Learn how to avoid muddy colours in watercolour, by understanding why it is so easy to loose that beautiful glow we all love. If your painting looks dull, find out if you are doing a few of these things, which are contributing to muddy, over worked paintings.
Muddy, doesn't mean muted or subtle. Muted paintings can still glow with light. Muddy is when the painting looks flat and dull and all the joy has been sucked out of it. You might also find my film on colour mixing helpful. I'll put a link at the end of this one or follow it here: • Colour mixing and theo...
Some artists say it is because you are using opaque colours or granulating pigments. The answer might be far simpler. From dirty palettes to over brushing, you can learn to keep your paints from looking muddy.

Each week I do a tip, trick or technique I wish someone had told me when I was learning to paint. Hope you enjoy this!

How many nice sketches have I destroyed by fiddling, lol! I know it's wrong, but most of the time I *just can't resist* going back into the wet paint. Thank you for pointing it out so clearly, that'll help. Love your humour. :-)

The one with not dry written beside it would make good rocks.

Great tips! That twisty palette will be great once you fill it with your own paints! You had mentioned in one of your videos, that you did a bit of book binding. Do you make your own sketchbooks? If so, I'd love to see how you do that. I purchased a cheap bookbinding kit from Amazon, because I saw a way to turn w/c pads or stacks of paper into blocks. If I can save even more money doing my own sketchbooks, that would be great! Thank you so much for all the time and energy you spend on teaching others! Love from the States! ❤️

So pleased you like the films and thank you for your kind comments. You are doing a brilliant thing working to rescue bulldogs. If you love them, I am sure that will show through in your paintings.
