fun fact : boxers in ancient times didn't have weight classes, nor did they have real techniques like dodging or weaving out of the way it was until what would be considered a middle weight fighter dodge (and became somewhat a champion in his sport) that it was adopted by other boxers you can verify this on google (boxer+dodge+history) (my apolodgies if it's a false memory of mine

The zweihander has probably saved more lives than any other weapon in DS1, I remember I kept it as my backup for anything that gave me a really hard time

I'd argue Black Knight Halberd is more reliable, Zwei carries it's weight after getting above +10, more so because you can get the BKH to 3+ while still in Parish. Plus starting as a thief really let's you get just enough stats to two hand it before the Gargs, which is enough to two shot the Gargs. Not to mention the extra damage against demons really helps obliterates Queelag too. Late game it is outshined by a vast majority of weapons in terms of raw damage but it's low weight and fast attack allows you to drop some armor and keep fastrolling. I've completed the game without armor in 1 hr 10 mins glitchless and BKH was the secret, do try it out sometime.

On my first playthrough, I accidentally dealt too much damage to that merchant before I realized he was friendly and not just another Hollow. 😭 I just saw him right after coming through the doorway and murder-hobo'd him.

Claymore is less slow to me (not that its a fast sword at all), Zwei feels like I have to wait 10 minutes before my swing finishes, idk it was never my thing.

I went with claymore too, it's because I like to use a shield and using the Z one handed requires higher STR stat.

@doomtrooper3184 Zweihander can be found right away, and uses basic materials to upgrade. Plus, since it scales off both Str and Dex in its standard form, it remains viable to have pyromancy as a side option.

Its probably the best newB friendly wep (if ur new dont get discouraged if u run into problems later on )u just gotta get used to the timing-(if all else fails lev it up and apply fire, lightning etc(for bosses

Something I really like about the zwëihander is the little AoE it has on the R2 attack, even if you miss the attack the stomp on the ground will hit your target and damage it a little, it can also stagger some enemies (and it gets even greater if infused with lightning)

Zweihander is just a bit inferior to Black Knight Ultra Greatsword when it comes to that one shot capabilities. However the BKGS's ability is to burger flip and not pancake though.

The zweihander is an all around great colossal weapon, and it's easily accessible in early game play. It's also been my bread n butter in every DS iteration of it. You could never go wrong with it.

It's heavy is pretty hard to miss with and even if you do, you're most likely barely missing and knocking them back. It's like a free safe on block if it was in a arcade fighting game. Very little room to punish you for messing up.

Yeah once I got the zweihander, I saw why everyone loves it. I genuinely don’t think I could have beaten ds1 without it lol. I ended the game with the zwei and havel’s entire armor set and medium roll

This was the first I had seen a sword as big as the zweihander in a game, not even the skyrim greatswords were as big in my mind... this colossal sword... it hypnotized me. Long story short, I've loved it ever since
