through the screen, I was so happy it didn’t happen that way. They did tell me that it was smart to only let her out on the leash. I told them she used to like to go in the bush that was right by my door. They told me to never let her go in the bushes, even if she is on the leash and everything looks safe, because it is very dangerous. I don’t believe people should let their cats outside. I understand it is their nature to be outside, but it isn’t safe, there are evil humans that hurt cats too.

@kathleencove

@@user-lo7eo3nt6t Yeah this is why no pet should be left outside unsupervised. I get it if you’re on a farm and they’re farm animals, some people keep outdoor dogs and cats in that scenario, and I completely understand, they know the risks and have the animals not merely as a pet but for a farm purpose (like killing rodents to keep out of the corn without using as much chemical for rodents, or sheep herding in the case of dogs). So I’m not gonna give a farmer a hard time, they know the wildlife risks. But for the average pet owner who ignorantly romanticizes how “animals are part of nature” and let their pets roam outside… if you’re emotionally attached to your pet, don’t be surprised when they get sick or injured beyond repair or go missing. If you wouldn’t let your child roam around outside like that, don’t let your pet roam around outside like that. Yes they have instincts, but they actually aren’t as well adapted for outdoor survival as actual wild animals are. We’ve bred these breeds of cats and dogs for domestication, and they’re not biologically optimized for free-roaming outdoors without your supervision. Any harm that comes to them is your responsibility.
@kathleencove
@kathleencove 2 ай бұрын
@@user-lo7eo3nt6t Not to mention, even with instincts, those instincts don’t prepare them for being surrounded by trucks and vehicles that can run them over. It’s just sad to see how irresponsible and neglectful some people can be, and how they shrug off their irresponsibility like it’s no big deal. It’s a big deal that a life is harmed or suffers fatal injury because you don’t want to be responsible for a creature we genetically designed and you decided to adopt. Smdh at some people being so blasé about their animals going missing or acting like it’s a sad stroke of fate for themselves and not their own fault when it is.

One thing not addressed here is predation. Depending on the area you live in there are many animals that will eat cats. I had a beautiful Tabby that slept with me since he was born on my lap. Use the spoon with me every night and would often remind me that it was time to go to bed. He would follow me everywhere. As he got a little older he did tend to wander a little bit and had been gone for a week before but it was unusual for him to go off more than a day or two. The one time he disappeared for over a week we had discovered that a neighbor thought he was a stray and had taken him in and he only came home when she let him out. I only found this out when he actually disappeared and it had been weeks. No one in the neighborhood saw him and it was generally believed that one of the coyotes or Eagles that we used to see regularly had taken him. I tend to think it might have been coyotes because he actually really liked dogs. The neighbor that took him in for that brief amount of time had many dogs. He was raised around them and we're almost act like a dog with strange dogs and be friendly. I believe he let his guard down around coyotes and was made a snack of. I postpone moving for 3 and 1/2 months Hosanna as I could and then continue to go back and look for him and ask friends to continuously look for him for over a year at which time we finally gave up. This led me to make my other cats indoor cats and I now swear by microchipping. I will never allow one of my cats to go outside without a leash on or in a yard that they can't get out of using such things as a catio. I feel really bad cuz we grew up on a farm always letting our cats come and go as they please but they've turned into fat lazy indoor cats and really don't like going outside because the times that they have accidentally gotten out they always come in crying wanting reassurance that everything was okay. I feel bad that I've made all my cats agoraphobic by keeping them indoors but I'm glad because I never want to go through that again.
