Oh my gosh- I had no clue that wearing a respirator was so important when shaving fur! I have been shaving fur without anything for over a year thinking it was completely fine. Thank you Skye for letting me know this and saving me from potential lung cancer in the future! I will be ordering one ASAP!

I was shaping the foam for my first fursuit head base, and yeah I absolutely recommend wearing a mask or respirator.

Thanks for the marker advice Skye! I didn't know liquid chalk pens were even a thing so I was using solid pencils, made marking feel like drawing on a stone tablet xP Having markers be usable is a great plus too!

i hand sew but personally i prefer to add seam allowance even though i only hand sew it still helps, also i knew irt was important to weara mask/resporater but i never knew why so nice to know

What else can you use the respirator for? My father makes knifes and uses one for it, and you use it for fursuit making. Have you ever used it for something other than that, or if you cut a certain type of foam?

You can also use it with an airbrush if you paint your fur instead of buying it precolored, or when you "polish" (idk the right word) EVA foam.

i have watched this tutorial right after i sheved the fur on my furs fursuit and im really scared now. am i going to be ok because thers a lot of fur on the inside of the head and im tryieng to clean it out but its impossible! halp

I also have the same problem with the fur fitting, although I use masking tape and duct tape, I leave seam allowance,(about 1/4 inch) and use big z fabric and howl fabric fur. as soon as I take the tape pattern off I immediately transfer it to paper so it probably wouldn't have time to shrink or something, the fur I use doesn't really stretch, and I use seam allowance so idk whats the issue.

I've never used a respirator or any kind of mask to shave fur, I just try not to inhale it and if I do I drink water. I should probably start doing that, I don't have a respirator though so idk just a covid mask?

Any mask is better than none. Protection is important. Even a small amount of protection is better than no protection.

Some masks are better than others. All masks offer protection. So its better to have any mask than to have none. No mask is the worst. Even a small amount of protection is a good choice.
