Yea, I "thought" I was extremely risk-averse until I BOUGHT a call option in January - ITM, 1 year expiration, then the stock tanked (PLTR)...and was suddenly OTM. The thing that saved me was I only bought 3 contracts and it was only about 10% of that one acct. When PLTR finally rallied recently, I sold the contracts for only about a $300 *profit*, it's continued to go up and I could care less. Yes I sold a little early and cost me some gains, but I sleep better, cuz for 6 months it seemed like it would never get ITM again. After that, I now have made a rule that I will NEVER BUY another option, now I only SELL cash secured puts, and work the wheel strategy on solid companies. Thank God THIS CHANNEL preaches 10% or so on a single option, cuz THAT'S what saved my money AND SANITY!

I'm holding about 40,000 in PLTR. I felt your pain there for awhile. It's important not to run for the EXITS as soon as you get out of the hole too. Yes, you got scared by the mild correction in May and June but you should stick to your plan.

@@WmSrite-pi8ck yes I agree, I own shares in the company, I just wanted out of that option, so I gladly took my small profit and didn't look back. Lesson learned, BUYING options isn't for me, I'll stick to owning shares and selling puts for an amazing entry should the price tank. Good luck

Sizing trades is probably the biggest lesson I learned when I started doing this 25 years ago. I blew up my first $50k trading account by making stupid, yolo bets that repeated failed. Since then, I've learned my lesson and have been able to survive multiple bad beats while cashing several 2,000% to 3000% winners. Managing the size of your trades, knowing when to cut losers and knowing when to let winners run are three very valuable lessons very trader eventually learns one way or the other.

It makes sense to buy options with a close expiration date if you are day trading, you will get more leverage when the stock price doesnt move as much. Also for day trading, buy options near the strike price to be able to enter and exit trades faster, since speed is needed to day trade, it makes sense. If option is too far away in strike price, spread is wider and can take longer to get a favorable exit price in that spread
@XxHitmanxXpro

Walstreet bets lose because they just yolo without an entry and exit strategy along with having no risk management. They'd rather make $50k in one "bet" than take consistent gains with a proven strategy. They think that holding till its zero is better than taking a small loss and trying to recover the loss on other plays. I posted this before watching the video btw so you probably already mention it haha.

boot leg: The analogy is like going to (honest, and often boring) work each day, vs. being a criminal and taking down some $multi-million score to get rich). You WON'T get quick retirement selling covered calls, or trading various option spreads with high odds of positive returns. But, OTOH, the simple, down to earth, high probability and low risk strategies (like working an honest job requiring enough skills to require some education, or selling covered calls, or credit put spreads), can have MASSIVELY positive returns, over time, and help your portfolio gain superior yearly returns, which add up MASSIVELY over a career. Fairy tales are for small children. As an adult with money earned to trade stocks and options -- you should use far more math than fairy tales.

The other thing I have learned to love is not buying highly volatile options in addition to the LEAPS suggestion. Yeah sure it makes holding these things like watching paint dry and almost like holding the stock, but that is the point right. You get the advantage of leverage from the options to help extend your gains. Also if it is less volatile it means cheaper options as volatility is the main function of price. That way if you anticipate a price movement you get a discount when it becomes more volatile (hopefully in the right direction but nothing is perfect in the world).

Have you ever made explained trading the wheel weekly vs monthly in any of your videos? Recently started running the wheel thanks to you and I have found the weeklys can generate better return on an annual basis. At least on the sticks I have picked anyhow
@thomasd5488
@thomasd5488 2 жыл бұрын
VERY TRUE. Selling weekly options, 4 times a month will usually earn more premium than selling 1 monthly option. (Sometimes, low volatility stocks don't have enough premium to sell a weekly. In that case, go out to the next expiration day, 12 dte.) The key to knowing, is to divide the premium by the number of days to expiration (dte). This gives you a Profit Per Day=PPD which allows you to compare the premium earned, per day, on any time frame you choose, 5 dte, 12 dte, 30 dte, 60dte, 90 dte. THE MORE PREMIUM PER DAY IS KEY, to earning optimum ROI.

@coletaylor9847
@coletaylor9847 2 жыл бұрын
Weeklies are better until underlying plummets. Your contract assigns deep in the red and you can't write meaningful CCs on the holding. Longer puts allow you to still generate $ while the stock is down, at a lower % ... nothing is cut & dry in the markets. GL.
@Lestergreen77
@Lestergreen77 2 жыл бұрын
@@coletaylor9847 what do you mean generate $ while the stock is down? You know you can roll the weekly put to the next week before expiration even if it’s ITM right? And even if you get assigned you can make your CC’s pay more if you do a longer expiry call.
@thomasd5488
@thomasd5488 2 жыл бұрын
@@coletaylor9847 If the underlying stock plummets, you have the same problem with monthlies that you have with weeklies. Weeklies give me more choices than monthlies to roll out to a farther expiration date, to earn a net credit, and avoid assignment. I NEVER take assignment so I don't have to worry about finding profitable calls to sell. Also, the longer the option time, the more risk the stock will turn against you. Four weeklies options is better than one monthly option, period.

I think using the bottom of the 2008 recession as your starting point to average the annual returns of the snp500 is pretty misleading and maybe not even in the favor of what you're arguing for. The average annual return since its modern inception in 1957 is ~8%. The average return since the PEAK of the 2008 bubble is almost 11%. You'd think since the peak in 2008 was significantly overvalued it would push that percentage down, but we are outpacing historical returns even with the top of the real estate bubble handicapping us. Either the overall market has broken away from the historic trend, or we are in a bull run that will be corrected at some point. The farther from the historic average the more concerning this should be, 16% should be more concerning than 11%. I wouldn't bet against the market, but outperforming for so long doesn't inspire me to be as confident that the short/medium term will perform as well as I think it would in a less extreme market.

I've been telling people from the start not to listen to WSB. The only reason they made money in the first place is because they found out GME was being shorted and they capitalized on it at the right time. Once that was over it was all down hill(forgot about AMC). The worst part is new investors ate this all up and starting listening to these people. Putting money into stocks they know nothing about, just because a forum told them to,

When you're putting most of your money in things like SPY it seems you're going no where fast. Also options are enticing which can cost your ass if you dont know what you're doing. Best method of all is to put all of your money in a 401K and let it ride. Less risk and there is no emotion in it al which can cause you to do crazy shit.
