Why do YOU train? Everyone has a reason to not train. Truth be told I wish I could give y’all a peek behind the curtain to see the shit I have to go through and the shit I have been through but I still train. Everything on me hurts. Take a moment and think about the damage I have done to my body... all the jumps, the fights, all the deployments, all the years in Special Forces but I’m still here and I’m still training. Still getting faster and stronger. There is nothing special about any of us. There is nothing special about me. Just like Dennis in this video we all have a choice. Choose to train. #alwaysbeready #bornforthis

59 year old white belt at a Gracie school and I LOVE IT ! Four months in, I think/hope I am progressing, but I refuse to stop. 3-4 days a week, usually feel like a bus hit me but I love everything about it. I love the exercise that I desperately need, the guys at the school are awesome, love the mental aspect of the chess match even though I seem to be playing checkers….I can’t get enough ! Started because my grandson spent the summer with me and had been bullied. He went for two months and went home and took care of the bully ! Had top control when the teachers arrived ! 😃

There is something to be said for the confidence and humility BJJ and striking give you. You develop a very calm confidence knowing that if anyone wants a piece of you, that you can give them something back that they are not going to like. Any one of the bullies I had to deal with back when I was younger would not want anything to do with me now and there is something that feels really freeing about knowing that but at the same time I would never advocate looking for it and neither would most martial arts schools.

I train because everything in life is a battle, whether a battle of wills, or a crossing of blades. And when those battles come, I want to be prepared to overwhelm the opposition with my willpower, or with my fighting skills.

I train because it’s fun and helped me transition away from the toxicity that is a core component of the second amendment community. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Maybe the people you were around were toxic but i wish we had that right in canada. I think tim would agree nothing wrong with your guys second a and people who agree and practice safe firearm use (which i guess is a community). Your berimbolo crab ride to back isnt going to save u from someone like the Nova scotia shooter we had up here. Wish there was a responsible second a community member up here then.

@@AspiringSpaceWizard First of all, despite what the media portrays Canada has no where near the level of mass shootings as the United States has. Ya'll have managed for the most part to get control of that stuff through gun regulation and cultural change. I'm sure you can agree that America's patchwork loose gun laws by state should horrify a Canadian like you. But it's more than just that because I'm also a war veteran who did most of his service in the Infantry with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. I know what it means to have a militarized mindset and the ensuing loss of humanity that comes from having that mindset where people are looked at as a target or potential threat all the time. Its soul sucking and yet that stupid mindset is a key component of the gun community and its culture. Who wants to live that like if you don't have to nor when you don't have the backing of the state?
