I think US media did a good job in "overhyping" America and its lifestyle. To the extent that Americans themselves didn't see a need to look outside themselves.

What annoys Europeans the most is that Americans who come to Europe always compare everything to America. For example, they come to Paris, and when someone tells them how beautiful the city is, they respond by saying, "We have New York." They come to Croatia, to the stunning beaches near Dubrovnik, and they say, "We have California." It's quite arrogant behavior, as well as introducing themselves by saying, "I'm from America, everyone look at me. We are the strongest, richest, most beautiful. We, we, we..." Europeans, as well as Asians, are different. They respect others and stand behind their own countries, but they are also the biggest critics of the negative aspects in their own countries, not other countries'. Whereas Americans, 99% of the time, criticize other countries more and rarely or never criticize their own.

As a kid of the 90s myself, I‘ll try and explain the european view: As a kid american culture was fused into european culture through their technology (tv, playstation etc) and movie industry (like disney or sitcoms). So you learn early on that americans love branding other countries with their inventions and stuff and you know they’re a big global player and pretty influential. But you didn’t know about their lack of knowledge about us, like as europeans we are raised traveling to other countries each summer, knowing other cultures and politics. The US just is very unaware about the rest of us and a lot of times on purpose, thinking every other country has to be like theirs or it’s not important enough. I get it though, your country is huge and your educational system doesn’t teach you enough about it. Hence most people call americans arrogant, weird and uncultured. Not everyone is like that ofc but that’s the stereotype I think.

Yo Canada is bigger than the US and I bet Canadians are more knowledgeable about the world than the Americans, generally speaking. Ultimately it's about personal choice. I was taught through movies, music etc that america was the greatest country in the world and then as i grew older, reality hit. It's not the greatest country in the world. 121 countries in the world have freedom. I have issues with USA politics because, despite everything or how we view america from the outside, it's still a huge political player on an international level and has so much influence on what course other countries in the west will take. When the whole ordeal about ROE V WADE happened, it made my small country's (belgium) politicians look at our women health laws, including abortion and the debate started to make it a constitutional right in case anyone in power next, wanted to come after it. And i personally, look at the USA in shock. I love the majority of americans, and you always have the exceptions. I have a lot of american friends and I want you guys to have the same rights that i have and the usa could afford it, it's still the richest country in the world but the mere fact that it chooses not to hurts me in the core of my soul. I dont want anyone to go homeless because of medical debt, i dont want anyone to die because they cannot afford live saving meds, etc... I cannot handle that kind of mentality. I think that it should all be human rights and not what the usa calls "benefits"

I (German) have met different types of Americans (tourists) in Germany. From friendly and chilled out to very rude. I got on well with most of them, but there were also some who complained loudly in Cologne at the Cologne Cathedral because German was spoken in Germany and they didn't understand anything. They actually demanded that all Germans speak English when they were around. I stood there like, "WTF? What's wrong with them?" What many Germans in my environment don't like about (many) Americans is the loudness, acting too quickly like a close friend and that they usually don't care much about many important issues (other countries/cultures, environment, waste prevention, etc.). Many Germans also find American tourists often quite arrogant and self-centred. It often happens that people complain because the American visitors basically assume that everything is better in the USA than elsewhere in the world and that Americans can do everything better. I don't know how many times I discussed with Americans that there is a difference between a socialist country and a social-democratic country. For them, both were the same and they didn't let themselves be dissuaded from that. But most Germans don't hate Americans... they don't like other things like how health care is handled there or the school system or the political leaders/parties and so on.

In Europe and other parts of the world the US is seen as a beacon of economy and possibility. That view is created through movies, music, products and celebrities. When people from around the world become older and start seeing the US outside of the perfect portrayal in movies and so on, they realize how wrong that portrayal actually is.

Apart from military strength America is over hyped in every aspect of life. I live in UK & can tell you even though our health care is not the best compared to other European countries, America's health caree is backwards. In the UK, there is free health care for children below 16 years, pregnant women, pensioners and unemployed. You don't have to pay for ambulance service in emergency. You don't have to buy medication for your kids if not working g because it's free.

People are people but cultural differences matters. There are major differences between the USA and my home Country (Germany) as you can find out by research from Trompenaars's model of national culture or the ground work done by Hofstede. The USA stands out in aspects to indulgance (the freedom on an individual is highly prioritize over retraints by the many) respectively Individualism vs communitarianism. Let me give an example on this. If you want to have a party generating or want to mow yor lawn on Sunday morning at lot of noise your neighbours might have trouble to relax or even sleep. The American way does not restrict the individual. As a result Americans are much louder and noisier and do take into account the needs of others. This "Me"-culture is highly frowned upon. So if Americams are in a restaurant or a train together with Germans (or other people form Northern Europe) they will be heard and disliked easiliy by the other guests. Also, what is deemed as confident behavior in the US comes of as over the top bragging here in Germany. One example where you can see this is in the NBA. Nikola Jokic is rated by the US media and many US fans as very - or even too - humble while he is showing only standard behavior from his home country (Serbia). On the other hands statements from Joel Embid like "I think I am the best" which are totally acceptable in the USA would be regarded as arrogant in Germany (you can say this after you have proven something not before). Furthermore, the reputation of the USA in Germany was plummeting from 76% of Germans having a favorable view on the US in 2000 to as low as 26% in 2020. The actions of the Bush and especially Trump admistration were mostly responsible for this. With Biden this has improved (Icheck out the data from the Pew Research Center) a bit. Nevertheless, many Germans share the view that the USA is a self-proclaimed world police and interferes far too much in internal affairs of foreign countries. Since Americans elect their government it is understandable that this rubs off on the image of US citizens. Germans do not like Bullies. Recently the USA reputation is increased because of the Russia-Ukraine war and the massive support by the USA. It was a wake-up call for many Europeans that they relied on the believe that they can reason with Russia without having the military power. The US came again to help - of course this is in here interesst - but, never the less, we much more prefer the American bullies over the Russian bullies. Please note: I just want to explain and not to judge. There are universal rights (human rights) valid for all societies. The rest is up to the society. If the Americans like their way of doing things, then this is fine with me as long as the do not impose their rules to other which they unfortunately do, but Europeans did and still do this as well, also to a far lesser extent. Furthermore, if you travel to another country do yourself a favor an learn the differences. Don't behave like you own the place.

I am Gen X, born in America to a German mom and American dad but he immigrated from Albania as a child. But I spent 3 months out of each year in Germany with my Oma and Opa (grandparents) 80's and early 90's. I was lucky to have my grandparents pay for my tickets, otherwise along with ALL of the friends I knew I would not have travelled out of the US as a kid at least - my single mom did not have the money. That is a big reason that Americans don't travel overseas and it's sad too that a lot of people generally do not have the interest, but maybe it is because they hadn't done it yet to get the travel bug. I took my boys for the first time to Germany last year and now they can't wait to go again next year, and they want to travel to other countries when they are older. The only other Country I have been to is England, but my cousin that lives in Germany has been to most of the Countries in Europe along with Thailand, Vietnam and Ethiopia. It is a lot cheaper flying within or from Europe than from America, plus Europeans have more vacation days. I am lucky to work for a large Company that has unlimited PTO as long as you can manage your work. When I went to Germany last year, I was there for 30 days, next year I will go again for 30 days and hopefully this time around we will fit in a couple 3-day trips to other countries while we are there. And yes over the years I have noticed the change in attitude towards Americans. My daughter lived in Germany for 2 years when my mom moved back to Germany, this was in 2006. Poor kid has an Arabic name, is from America and had the hardest time in the transitional school. There was a Russian and a French kid that taunted her for being American. I explained why they may have been doing that, the history behind it and that she should not take it personally. She made a lot of friends though from different countries, she had a good time, and it was very hard for her to come back to America when my mom passed.

Hello from Germany 🙂. I think the people dislike the American political behavior not the people self. I grew up in the 1980th under very strong influence of American popcultur ( TV series, music.... etc.) and the knowledge of the great help after worldwar 2 to rebuild our country. Today I am working for an american carsupplyer company and the only profit matters mindset is very disappointing. The messages about racism, violence, drug problems, homelessness and political instability scares me. It feels like the big brother is going crazy 😢. But the people I met and I am working with are nice people.

I can’ lie. I grew up here in Africa in the 2000 watching and listening to usher, beyionce, diddy, and others. It was all about the culture; the coolness😂, everybody wanted to walk, to be or live like a black American in those music videos. Of course we learn and know about slavery and the fact that some communities and black people are still struggling over there. But the culture was the thing. Then i grew up. You learn more, social medias, less curated medias ( not on l’y the good stuffs reach out)n violence, war int others countries, segregation, food, ego,…and i was like ….No thank you😂. I feel like it can be amazing to visit for 2 weeks only. Bcoz from the way Us medias curated their country, it can looks like Disneyland. But like Disneyland you soon understand that the mouse isn’t real and that you are minus 100.000 dollars in your bank account😂😂. But i like the people though. They are great. This is a complex topic. I can speak for my friends and myself only, here in Germany. The perception of the US depends much on how educated and interested you are, on your level of English skills, on the fact if you have ever been to the US yourself. I have been to 42 out of 50 states, and I always say that I have seen more of the US than the average American has. America is a very diverse country! That's the first fact that people in Europe have to understand. There are also real differences: "Fox News" is a show. That concept is alien or weird to Germans. The news are fact-checked pieces of information. The news don't lie to you. If a presenter gives their personal opinion, it's marked as "comment". After having understood that "Fox News" isn't the same like the news in Germany, the second question is: Why would you have such a weird show anyway? -- Topics that regularly come up are: crazy with weapons (just make them illegal like everywhere else on earth; and read your 2nd amendment: weapons shall be regulated!), abortion, gay rights, cultural imperialism dominating globally, Republicans gone insane (Marjorie Traitor Greene, Ron Desantis, that crazy liar representative, I forgot his name), Trump the worse president (incompetent, uneducated, and as a businessman he went broke twice and had to be rescued by a German bank - He didn't ran the US like a company, but with nepostism. The rest is false propaganda. And that man had golden shower adventures in Moscow, crazy!). There are many more points, but I guess that you get the picture. And that almost all people from different European countries share the same points of view speaks volumes. -- Let me end with something positive: Americans are usually nice people, always ready to help others in need. And you got amazing nature. Sometimes, Americans don't realize how beautiful your huge country is.

I am a Malaysian. We generally do not hate Americans. We love to meet and welcome Americans or any foreigner that comes to our country. We love American media and consume it on a daily basis. What I see people don't really like is the foreign policy and internal politics of the US. Due to social media, we can see the degradation of certain aspects of American society that were advertised otherwise in media. So there's a small amount of disappointment. I am of the group of people that especially do not like American military actions in other countries. They perform horrible things in the name of democracy and freedom, causing the destabilization of several countries to defend "US interests". Then arrogantly dare to talk down on other powers for similar actions. I'm not saying the US shouldn't do anything. I'm just saying they don't have any moral standing to criticize other countries' actions. In my personal opinion and conclusion, your people may be lovely and great. But your government is highly crooked and arrogant. We don't hate American people, we mostly hate the government sometimes.

However, since social media brought the negatives about the US into our lives it's difficult not to develop negative opinions. Mass shootings and the gun culture, the crazy health system, the aggressive and violent police, the totally corrupt political system, the poor education system, the huge number of homeless people, the enormous gulf between rich and poor. I could just keep listing more and more negatives. I can't remember the last time I saw a positive story about America. Most of the Americans I have talked to were ok (well one guy from Florida I met in Montego bay was a bit strange) Its those that are in congress and their actions are what I dislike. The ones who some would call batsh** crazy are the ones who give The US a bad rep

We should not pretend that American people are very different from European people. Almost everyone wants a peaceful life, enough food, no discrimination, a nice job and security for themselves and their children. And in the implementation of all these things there are some differences in approach between Europe and the US. But I don't think that means that we as Europeans should have a negative view of the American people. It is "the American system, the way of life" that we as Europeans struggle with. But the vast majority of Americans are just lovely people who are just trying to struggle through life :-)

As a kid of the sixties, growing up I thought the States was cool, in seventies & eighties when I spent a lot of time in, the States working, the people were warm, welcoming, generous and kind. America seemed to me to be a country populated by optimists. When I was last there in 2018, I was disappointed, where has all the kindness gone, have you lost your optimism? Mind you I was in New York 🤔

I don't want to be rude, but "I had TV diners" isn't really any better than "McDonalds". As for time... it is quicker for me to whip up a meal of potatos, veggies and meat/fish/other protein that going to McD, wait in line, and have crappy food. As for TV diners... if they are anything like the Microwave menus we have here (and I suspect they are, maybe even worse as they allow stuff in there that is banned overhere)... Sure the ping thing is quicker (slightly) but the home cooked meal is better. Making your own doesn't have to take hours, it can be done in 30 to 45 minutes. Most of the time used with that is waiting (giving you time to study, or play a game, or do the laundry... whatever) That former POTUS of your country (And I highly doubt you two voted for him) has destroyed a lot of goodwill and the fact that even now he is still not in jail and even still elligable to run for a next term is simply baffling to most of us. That would never be accepted in my country (I am Dutch btw). Things like being "the greatest nation on earth" and the mindset many of your fellow Americans have of "we are the only country that has freedom" (You don't, not by a long shot) while your are killed by police or while at school... it all has contributed to the fact that many people see America as a joke right now. Personally, I know a whole lot of Americans, some of my very best friends are. I know the majority of you are friendly, honest, hardworking (to hard maybe) people. But your politics and way of capitalising on every frigging thing has given you a very bad..uh... after taste. As someone from the 1960's, yes Internet did make it more visible, but this has been going since before we had internet. I mean, we had things like CNN and NBCinternational before we had internet. We saw the "American news". Internet made it worse, but it isn't the cause.

I did say Creole food. I wasn't talking about processed food. Tv dinners as in homemade meals locally sold to stores (jambalaya, gumbo, rice dressing and baked chicken, etc.), beloved.

@@TheDemouchetsREACT You did :) That is why I wondered if it was comparable to the microwave diners I know (called Magnetron Menu in the Netherlands). I am not familiar with Creole food but heard good things. I am familiar with food from places like Suriname and Curacao and Indonesia so I imagine it is similar to the take aways from those. If you ever get the chance, a good Roti or Moksi Meti (Surinamese) is something I think you might like. Or a Bami with Satay (Indonesian).

As African we don't dislike or hate Americans we love America the culture and politics are the problem everything is politics in America and the culture is either extremely morale or extremely the opposite. Especially with the phobia culture it's crazy. Making traditional families a target to media attacks. Democracy is the voice of the majority but in America is not quite not that.

Which part of Africa are you from Anna? I ask because you are speaking for the whole continent, like 54 countries as if you actually know what goes on in other people’s minds. It is better to speak as an individual and what you like or dislike because some people have a totally different view from yours even in your country some people will say something different from yours.

I think the over curation of America by American media is primarily the reason why people don't think America is as cool as everybody thought (I'm generalising here). But just to give you perspective, we use to watch MTV Cribs in South Africa. Images of 20 year olds & teenagers giving a walkabout their incredibly large & luxurious houses. Them, as young as they are living the American dream. Oh how shiny, everybody wanted a piece of that. Until we start learning in depth about the world around us. I mean South Africa is not perfect in fact we're not known for being perfect but we're known for our realities. What you see is what you get. We did not get the chance to curate a narrative & that is the difference I think. The perception has changed because the world now knows that all the MTV Cribs & Pimp My Ride is fake and a facade. What's even more appalling are the realities America is not putting in the spotlight like the homelessness or how prisoners "work for free" (basically slavery) contracted by the government under private prisons etc etc.

I particularly think that America is a great Country, most of the Americans will go out of the way to just offer help to random people. Some countries can violate a stranger publicly, which will never happen in America, the good Americans will never allow it. But there are some Americans who think that they are better than everyone.

However, I no longer visit your country at all. 🤷🏼‍♀️ a shame because there are many things I’d like to see still. It’s interesting to see what other folk think but We all have our ‘feelings’ and they aren’t always based on fact. I just crave intelligent thought and a realistic view of things. Its again about stereotypes and/or prejudice.. we have those in europe altso! Its truth that "americans" is wieved differently becuse of president in power and altso popular films/TV shows! And there is more to it.. after WW2 US introduced "the american way of living" in there occupation zone, to put the Nazis down and the comunists out! They forget to take this lesson back home!? Another misstakes.. an Irsihmen did have a visit of a US older relative women, and he introduced his Irish friend, that was black, the US women corrected him, he is refered as "african american", he didnt spoil there conversation! But the guy was born in Ireland, hes parents comes frome Africa, neither of them have ever put a foot in USA.. he was an Irishmen! Dont ever take your prejuidice with you when you travel! Rather travel abroad to learn more.. meet others that not always is like you.. learn a bit.. we can always learn frome others!

My PERSONAL opinion: in the beginning as a child I had a better opinion of the lifestyle & politics of USA. Land of the free, guns, cars, etc. The more I learned of what the politicians and military of USA did to get oil , to provide cheap oil elsewhere, the worse I think of the country of USA, not necessarily all individuals. BUT: for a DEMOCRACY I have to ask: are the politicians represent the will of the majority of the people? (rhetorical question!) Plus: are two political parties enough to represent all shades of topic… the world is not just black and white. ___ the US should take a closer look to other democracies (what this video IS DOING ❤) and pick the best ideas and implement them at home, to BETTER the USA. That means to get RID OF THE FEAR of ‚communist ideas‘ , take a REAL LOOK on the PROS AND CONS, and don’t let idiotic politicians tell you, what they SELL you (in THEIR interest) is best.

there is a difference between wanting to be successful and putting money over humanity. people outside US don't hate the US citizens, the individuals. But the politics is badly viewed. The new GOP, Trump culture, thinking you are the leader of the free world (free world didn't elect the US), taking guns rights over human rights, overly freedom of the individual over collectivity, thinking that helping others is being a communist (think, healthcare) ...

I think it depends where Americans come from. The politics and egotism shocks us. However this is probably contentious but Black/ African Americans are very different to some of the white Americans. Family life, how children are brought up with manners and respect. All of this is on a par with the UK and Europe. There is less cultural difference between Black communities and for sure British communities. Children aren’t spoilt and manners matter.

The reality is that a lot of people in Europe are miserable. So seeing Americans being happy annoys them. I'm Brazilian and we as a people are also very very warm and outgoing. But I've been in the UK for 15 years now and people here can be miserable for no reason. It's so weird. They have every reason to be happy and yet choose be cold and distant. The worst part is that because I've been here for so long I've had to adapt and become cold and distant myself. But I never lost my happiness and excitement for life.

Well depands who you ask , I' live in europa for most my life . Not originally form here but lived here for most my life , ( that is the Netherlands)In my youth I used to have a lot of American friends , who's parents were in the US military but stationed over here . And I used to get along with them better z, then the native Dutch people , maybe because I'm originally from the carribean. I don't know 😕 🤷🏽 Only thing negative about my old US friends is that they had a certain arrogance, but it's not on purpose . It's just they used to everything being big large and extra Example ( during road trips the constant remarks like ohh this isn't like a real highway. ) Belittling everything but again usually it was not on purpose
