I look at the collar as a beacon to people that you are someone to approach for spiritual help. I think it's very noble to wear one since it makes you a target for some of the most broken people of this world, and rightfully so. If I see a pastor/priest wearing a collar, I am DEFINITELY pulled to asked this person to pray for me, or reminded to seek God even deeper.

I'm lutheran, and I've never seen my pastor wear a clerical collar. Our former pastor did all the time.

I grew up in a Pentacostal church and my pastor was wearing a clerical collar when he baptized me.

@iancampbell1494 It wasnt a flex. Throughout most lf the video, you cant see the collar because of his beard. It was just a statment of fact.

I like the clerical collar and vestments also, somewhat like icons and crucifixes they can be very useful. God's peace be with you.

Your collar is rather popish in design with just the little bit of white in the front rather than the traditional Presbyterian full size collar.

Ive been a Catholic priest for over 30 years. No one has ever asked me why I wear a collar.

The collar also gets you discounts in some restaurants and people are more deferential toward you so it's a status symbol

As someone new to the LCMS, I really like the collar. It gives me an odd feeling of safety. As I search for LCMS/AALC churches in my area (CA), I find the few we have offer modern/contemporary services or blended services and the collar/vestments seem to be ditched. 😔

This collar was initially named Roman Collar, where, as you said, then changed its name. Can you please tell us why it was called the Roman collar in the first place?

I will say, I love the look clerical color and the clarity it provides (many Protestant traditions really do not respect the boundaries between the clerical office and congregant). But, it is frustrating that you can’t hardly even touch someone and assure them if the promises of their baptism without them assuming you just gave them a priestly blessing 🙄

Is there a difference in meaning behind the small white front square collar and the full white collar that goes around the neck? These seem to be worn interchangeably but was just curious.

The white collar that goes right round the neck is perhaps a little old fashioned with most now going for a white slip in collar as shown on the video. The full collar seems to be more popular in the USA for some reason and is rarely seen here these days.

The full white collar that goes all the way around the neck has no meaningful difference it's just a different clerical collar, it will attach differently as well some of them use buttons or cuff links. What is most common today is a tab collar which is just a piece of plastic or reinforced fabric that slips into the collar. Its largely down to personal preference or what a church will dictate is acceptable for a pastor or priest to wear.

The anglican collar and the Roman collar are different

Not really as it is as much about choice as opposed to churchmanship. Roman priests will always wear a black shirt though whereas Anglicans may wear a multitude of colours and styles.

Thank you for the explanation Pr.Cooper. Pls. image search Google for "præstekjole" to see what the civil-servant priest's collar is in Denmark. This and the robe is from the Reformation time (1533 in Denmark) and was THE standard civil-servant uniform at the time ... which did not get changed in the Danish Lutheran Church. The Danish Folkekirke priests are the only civil-servants who still have this centuries-old uniform.

I much prefer a pastor with a clerical collar over these "loosey-goosey" pastors wearing jeans, shirttails out, and sneakers while preaching a sermon. Did they just come in from mowing their lawn?

There is nothing you should wear to identify yourself on the outside....rather it's your behavior that identifies you. A collar is a tradition of man ( false teaching ) because nowhere is a collar mentioned in the Bible. Further more Christ said , "CALL NO MAN FATHER" " F FOR

Jesus nor any of his disciples wore anything special to show that they were of God. Only in the Old Testament did we see priests wear special garments to serve God. Those laws where given to them by God himself. We also see that with Samson.

What an uncharitable response to somebody you don’t even know. It’s just a visual aid for people to know that you are clergy and are there for spiritual aid, not necessarily for just those in the church but even those outside.

Jesus Christ showed you in scripture stupid about those who wear long robes and such. He called them pharisees. Those who seem wise but who teach leaven. Those who are in hypocrisy. You wear it because you DO NOT honor nor follow Jesus. Jesus was very clear to beware of those who wear these "spiritual garmets". Its prideful and God does not like it. Doesn't matter where it came from, its wrong and against Christ.
