Why doesn't Apple make iPhones in the US? Because China will not allow it.

Apple is worth nearly $3 trillion in market cap. If their shares were divided equally among everyone in the US, each American would own over $9,000 worth of Apple shares.
Yet their success is impossible without Chinese low-cost, semi-skilled labor and raw materials sourcing, particularly the rare earth materials and magnets over which China has a monopoly.
Decades of outsourcing production and logistics have resulted in even the richest companies being beholden to China and its total domination of supply chains in almost every critical industry. The future success -- even survival -- of Apple and scores of other brands rests on China's willingness to sell them the key raw materials required to build their products.

Cheers to you and your channel. As a old myself, ( I fancy myself as a historian) , The Chinese just follow N Bonaparte, Never interfere when the enemy is in the process . Amerika is a aggressive, bully colonialism country, Pretty much the same as the brits , French, Germans or BELGIAN. - Exploited and thief. - China , thru its history , "hardly" do such , Simply because they have enough of misery and want some contentment. Of course, there are some psychopath who crave dominance & murder millions of his citizens A few is enough to scar the rest to avoid such . - And when a bully empire is on its death throes, they "import" slaves to fight their own battles, That's why the Roman empire fell . That's also happening in you crane. The hard-core psychopath shooting their own people and mercenaries , fleeing from enemy , only to be mow down by these psychopath. History repeat itself , if unlearned . Just like Tucker Carlson, Learning history while doing interview . What a clown , but it's good , People, MORE people know more today than before Tucker interview.

After seeing companies move to Mexico , both telecommunications and washing machines, you can see the difference. The Mexican government cannot offer the same level of stabilities, and the workpool is of lower quality. 10 years after whirlpool moved, check the quality. It isn't there. Short term profit instead of long term profitability. The car manufactures have the same problem with assembly of rear ends, and things that require a skilled worker, not just a body. I have not yet met a Chinese worker who didn't have a great education, or was willing to learn a new skill. I can't say that to some Americans I had to train. I'm sure culture plays a large part in that, but we in the US just don't seem to embrace education like they do.

America, oh America! Always so fixated on war, war, war! It seems like their entire focus, both financially and resource-wise, is directed towards the arms industry. And why wouldn't they? After all, it's a highly lucrative business! They even go to great lengths to create countless enemies, ensuring that the war machine never comes to a halt. It's as if their arms industry thrives on the very notion of killing, death, and suffering, equating it all to money in their pockets. But alas, back home in America, their own people seem to be of little concern to them. It's almost as if war is the only path they know how to tread. Chinese have noses for business. If they can do reliable, quality, on time and on demands. That’s all any good business would need. If I were Apple, I’d be really happy with that kind of technology eco-system. They made money rains for businesses. Your story reminded me of an ancient king. His kingdom was at peace, prosperous and full of talented people under him. At his last party in his palace. In a celebratory mood, one of his loyal officials congratulated him on his ruling of this perfect kingdom. He replied with the usual courtesy way. It’s the good people that made me look good. Then he said he’s thinking of retirement, and wonder would any of his children want such stressful job. His loyal subject replied “are you kidding me, anyone would kill to be your seat”. He laughed and walked away. He thought to himself, wow, he didn’t people would kill to be in his place. He started to doubt everyone. He was fearing for his life. He died soon afterwards due to fears. Similarly, the American government found a Chinese goose that lays golden eggs. They suddenly afraid the goose might’ve flown away, gotten sick or worse, stolen. They worried sick every day. Will they die of fears like the old king? The only the sands of time can tell. They never ask the goose if the goose was happy with the arrangements?

I guess he answered the question "Will India be the next China?" (and other countries too) they've been asking for 20 years, at least in terms of the anything electronic. Jayant Bhandari, an Indian businessman says the bribery infrastructure is just getting worse under the Hindu nationalist government of Modi. It used to be sort of quietly expected you had to bribe government officials to get anything done in India. Today, it's openly stated by all government officials like a sanctioned though unauthorized tax and everyone is competing with everyone to get the biggest bribes. Then there's the problem of infrastructure and work ethic. I just feel bad for the average Indian who just wants food security and job security for their families. BTW, Peter Zeihan is entertaining if often just propaganda.

@@kenw.4539 Most westerners don't bother to read beyond the headlines for India. If you are interested do a search on Ashoka Mody, professor at Princeton originally from India. India's problems are so profound that it is tragic. Just a few of the things he touched on interviews and books. 1) India's women are not emancipated. Compared to countries like China and Vietname which has female labor participation of 88 and 92%. India is at only 30%. 2) Its secondary school education is atrocious. The last time India competed in PISA was 2010, its students did so bad that India withdraw from PISA competition all together. Recently it did sample tests of its students to assess if it should return to annual PISA competition and again its students did abysmally compared to other asian countries. Just these 2 points alone will prevent India's work force from ever competing against China. Then there is the criminal corruption like Jayant talks about. A simple google search will show that its NATIONAL MPS, yes, the local MPS are even worse. 40% of National MPs at parliament has pending criminal cases against them. 26% of those MPs have serious criminal charges against them, defined as Murder, Attempted Murder, Kidnapping and Rape. The % of local state parliament with criminal elements is even higher. There are tons of other sad points professor Mody talks about. But these 3 points will show you that India and not China as Peter Zihan loves to talk about, is the one that will be at serious risk of collapsing in the near future.

Profit is the key. Theoretically, as long as Apple is willing to cut down its profit earning, combined with a large increase of its sale price, it's still attainable. In reality, impossible because they'll price themselves out of the market entirely.

Watching some videos of manufacturing in India is quite unbelievable. The machinery is 100 years old, they don’t appear to have heard of benches and do most of the work squatting on dirt floors. The materials are recycled from scrap and there appears to be little if any material control. However the workers are very hard working and proud of the results.

The Apple India experiment established Indian red tape and business laws leave much to be desired, Indian workers don't possess the same work ethic as the Chinese and the Indian infrastructure is quite unreliable, so Indian workers have trouble keeping regular hours. When TSMC established their US factory, there were many problems. I heard that their US chips will cost 40% more than the Taiwanese product, which begs the question, where are the customers that want to pay so much more for the same thing? Apple don't just "take a product out of its box and put it into another box" as though it's a generic product. They design the product and the packaging, oversea its construction and develop the software that is the key ingredient of the product, otherwise it'd only be a box.

Finally the baby was claimed to be borne out of that glamorous guy and his glamorous wife or girlfriend.

Appreciate you calling it out for what it is. China serves up a lot of good for the world. If you decentralise and make mass production inefficient by involving lots of little replicated production centres , you will ACTUALLY HARM the environment immeasurably. You will also hit a lot of hip pockets as the world loses middle class demographics and goes to the two extremes, lower middle class or rich. An extra 15-20% cost increase on everything just to decentralise is unaffordable for plenty of people and only lowers everyone's quality of life. I hope the hate and hit campaign on China stops from American congress. It is only harming the world.

There is something called the knowledge based economy. There are two aspects of industrial knowledge. The knowledge of how the product virually works and how to assemble the physical components, "engineerubg design". And the knowledge of how to physically assemble efficiently, from the desing, the physical components into the final product with machines and the workforce, "manufacturing process engineering". Apple owns the knowledge of the design, the chinese companies own the knowledge of the processes and they won't sell it cheap.

Even imagining Apple's leadership could humble themselves enough to try and hire away Chinese experts to replicate that ecosystem in another country (and listen to those experts, and support their work) it would take a decade. We see it with TSMC: Trump forced them to commit to building microchips in the US, and Biden forced commitment on a second factory, but nothing is up and running yet and now they're saying it'll take at least a couple more years. China drew in foreign companies with deals; the US compelled them with promises of subsidies and threats of sanctions and tariffs, but is now encouraging unionization at their factories and attaching more and more conditions to the subsidies. Bottom line, it'd be a huge lift if the US were clever about it, but they aren't.

Correct, however biased and incomplete in thinking that manufacturing in the US or other developed Nations is practically impossible. It’s this kind of thinking that makes your point of view so seductive. Germany is a relatively speaking (by size and energy resources) a small player. However, Germany is an export POWERHOUSE. It produces high quality products, from cars to advanced scientific equipment. They produce so much high quality products, that I will let others look that up. I can say the same about Sweden, and in some extent, France and the UK too. So, the issue is not entirely cheap labor. The issue is American Business Leasers who are all grass fed a view that one needs low skill and cheap labor to produce anything at a low enough cost, that anyone would by at an affordable enough price, while making a 10X profit. Perhaps you should visit Germany and Sweden. While you are there, check out Airbus factories in France and ARM in the UK.

The moral to this sad story is that central planning can greatly outperform market economies focused primarily on near term profits irrespective of national concerns and long term competitiveness. Much has been said about Asian companies and countries stealing western technology but the reality is that western companies traded said technology for easy profits….
