But the poverty factor was not the only point made in the study, it also mentioned the possibility of the girl contracting diseases and having complications from pregnancy at an early age. Plus a couple of the other factors, but that was the main one that everyone brings up because it affects the young girl the most out of all of them.

I spent 18 years of my life in Nigeria. I did chores and stuff fetched water from a wells; carrying a 5 or 6 gallon buckets on each side and walk quite a distance and have watched my siblings. I have never seen genocide or anything like that but I can say that a 3 year old girl can never, a 3 year old whether boy or girl can never ever do what I did. In under 15 minutes a camel can drink 53 gallons of water. Mind you I was doing this around 14 or 15 as a young man.

The point I think he would have made is that if you admitted that there is an exception to harm, it’s disingenuous to condemn child marriages in EVRY AND ALL situations. Hadith actually attenuated an even greater evil from the Quran. 3 month period for those who have not yet menstruated (S65:4) But there is no waiting period if the man had not consummated (S33:49). If Muslims were not consumating little girls, there would be no reason to give them rules about 3 month waiting period before divorcing them. Muhammad Hijab explained it very well when he was arguing for importance of following sunnah at speakers corner. Without Aisha hadith, Muslims would be allowed to marry 5 year Olds and committing 'severe case of wife abuse' marrying girls who have not yet menstruated. I recommend you google video: "The Extreme Consequences of Believing Quran Only." If you are Quran only, you can do this whether you are aware of this or not and whether you agree with this or not, and even whether you believe it or not. Of course, it's very good of you if you decide not to do it even though you are allowed to but you have to be grateful for abbrogation of S65:4 by Aisha who gave Muslims an example to at least wait till the girl is 9. It will already greatly increase her chances of survival. So be happy she did that and don't knock it.
