A construction that has been talked about for decades and would provide comfortable travel for 17 million people a year. We are talking about the train line that is supposed to lead from Prague to the airport. How does it look and why isn't it standing yet? This is what we focused on in the latest episode of the Live Prague series.
We covered the expressway project to the airport and on to Kladno in one of the recent videos. So if you are interested in the details of the plan to make it easier for passengers to connect not only to the airport, check out: • Rychlodráha na trase P...
In this part, we will focus on specific places through which the route to the airport should lead. And also how complex construction in these locations will be.
We have to divide the expressway project into two parts. The first leads from the center to Veleslavín station. Construction here will certainly be challenging, as the railway passes through an already built-up area and, for example, part of the route will have to lead through a tunnel. The second part leads from Veleslavín station to the airport. The latter is the most important, because today there is a underground to Veleslavín, but people still have to take the bus.
How difficult is it actually to build a train connection from Veleslavín station to the airport? Tracks already run from Veleslavín, within the 3.9 km long monorail leading to Ruzyně. On this section, it is enough to modernize the existing track, add a second track and make a level crossing. What about the rest of the second leg? The route ending at the airport will be 5.5 kilometers long. So far there is only a field. No major obstacles for construction. Just lay the tracks, make the level crossings and the train to the airport is ready to go.
In addition to the tracks, it will of course also be necessary to complete the construction of stops - an underground stop at Veleslavín, so that you can easily transfer directly from a train to train, a stop in Liboc, at Dlouhá Míle and then, of course, at Ruzyně. It should also be underground and connected to individual terminals thanks to underpasses.
It doesn't seem complicated in theory, what do you say? And yet, the approximately 9-kilometer train line has been planned for decades... What's behind it? Write us your opinion in the comments below the video!
