tips in the video: 1. consistent playing 2. leave callouses alone when they’re being formed, they get tougher over time 3. take breaks!! 4. don’t push down on frets too hard 5. stay away from gadgets 6. get your guitar set up correctly (make sure action is low) 7. consider string gauge 8. improve fretting technique (5:45) :) hope dis helps

2:58 I’m a beginner on acoustic, and the only way I can make a nice sound is if I push down as hard as I can. I do tear up but the success on my progress gives me this healing feeling emotionally and essentially it evens out the physical pain I’m going through which encourages me to keep practicing/ learning.

When I first started I used a bit of a cheat to get them callouses going, dab the fingertips with rubbing alcohol after playing. It causes the skin to harden, thus, when I went to practice the next day I wasn't having to strain and I experienced very little discomfort. Worked for me, but your results may vary.

If your really in pain try a tiny drop of super glue on your finger tips it creates a layer of hard skin till u wash them again used to really help me alot. Also using a lighter to lightly burn your finger tips it's strings a little but it keeps the finger tips rough and solid just don't burn your hand off

When I first started playing it hurt so bad, my fingers were all bruised because I was so determined to get chords right💀 It’s super painless to play now, given that I play every week at least. Keep bearing through the pain, give your hands a rest for a day or two but no longer than a week, you’ll get discouraged and it won’t be any easier to play next time you pick your guitar up!:)

I started playing guitar around 40 years ago on a beat up Willie Nelson trigger classical looking guitar ....strung with rusty bronze strings....ouch!!! I quickly learned that I had to keep my strings clean after I played and just play a lot to get over the calluses ..even pass the point when they would get dry and crack which was my case but I would sand them off with regular sandpaper.. sometimes I use some crazy glue just to try it out on my fingertips and those little tips really help and go a long way also a lighter touch on the strings that is a technic helper right there. Keep playing.

When I started playing the guitar at age 9, 26 years ago my fingers were so sore for the first two weeks! I almost have up but I had such a passion for music and the guitar was my all time favorite instrument! Once you get passed that first month of playing, the important thing to do is keep playing every day for at least 30 minutes (or longer if you like) building up those caliceus is important! I also started playing on an acoustic, then as I got older started playing electrical as well! My advice would be to start on an acoustic, you'll build up your hand and finger streangth due to a wider neck, and the strings are thicker making those caliceus build faster! Practice even if your fingers hurt, and have fun, because being able to play the guitar is awesome! Lol

Immersing the fingertips in chilled water helps a lot with sore fingers, also callus formation becomes faster Hope that helps ❤️

I have begun learning about 10 different times in as many years and always gave up after a few days due to my fingers hurting so bad! Now I am determined this is the time I'm going to stick with it.

I’ve been playing for a few years now, but I never seemed to form significantly sturdy calluses, just stronger skin. I’d like to note that I’ve been a competitive swimmer for a few years, and was in the water about 7 hours a day (I also work as a swim instructor). Due to corona, I stopped swimming, and like you said, my calluses instantly hardened, which is so interesting to me. I watched this video because I wasn’t sure if calluses this pronounced were normal, and low and behold they are LOL. Which is strange, because even before these reptile scales formed on my fingers, I didn’t really experience pain from playing for long amounts of time.

I just started to learn guitar from scratch 2 weeks ago. Been following your beginner guitar lessons. For how much time, how many times a day and for how many days should I practice each chord before moving on to the next chord? My fingers hurt but I make it a point to practice atleast 30-40 minutes a day, things are beginning to get much better now.

Sounds like you're on a good practice regiment. You can feel free to work on multiple chords per day if you like. :)
@Jerry102158

It will be helpful to practice the keys in a particular group example key of C, change chords between the keys then learn another one like the key of G changing chords between keys in that group, will help you with key changes, even if you just use one to two at a time, increasing the number of keys as you get the chords correctly you will gain speed at your own pace. You are alright with the time do not worry about it, but practice as much and as often as possible. It is better to practice twice a day 10 to 15 minutes than a plan of 10 hours weekly and no practice because of life issues interference with plan. You can do it! Patience and persistent will get you through.

Guitareo I've been playing guitar for maybe 8 months but more like 6 months.. took a break. Busy with school. And the chords I know so far are g, c, e, Em, A, Am, F(still learning) and d chord. Dont know if I'm on right track or not. Practice for about an hour or more each day. Is that good? Any tips?
@Finlan_32
@Finlan_32 6 жыл бұрын
Don't practice chords, your improvement will be slow and frustrating and you'll give it up. Practice songs (beginner acoustic guitar book) it should show you how to form the chords. Eventually after about a month your muscle memory and finger strength will increase and you will new much faster and quicker rather than practicing 1 chord at a time. Good luck in your guitar practice bro. (1.5 years of playing guitar)

The problem with callus is we grow them than we picked them, it's a annoying loop. Try putting a little bit of super glue on your finger tips and parts that touch the guitar. It's a little uncomfortable at first, but you won't feel the pain. Plus, you can peel peel if off after, it's a odd satisfaction to peel it.

I am just self learning, and like you said, getting past the hurt fingers are a right of passage. I quickly learned that toughening up those fingers are the real first step to learning the guitar. They never tell you that in any lessons or books or guides. That ought to be lesson one truth, your fret fingers are going to hurt -- they're suppose to.

Sheet music is not essential to learn for a beginner. Now you just need to learn the basic chords and scales and learn to play other songs and stuff like that.

In my early years, I used to play up to 6-hours a day. Many years later, I just started playing again after an incredibly long hiatus, and I feel like a beginner again with a lot of things that were almost 2nd nature to me. I also found out that playing 6-hours is almost impossible as there is now a giant blister on one of my fingers that is painful to touch. Massaging the blister gently helped reduce the pain, and your tip on elbow placement is a gem. Thanks for the video!

I had nerve problems and had to put my guitar aside for nearly 15 years, now it’s resolved and I’m learning to play again almost from scratch. One tip I’ve heard is to push your thumbnail on your fretting hand into the tips of the fingers just enough to feel it which will help build calluses. You can do it any time, just sitting down or driving or whatever. I’ve been doing it, I can’t really tell if it’s helping but I don’t think it’s hurting anything.

I have gone through three major finger stages this month. First was the initial soreness for about 10 days, then calluses started to build which led to a 24/7 numbness which was really nice. That lasted for about 10 more days. Now I am working on my speed between chords while guiding with the root finger. Then after a week or so the calluses started to come off in big chunks exposing new pink skin underneath. Now I am back to a little pain but not too bad....but now my shredded calluses are grabbing strings themselves and messing up my transitions! I guess this is some sort of stage I will have to work through until the next.
