But why don’t you have stabilizers that balance the bow rather than make it front heavy?
@ppeters77
@ppeters77 Жыл бұрын
Late answer.. anyway, the bow IS balanced, but for when it's at full draw. It is front heavy when no pulling force is applied to the string.
@Koudey
@Koudey 7 ай бұрын
The amount of weights on a stabilizer and how many are placed on each rod depend on the archer. If an archer’s grip is, say, bottom heavy like Mike Schloesser, he front-loads his rod (32 oz front, 18 oz back)
@thereefaholic
@thereefaholic 7 ай бұрын
@@ppeters77 would be interesting to see how that capture the weight at full draw. The downforce of the arrows weight would increase as it’s distance from center increases. It just seems like the speed those bows drop is caused by way more weight that that.
@ppeters77
@ppeters77 7 ай бұрын
@@thereefaholic At in my understanding, it's not really related to the arrows weight. The center of the bow is the throat of the handgrip, but the pulling force on the string is a bit higher, at the arrow nock. This causes a force where the bow want to rotate around the grip upwards. This upwards rotational force is higher for higher draw weights, hence why beginner bows not drop as fast/much.

Hm… Archers hundreds of years ago didn’t loose their bow after a shot. Some even shot sideways (Huns?) with deadly accuracy. Curious as to why it’s necessary in Olympic competition.
@kishenpankhania363

The accuracy of shooting traditional bows can't exactly be compared to that of modern recurve. Bear in mind, the target in the video would be a 40cm face diameter at 18m, or 122cm face at 70m, at both top level archers are consistently keeping everything in the gold at, yes traditional archers can be accurate, just even the best would not be to the same extent as a top modern recurve archer

What!? You didn't answer the main question, then - why do you not just grip the bow?
@FieldSobrietyTest6676
@FieldSobrietyTest6676 10 ай бұрын
He may not clearly said it, but you should not grip the bow because its not stable. If you deathgrip the bow, its harder to make it sit still, and in target shooting, you need every single stability you can get. So, you dont grip the bow, the bow will fall out of your hand, you use the finger sling, and the bow swing happened.
@MarkRLeach
@MarkRLeach 6 жыл бұрын
Yes... but there is more. By thinking about the bow 'after swing', it takes away thinking about the actual instant of the shot. The shot becomes one long acton: pull thru the clicker, loose, after shot swing. The exaggerated after shot sequence is part of the mental routine. Golfers do the same thing.
@taragwendolyn
@taragwendolyn 6 жыл бұрын
Nah, there's not really any exaggeration going on. If you're holding the bow right, you don't have a death grip on it. Even without stabilizers, the bow will jump forward out of your grip, and then lean backwards instead of forwards (because of how they're weighted w/o stabilizers). That isn't exaggeration, it's just what the bow does when your follow-through and grip are right, and you trust your sling. The mental check for me isn't whether the bow slips forward, it's whether the bottom limb hits the same spot on my thigh every time.
@MarkRLeach
@MarkRLeach 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly, you have a 'reference point' *long* after the shot. This stops the archer anticipating the shot.
@kalvinnoble488
@kalvinnoble488 6 жыл бұрын
Mark Leach How does this stop the archer from anticipating the shot? Shot anticipation occurs as soon as you start drawing your arrow back,set your draw hand to your anchor point, aim, release and follow through.
@MarkRLeach
@MarkRLeach 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly, the experienced archer thinks about the shot as "drawing your arrow back, set your draw hand to your anchor point, aim, release and follow through" while the beginner thinks it is all about 'aiming and letting go'. The 'aiming and letting go' approach is not smooth, and it can lead to a flinch at the moment of the shot.
@Nanorisk
@Nanorisk 5 жыл бұрын
"follow through" is not a process, rather a consequence, the shot process ends at release, anything after that is irrelevant because the arrow is long gone.

Real question.. why do hunters not do this? They want all the same accurate shot an want to take care of their equipment.
@mattjack3983
@mattjack3983 Жыл бұрын
Competition archers are taking many shots at their targets. The constant tension from gripping your bow, while holding up the weight of the bow and stabilizers, and pulling back an average of 50lbs every shot, will cause your grip and forearm to become exhausted after just a few shots, and torquing your bow during the shot becomes practically unavoidable. A hunter, on the other hand, is only taking ONE shot at his game. All day, that one shot is all he or she will take. And while accuracy is needed, the pinpoint accuracy that competition archery demands is not needed. As long as you hit vital organs..heart, lungs, liver..it's a good shot. You can be off by 2 or 3 inches and still deliver a clean and quick kill shot. In competition archery, being off by an inch can cost you valuable points. But that being said, many bow hunters DO choose to use a wrist sling, that serves the same purpose and function as the strings seen being used in this video. You don't actually have to let the bow swing either. You can easily just grip the bow after you loose your arrow and stop it from swinging. And when you are hunting, you dont have the room in a tree stand or blind to let your bow swing anyway. So to sum it up, hunters are only taking one shot, and pinpoint accuracy isn't needed for a clean and quick kill shot. And some bow hunters do choose use slings nonetheless. It comes down to personal preference.

The "SWING" in unnecessary. Look a Compound Archers, they don't swing their bows and are dead on. Once the arrow leaves it doesn't matter what the bow does. Look at pistol shooters. They grip the pistol and yet are not off target. It's all down to training. The "SWING" is one of those "Well we've always done it so we keep on doing it".

The force you release with increases as you pull the string back, as you know. That force is what damages the bow during dry firing. HOWEVER, because it was only at roughly 50% draw, it was fine for a single instance.

It is understandable why Compound and Olympic archers all drop their bows, exactly as explained in this video about not gripping their bows. But it still doesn’t explain why olympic archers swing their bows. In compound, most people I see, the bow jumps out of their hand, drops down 45 degrees where it is caught, and they lower their arms. In olympic archery, the bows commonly swings past verical (maybe 120° down?), then swings back up before they lower their arms. So why do olympics swing their bows rather than just drop them like compounds?

That stabilizer looks super ugly, awkward and should be banned in archery. Using any form of equipment to improve accuracy is not archery. Why not just bring a sniper rifle to the competition otherwise?
@greenhoodedvigilante458
@greenhoodedvigilante458 3 жыл бұрын
No matter what equipment you use on the bow, if you don't have consistent form, you won't hit the gold ring anyway. And what's your logic for those stabilizer being banned? Find an archer who never touched a target recurve and let him shoot with the bow at 70 meters and see how often he shoots 9s and 10s. Those extra equipment removes varibale in the shot. Someone with a bad form will never hit the target whether he/she shoots traditional/barebow/target recurve/compound bow whatever.
