Black History Month should be known as Human History Month. There are other ethnic groups of humans out there besides the blacks. Human History Month should be about humans of ALL ethnic groups and not just one specific ethnic group. Same goes for Hispanic History Month. Black History Month and Hispanic History Month should be mixed in with Human History Month, formerly known as Black History Month.

Thanks Dustin for tuning in. I agree! I too would love to see the day when we don't have to single out any group. When the history of everyone is incorporated in the school history books and their contributions are all well known. The reasons why these different history remembering months exists is because as of right now, much of the contributions that various heritages have contributed isn't known, isn't included in the history books and isn't spoken about like much of the European history. This is why those celebratory months exists. Case and point, polls have shown that most Canadians know very little about residential schools. The first people to call Canada home are not included in Canadian school history books to the scale that Canadians should know about. I do hope we get there one day Dustin. Hopefully collectively we can all make change.

I don’t understand why we have any special month for any specific category when we’re all the same. To have a history month based on the amount of pigmentation one has in their skin makes as much sense as having special months for people with blonde, red, black, or brown hair. Pigmentation of the skin and various physical traits have evolved over 10s of thousands of years in response to environmental and geographical differences. People act as if folks with different skin pigmentations are of a different species. Wrong!!! We’re all the same. The word Race was created by man as a convenient way of classifying people based on superficial characteristics. Race is not the same as species. We’re all the same species and don’t require a special month.
