Yes and let me tell you, being on keto for 3 years, keeping off 20 pounds for that long, and being told by my doctor that my fasting glucose is too high (101) and I should consider lowering my carb and processed food intake. I don't know how to reduce it from less than almost nothing. It makes me want to punch a doctor in the face.

When I started Ketovore in earnest 6 weeks ago my BG reading leveled off into the high 70s. But then I noticed more dawn effect if I eat more than one meal per day. Reduced my fat and protein intake. Eliminated coffee and drinking nettle plus chamomile tea before bed and nettle only in the morning. Within three days my average BG is down in the low 80s!

Trying to go back keto and my body is not having the simple 20-30g of carbs per day. Fasting glucose is 100-110 and stays all day. Love your videos and you just touched on a problem I am trying to reverse without success. Adaptive glucose sparing or perhaps starvation-induced pseudo-diabetes. To keep it short... almost 17 years on Keto (to prevent clogged arteries) Did a 164 day water fast 6 years ago and noticed after I only needed to eat 3 maybe 4 meals a WEEK. Don't eat eat more then a small piece of meat and some spinach salad for a meal. I do eat butter for a snack and might eat a handful of my fried walnuts/Brazil nuts/hazel nuts on a non meal day Did that for 6 years all the while running a cottage resort on 5 sloping acres to a lake. Very active every day. I now have very low fasting insulin and slow to respond. I have tried eating 150g carbs for 3 days, eating 3 meals in a day for two weeks, increase my caloric intake in general and nothing is kicking my insulin system into gear. After a 3rd visit to an Endo he kicked me out and said he only had time to help people who can not control their glucose levels. I am using fasting acting and over night slow acting insulin if I want to eat even close to "normal" Any idea if this is reversible.? Oh I did convince the Endo to subscribe the Gad antibody test which he has never done and he claimed it came back inconclusive

I have been on Keto for about 6 months. At night when I go to bed my glucose at about 1 am is about 87. I fast from 10 pm till 1 pm. Then I test my glucose and I am at about 100 from the dawn effect. Mine is later than others. After I eat about an hour later a keto meal I will be back to about 90. My blood sugar is very stable from Keto. My A1c was 5.8 in July 2020 and as of end of Sept. 2020 my A1c was 5.2. I am 62. Lost 20 pounds of fat so far and 3 inches off major body parts. My skin looks great. I wrote this to give others an example to have a comparison.

Thanks for you inputs. My thoughts on this are from my own personal experience as well as others I watch online. As far as Protein causing possible glucose spikes it seems there are too many Carnivores now who do not see Protein as an issue so that kinda casts doubt on just how excess/too much Protein might be an issue. And I might add the concept that Gluconeogenisis is a demand driven process thus only takes place when the body "needs" added glucose. Of course when that might be comes in to question. I am a recovering T2D(IF) using mostly carnivore myself. Wearing a CGM has illustrated some interesting things for me. One of which is I can see my fasting glucose numbers slowly rise over days and it typically takes an extended fast(48-60 hrs) to lower those numbers back down to where I am comfortable again. Even lower dawn effect numbers. It has been suggested to me to try carb cycling but so far the jury is still out as if that if helping me out or not. For example when I feel my numbers are good I usually dip down into the 50's and 60's(blood glucose) at night during sleep. When I wake I might go to the 80's. Fat coffee will raise that to the 90's but will quickly come back down to the 80's. I can eat a ribeye steak and see my numbers rise to 100-105. But without an extended fast those same numbers slowly creep up about 15-25 points. Again this is my personal experience and might be different for others metabolism.

Sometimes a high BG reading can be due to not getting enough blood in the strips. Or sometimes just bad strips where the top was inadvertently left open a bit too long. Or just a bad strip. Which is why the ones that are individually packaged can be more reliable.

Tested back in the middle of August and my fasting insulin level was 6.0 uIU/mL and fasting glucose was 108 mg/dL, so my calculated Homa-IR is 1.6. This is above optimal, but below the threshold of early insulin resistance, according to what you show on this video. So I guess I'm doing ok. I've been carnivore-ish for a year and a half. My blood glucose is "almost always" in the 105 - 115 range, regardless of the time of day, fasting or not (unless I eat some carbs). One thing interesting is that, sometimes if I eat some carbs in the evening, the next morning's fasting glucose is down in the mid to upper 90's!

I struggled with the dawn effect for quite a while. I started checking my sugars at 2 or 2:30 in the morning for my fasting values. I always gained 20-30 pts by 6am, I now attribute that to cortisol and the dawn effect. Your explanation agrees with my ideas, its good to hear some acknowledgment. With a strict Keto diet and intermittent fasting I have eliminated Insulin and got down to high school weight, a little more to go. Thanks for your time and experience.

Because of a type 2 diabetes environment on my system (above 200 blood glucose waking up), I started the keto diet radically. I am facing 104 blood glucose empty stomach just after getting out of bed and the normal used to be 70-75. Sometimes 82, 85. I'm on keto for about 3.5 years and started to lift heavier. Thanks for a calm and collected description of this issue. I wonder if high blood glucose that is not caused by pathological insulin resistance is damaging to the body? If so, knowing you have it through one (or more) of the other reasons might suggest that taking a little carbohydrate immediately on waking would lower your levels sufficiently by creating some insulin to avoid damage without contributing to eventual pathological insulin resistance. A croissant with your first coffee might be sufficient. What do you think?

Now that this video has been out for more than a year, there has been time for plenty of comments to be made. And many of these comments are saying the same thing: Being low carb at first is great for blood sugar, but then the blood sugar starts to go back up. And stays up. This has been my experience as well as many others. I am now so invested in keto and carnivore that it is challenging to learn my way out of it. 4 years ago when I got started on the low carb, my blood sugar was usually right around 95 or lower. And I could feel it! My eyesight was SO CLEAR. I was reaping the benefits!! But all of that has changed and no matter what I do, my blood sugar will be 115 at its lowest. I have been seriously considering chunking this "diet" and adopting a low fat moderate carb moderate protein diet.

I heard about the dawn effect on another channel with the suggestion that it might be better to check my blood glucose and hour or two after I meal. I did that and it has nearly always been right near 120, right where it should be that long after having eaten. If fact the last time I had a fasting blood glucose test before a physical was a couple of years ago and then it was around 110.

Thank you for this. I have a question. Yes, I am on keto and my morning readings are high. They are very good during the day, even right after meals. How long will it take to get to normal morning readings with keto and fasting 18hrs? My doctor is pressuring me to get on Metmorfin. My A1C is 6.5 after 20 years of prediabetes.

I keep my total carbs well under 50g a day with my net carbs typically under 20g a day. When I first started keto I noticed my ketones were at 1.0 or higher. After about 9 months of keto I notice that I'm in and out of ketosis several times through the day even when I'm fasting 16 plus hours. I have dropped 40 lbs. and haven't gained any of it back. My glucose is pretty stable and low throughout the day. Any thoughts?

So if one's pancreas is a little bit "lazy" after being keto/ketovore for almost 2 yrs... does that mean we're getting a negative impact of glucose being in mid to high 90s most of the time & goes up some after eating for about 2-3 hrs.

There are so many possibilities affect higher blood sugar how do you know? I’m very active and fit but have been stuck dropping the last 10#. I’ve been fasting and low carb but not seeing results so I started checking my blood. My blood sugar is higher and sustains until I break my fast. My ketones slowly increase. Does this mean I should be concerned of Prediabetes?

It seems my dawn effect started appearing around 1 year after I started low carb. It wasn't very high but the last few months it's went up a little. Beat Diabetes (YT)mentioned nuts have a slow decrease in glucose readings . After reaching my goal I eased back into a peanut snack late at night and I understand nuts have a long curve on glucose and slow to drop and that may be the cause in my case. Just read it yesterday so we'll see. Good this morning but I fasted yesterday so I'll see in a few days by not eating nuts after lunch. Glad to see your video. I may fit into any of the reasons you mention, protein, etc. Also Covid came about the time my morning glucose eased up so it may be mildly stress related, glad you mentioned this. Thank for your post.

So when you say high? What is that number. My sister gets 200 fasting blood sugar even though she has lost weight and following keto to a T with intermittent fasting. She feels great and with good levels but this number is worrisome. I told her to get her A1C and if that looks good then these high numbers on the meter may not be so worrying.

I'm very frustrated I through diet got my blood sugar into the 90 A1C was very good 5.5. And then lately I started to have seriously low blood sugars particularly at night. So I stop my glipizide and things went back to normal. Then in the past few days my blood sugar has been staying in the 140 to 150 and I started up the glipizide and it's not working now. I can't get back to normal readings in the 90s. What can I do? Very frustrated 😡

I've been on and off keto a few times over the past decade, always did really well on it, never had sugar problems. In fact, whenever I'd test my own sugar or have bloodwork drawn, my glucose would always be around 70-80, and my A1C always tested around 4.5-5.0. This time around, I had my blood tested for the first time in three years and discovered I'm diabetic. At the time of the blood draw, I had been on keto for exactly one full week, and my glucose came in at 164 and my A1C was 8.2. I'm resisting my doctor's attempts to medicate me and alter my diet (he thinks I need to eat more fruit and take several drugs) because I know keto will eventually reverse the whole situation. I may need to find a new doctor, though, and there are precisely zero keto-friendly doctors in my area. I see several months of medical frustration in my future.

Thank you so much for sharing - I have been following KETO OMAD for 12 months and had great health benefits. I am now a healthy weight and I feel great. I do struggle with my sleeping, I wake up every day between 03h00 and 04h00, no matter whether I am on holiday or on a work day. I have dinner between 16h00 and 18h00. I have no light pollution in my bedroom, I religiously have 1 hour before bed with no electronic equipment, I go to bed between 22h00 and 23h00. I do not take any alcohol or caffeine (after 13h00) and fall asleep easily. Does anyone have a similar experience? Perhaps even overcame it?
