Standard Normal Distribution & its need!
Ever wondered why and how we need to standardize the distribution, well worry not. In this video, I will explain why and how we can standardize the normal distribution with a very basic and straight-forward example. After watching this video the concept of standard normal distribution will be clear.
I would, however, request you to watch previous stats videos before going through this video, and the link to the videos are given below:

I got why we need Z score, Why we need to standardize the curve , but I am still unable to comprehend, how mean becomes zero. Anyways, this knowledge is sufficient for me to carry on with my endeavor to learn stats. Thank you for the much needed explanation.

Hi Azad, z score of a mean is nothing but the distance of mean from itself (mean) as per the formula. Hence if you put mean instead of x in formula the z becomes 0. Hence, actually for a mean, z value becomes zero and while plotting it in a standard normal distribution, we denote mean at z=0. Hope that helped!

This comes from the definition of the mean. In fact, lets suppose that you did N exams in university. Then, in order to calculate your average, you would sum up each grade that you got and divide the result by N. If we denote x1,x2,x3.....xn as your grades, then your average would be equal to (x1+x2+x3+....xn)/N. Now let's suppose that for every grade that you got, we substract your average to it. What would your new average be? If we denote your new grade with x' then x'1=x1-u (Where u represents your average). Now, your new average would be equal to the sum of your "new" grades divided by N: (x'1+x'2+x'3.....+x'n)/N = (x1-u + x2-u + x3-u ..... + xn-u)/N = (x1+x2+x3+....+xn)/N - (u*N)/N = u - u = 0. I hope that this makes sense.
