Yeah hugs can be really nice if it’s just two people showing appreciation for each other, but when hugs are abused by strangers in a predatory manner without any real respect or appreciation for the person getting it, that’s when it gets really weird. The hugs themselves aren’t the issue, I think it’s just the selfish intentions of the people forcing them onto others without their genuine consent that’s really shitty.

Yeah for sure, still though I don’t think the people in the video are really doing it as a form of love, it’s a lot more predatory than genuine appreciation, especially since they don’t seem like they care about how the person getting the hug feels, and more so cares about how their appearance can be a means to an end.

I used to be friends with a girl who was very huggy and mildly flirty with me, even though she had a boyfriend, and she'd often give me really tight, loving hugs out of nowhere, almost like she was trying to bait me into a "Where my hug at?" that she could later complain about. She had a few other male friends she did this with, and she'd often go between huggy-flirty-touchy with them, and bragging about how amazing and perfect her real boyfriend is, I'm guessing to stir up jealousy and play with emotions. I'll admit I did catch feelings for this girl, but when I started noticing these behaviours I distanced myself from that whole friend circle.

I can understand how creepy it is for someone that you don't know that well to walk up and do this to you to try and get into your pants or have a "socially acceptable" way to grope someone or some shit. But I feel as if this trend highlights the aversion to calling someone out for being a weirdo and not wanting to break social norms or offend them. Just tell them 'no'. I mean, hugging or asking for a hug from a friend shouldn't be frowned upon; hugs are how we are physically affectionate between people we like platonicaIly. Though I understand and agree with the message being delivered, I don't like how these memes are framed, like asking people for hugs is psychopathic behavior. Then again, what do I know? I don't have friends to hug.

A couple of times I told my friend I was gonna go shower and he said "without me?" and it made me super uncomfortable. I told him I was straight (I'm a man) and at one point he even followed me to my bedroom and waited for me to finish showering. Super creepy, I'm glad I ended that friendship.

Boys and girls, give and get as many hugs as you can (to people you know and dont viacerally hate ofc), they'll grow exponentially rarer after you get out of highschool. It may just be that I was taken out of public schooling at an early age, but I’ve never actually experienced this, and if someone were to do this to me rn I’d probably just give them a hug without really thinking much of it.
