Ugh. I don’t think most people want to keep “law abiding citizens” from owning guns, they just want to figure out how to keep the ones who aren’t from having them. If you’re law abiding, what’s the problem with getting a background check, or get training, or a license, or wait a few days? These same people are the ones who say “what’s so bad about requiring ID to vote?” If you can create hurdles for someone to exercise that constitutional right, then a few hurdles for gun ownership shouldn’t be such a problem, right?
@chain-breakingsage2 жыл бұрын
Gun ownership is a constitutional right, they do a full background checks including the occasional conversation with the FBI for gun purchases! Just going to try and honestly answer your questions I'm not attacking you. First it should be said that AR15's have never been used in a war. The M16 is a similar looking weapon but it's not the same. So calling an AR a weapon of war is not accurate. 2nd the most common sporting event AR's are used in is called a "3 Gun" course where participants navigate and shoot three different guns those being a pistol, a shotgun and a rifle. The rifle used is usually an AR. As to varmint control the AR shoots the .223 caliber cartridge which is based on the .222 cartridge which was originally designed as a varmint cartridge. Today the .223 has taken over and is actually the most common cartridge used in varmint control.

This is NOT a constitutional issue. I am so old that I remember when it was illegal to own "weapons of war". This means you could have a normal hunting rifle. Bolt action was the most accurate (not semi-automatic). No one was allowed to own a machine gun, cannon, bazooka or anything like that. No one considered this an infringement of their constitutional right to a gun.
@johnpatrick16472 жыл бұрын
When the Constitution was penned private citizens could own a cannon, by law. Until 1938 felons could still own firearms. I think that's when they banned machine guns, as well, but that might have come a bit later. Whether they could afford it, or not, is an entirely different story. Furthermore, semi-automatic rifles are not weapons of war, or they are, depending upon what your definition of "weapon of war" is. For example, at one point on time weapons of war consisted of rocks and sticks and inn other times it was knives, swords, arrows and axes. During those times, citizens still had access to those same "weapons of war" for self-defense and hunting. Now, in today's time, no military on Earth uses the AR-15 in its arsenal, therefore the militaries of the world have deemed the AR-15 to not be a weapon good for waging war. I would say they're wrong, just on the fact that any weapon is better than no weapon, but that's just me. Lastly, to ban semi-automatic weapons would make every pistol, most revolvers and the majority of rifles illegal. Semi-automatic means the weapon, and yes it's a weapon, loads one round for every trigger pull and one round only. You can't just hold down the trigger and keep firing.

@@johnpatrick1647 actually no a regular Joe could not have weapons of war, these were designed for that specific, from swords to axes, to pikes it was illegal, but you could have hunting weapons and tools, these could be used for war, big difference. Pure horse$hit right wing NRA talking points. The root of the problem in the United States is THE GUNS!! How do you not see this unless you're avoiding looking at the real issue or ignoring the real issue? Broken record time but every country in the world has mental health issues with their citizens but don't have mass shootings every other week. Let's say we take your advice and concentrate on the mental health avenue and devote resources to that problem. How long do you think it would be before studies are done and plans are implemented and we possibly see some results? 10 years? 20? We know the signs to look for and every law enforcement agency has a protocol for dealing with mass shooting incidents. Schools in this country educate and train their teachers constantly about teaching their kids what to do in mass shootings. They even have drills. The problem is that you're just not going to stop a determined person armed with a frickin AR-15 with hundreds of rounds of ammo. The one thing we KNOW for a FACT right NOW is that mass shooters have used semi automatic rifles (AR-15) in 63 mass shootings since 1982 in the United States. In fact, semi-automatic rifles were featured in four of the five deadliest mass shootings, being used in the Orlando nightclub massacre, the Stoneman Douglas Parkland shooting, Sandy Hook Elementary massacre and Texas First Baptist Church massacre. If we know what weapon these offenders typically use the most, doesn't it make sense that we ban these weapons of war from public use, at the very least, until we get the mental health aspect under control? This makes so much sense that it's grossly iresponsible and bordering on criminal that we haven't banned these weapons.

When the Gov Stood down in 2020 riots and allowed cities to burn, and police did nothing, you think the peple did not have the right to have arms to protect them selves. We stood as angry mobs headed towards our neighborhood, police did nothing, no militartry called, buildings cars destroyed... are we supposed to allow our gov to do nothing and accept it and remain defenseless... No.. we had at least 40 people armed with ar-15's, assault pepperball weapons surrounding our homes.... We needed them... The large invading hostile mob decided it was not worth the risk to enter out residential area and businesses because they saw the firepower and knew we could shoot more than 10 rounds at a time.... The second ammendment gives us that right... If we put our faith in our gov to protect us in 2020, we would have lost everything... but we have a second ammendment that kept us safe... Not 1 Rifle was raised.. we stood, guns pointed down.... The obstacle with Red Flag laws is lack of funding. If the court deems a person mentally unfit to own a gun, there is no place for that person to get the healthcare treatment they need. For the past 10-15 years, since the Great Recession of 06-07, states started cutting spending on mental health. And those levels didn't increase when the tax revenues increased. Last month our government passed an anti assault and anti handgun law across the country. Canadian people applauded this decision, and as we the Canadian people look at our southern neighbors, we don't believe that deep down inside, you actually care for human life. And while all other forms of firearms purchase require a background check, and while many States require it even for Private Sales, the Feds can't do it, so why do they keep trying? In my country, where firearms are illegal, our total annual murder stats (by any means) are in mere triple figures (809 last year), whilst your gun stats alone are 5 figures (20,982). Adjusted for population size, our total annual rate is 1.2 per 100,000, compared to the US's 6.3 per 100,000. And that pattern is consistent in nations where they're banned.

There are single shot rifles that are just as good at killing varmints. That's just a stupid reason. What do these varmint hunts look like? Do they just spray and pray that they hit there target...and technically the second amendment refers to a well trained militia. So unless these people are part of the reserve or standing military, I'm pretty sure the second amendment doesn't actually apply to them. It's only a single sentence long and people have still managed to misinterpret it for there own nefarious reasons. Stupid, just plain stupid.

Why do people think that just because an AR5 can have a 30 round mag, that they can't also have a 5 round mag? And why do you think a hunting rifle that normally has a 4 or 5 round mag, can't also have a 30 round mag? The only difference between AR15s and other semiautomatic firearms is that they are modular, configurable. You can change out an AR15 from .223cal to .300 Blackout or 350 Legend or several other calibers in a minute without tools, many use the same magazine. And no you have a rifle with very different ballistics. You can change your rifle from a plinker shooting .22LR, to a varmint rifle shooting .233, to a deer rifle shooting .350 Legend, to a defense rifle in .300 Blackout. Furthermore, our State National Guard and Reserve Component forces are not militias, the people are militias. If the thinking of the framers was that only our Military, controlled by the Government, needed a right to keep and bare arms, then what was the point of a Right being laid down to begin with? Explain how you think that was the logic behind it, that only Government "well regulated" militias should have firearms, so we need to enshrine that in the Bill of Rights, which protects the rights of the citizenry? But while I can easily speak to why people like the AR15 so much, and why you are completely off base about the meaning of the 2A, I must also explain more of the obvious. That the 2A was written to ensure that the People would be able to resist an oppressive government, our government, not just foreign governments. The fact that our government continues to try to disarm our people is proof of exactly why the 2A exists. There is nothing nefarious about the bill of rights, or the nd Amendment. Guns don't kill people, people kill people, with or without guns. And long ago people figured out better ways to kill large numbers of innocent people without using guns, so exactly what are you thinking you will accomplish? If you really want to fix this problem, then actually deal with it, and help keep families together and strong, make sure children grow up with good values in safe secure homes, learning how to treat other people. Do this and you'll have fewer young people going off the rails and doing these things. And keep thinking that getting rid of firearms or restricting their ownership is going to fix the problem because as soon as firearms are no longer available, they'll rediscover just how easy it is to just use fire or some simple chemical combinations for a toxic gas and then you'll see a scale of tragedy that makes these shootings pale in comparison. You really need to stop thinking that an inanimate object is the problem or that eliminating it is the solution.
@jaymass11782 жыл бұрын
you don't spray and pray with a semi auto. One trigger pull one shot. The vast majority of ARs are .223 caliber. It's a big 22. They are light weight, low recoil and a small round that can reach out 200 yrds. Perfect for varmints.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Despite the linguistic nightmare that is the second amendment, it does not: 1. say you have a right to any and all weapons 2. say all adults or specify an age 3. say anything about regulations or background checks It also implies that the the right to bear arms is within the context of participating in a militia (as the ideas are within the same sentence...). Therefore you could make all guns illegal except for single shot muskets supplied by congress to state-run militias that are only deployed against rebels and bandits (as was the definition of militia in the rest of the constitution) and not violate the second amendment.
