An interventional radiologist saved my life about 10 years ago! You can’t get any sexier than that! Was in the hospital literally hemorrhaging to death from a uterine fibroid. I was scheduled for a hysterectomy but they had to cancel because I threw several clots to my lung. They couldn’t give me blood thinners while I was hemorrhaging so they called in IR who did a UFE and saved the day. Blood thinners started, I survived and kept my uterus as a bonus prize :) I think it would be awesome if you did some videos with people who have had IR procedures to let people see what you guys do! ❤️

@@DrCellini the sad thing to me is I don’t even know the radiologist’s name and I wouldn’t recognize him if I saw him on the street . I’m sure he introduced himself but I was so sick at the time. As a now-retired RN, I've never liked the way Oz has spoken about subjects not in his scope of practice, how he promotes unhealthy practices (cleanses, anyone?), & generally sought to hype unproven therapies. After the rudeness and lack of respect displayed by Dr Oz' staff towards you, I hope you avoid them completely. We the viewers can speak up and promote your channel to other medical shows (Discovery channel, The Doctors, etc). Dr Oz ( a cardiac surgeon) is fully aware of the relevant work IR's do for cardiac patients (cardiac stent placements, angioplasty, basket filter placements. General radiologists do reports on Echocardiograms, MRI's and more). Medical science does not need to be "sexy", it needs to be accurate.

I work in the film industry and most cases the host or the “star of the show” doesn’t know the decisions that his producers make. He never stated that he talked to dr. Oz just the producers, and the majority of producers or even people in general who don’t work in medicine don’t what IR is. I wouldn’t say they were rude to him directly, that’s just the industry it’s really cold hearted, they treat almost everyone like that. Dr. Oz isn’t the one cherry picking his guest, it’s the producers then when they find someone they like then they introduce the guest to the host. That’s when dr.oz would make the final decision to have him/her on the show

As a med student I think there’s a place for every field of medicine to be appropriately represented in media and for that we need people like you who are actively working in the field to represent it. If every aspect of medicine wasn’t “sexy” or interesting, then shows like grey’s anatomy or the good doctor wouldn’t be such hits. People are interested in what doctors do and see (though it has to be dramatized a bit), but I think that a physician with the right personality, practicing within any field of medicine, could be interesting media to consume.

I appreciate that you don’t talk about things that aren’t in your wheelhouse. Not looking to knock Dr. Oz but I recall a man who was questioning why DRE is a necessary exam for prostate cancer. @breea07
@breea07 2 жыл бұрын
A cardiologist and a cardiothoracic surgeon are not the same thing. Also, all physicians are trained on all aspects of the physical exam, even DREs. As a person who went through general surgery training, Dr. Oz has probably done several in his life.

@@breea07 noted but would you go to a cardiothoracic surgeon to check for prostate cancer? I understand doctors go through rotations and once specialized, probably don’t practice outside that specialty. For example, Dr. Cellini has mentioned that he doesn’t need a stethoscope in his field but I’m sure he learned how to use one proficiently …but he still doesn’t keep one in his bag because he doesn’t use it.

I am curious - my husband is in the hospital as we speak. He was admitted with pneumonia but something was off. They ended up determining he had congestive heart failure and needed 3-4 stents which turned into a quadruple bypass. He also has an AAA that is on hold until the bypass is more stable. So would this all have been discovered by an interventional radiologist? Someone determined the xrays were not pneumonia but heart issues and he has an exertion fraction of below 20. Would you be that person?

This is golden for so many reasons. My late father was a radiologist and was one of the earliest gens of IRad (he was also a handsome Italian guy from NJ!) and he used to do a fun foreign objects traveling show (pre-internet) for kid (pre-overprotective parent era), and he even did it for my son’s class when he was in elementary school. Listen, hon, you do NOT want to be associated with Dr. Oz in ANY way. He’s a quack and you know it. Why so anxious to be on TV? Being an MD isn’t enough for you? You could go on to get a PhD or study biotechnology, right? Let me tell you something about Oz: he couldn’t read and criticality evaluate a scientific paper if you put a gun to his head. You may think you want more money or fame, but you have no idea about the big bite that takes out of your soul. It may be fun on the way up, but the fall will ruin your life. Keep your head down, do your work, collab with Dr. Glaucomfranken, and keep your patients safe and healthy. You’re enough just the way you are.

Amazing…they talk about and promote vitamins and supplements all the time (which is why I quit watching…I would need a giant grocery bag to hold all the vitamins they recommend)…but how BORING is that? I only learned about and worked with IR in the last few years of my career as an RN and must say that my thought was “where has this specialty been throughout my career?” It is such an asset to the patient and medical staff. That’s why I love your channel, it helps me learn so much and even though I’m now retired, I’m still fascinated by the complexity of the human body and I can keep up with current trends.

Do you want to explain the difference between interventional and diagnostic radiology? In my mind, most of radiology is diagnostic or aids in diagnostic strategies. Can you elaborate on the differences between the two?

Hey Dr. Cellini, I am an aspiring IR medical student in my second year, and was wondering if you took the USMLE in addition to the COMLEX, or if you think it would be beneficial, espicially now that it is pass/fail, hope this finds you well, thanks!

Hi Dr. Cellini, I have a BS in Nuclear Medicine and work as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. I have been practicing nuclear medicine for three years and realized the public and some doctors do not understand radiology and other areas in radiology such as nuclear medicine. I am currently getting my license for CT and other imaging modalities. I love radiology and working in nuclear medicine. I have decided to attend medical school in two years to become an IR doctor and dedicate half of my time to nuclear medicine. I would love to do a video with you to educate the public.

I don't watch Dr. Oz because I don't respect him. I would make of watching an episode if you were on it. When I get ECT I have to go to IR so they can access my port. It was IR that put my power port in. I am a very hard stick when it comes to starting ITS. It has sometimes taken ten tries to get an IV started on me. I think I might have dealt with IR in another thing but I am not sure. I had to get a drainage tube put into my gallbladder via the liver. The drainage tube was in me for a month before I could get my gallbladder removed. I was awake for the procedure and it was excruciatingly painful. They were trying I think conscious sedation but my oxygen says were too low, so they couldn't really give me anymore meds so I ended up being wide awake. I like the Doctors, if you got on that show I would try and watch it. I would watch you on Dr. Oz. I do think he is a sell out to his profession.

I agree. Keep doing what you do. People (Dr Oz crowd) are shallow. Sexy? Medicine is not exactly 'sexy'! I blame Gray's anatomy and similar series for creating these expectations. Who cares what's sexy anyways? Fashionable? Be you, keep saving lives with IR as other commenters have written & let the shallow be entertained!!! You needn't market yourself. Period.

We want to learn more about X-rays and what not. That's not such a bad thing. When I did get a stress fracture in my feet, they scanned the heck out of me, with MRI's, X-rays, what not. Not very conclusive though. So when is it useful? Do you get a different diagnosis depending on who did the reading? Is it subjective or objective?

Just now ran across this video and 2 things: Radiology is totally sexy. You get to look at people's most intimate insides through cool technology and potentially save their lives by detecting fatal bleeds or other unseen trauma. And you totally dodged a bullet not going on the Oz show; your credibility would have been ruined.

Apparently, we are boring and we wear brown socks all the time! haha :P Of course I would watch you on that show!
