Why Does Finland Have So Many Icebreakers?

Short little video all about Finnish icebreakers. I'm planning on making a longer one but just testing out some of my editing chops.

Finnish icebreakers were also built for landlocked countries such as Kazakhstan. Shallow draft ice breaking supply vessels Arcticaborg and Antarcticaborg operated for more than a decade in the Caspian Sea to support the Kashagan project. Additionally, five icebreakers of the Mangystau class were constructed in Romania but designed in Finland by Aker Arctic

Then there's that old joke that when the Finns built the Soviets their icebreaker, they installed a state-of-the-art sauna for them, including all stainless steel benches!

I was on several Arctic expedition to Greenland on Finnish icebreakers - 1 on Fennica and 2 on Otso, beautiful vessels, most friendly crew and delicious pea soup every Thursday: )

Very interesting, I wasn't aware Finland was that big on ice breakers compared to the rest of the world, makes sense however! For any ice breaker interested tourists in Finland, I recommend checking out the museum boat Tarmo in Kotka. Although it wasn't built in Finland, its history spans through all the important events the country has been through as it is older than the independent nation itself.

We like to build them heavy... like in 2019, a military vessel (from venezuela?) rammed exploration/passenger ship RCGS Resolute, Aaand the military vessel sunk... leaving the RCGS Resolute with some paint damage.
