I often hear people worrying about wasting a good outfit on an insignificant day, but I'm more concerned with wasting a significant day on a bad outfit. Your day will only be as amazing and important as you allow it to be! You are so right to say that tomorrow is not guaranteed. The way I get ready each morning shows how determined I am to make the day ahead an important day.

I really love this message. It's common to hear people say they only dress up for special occasions. I have said this too. But, if we really think about it, every day that we're alive is a special occasion. We often take our time on earth for granted. Every day should be a celebration of life.

On September 14th 2018 , my sister's boyfriend (who also happened to be my good friend and co-worker) didn't wake up. He passed away at the age of 29 and it shook me to my core. Tomorrow is NOT a given. If we have no guarantee of tomorrow, isn't today THE most important day of your life thus far? Somebody in the comments section criticized this video saying "I'm not going to wear a ball gown to go buy bread" and missed the entire point. I'm not asking you to dress in your fanciest, most expensive clothing regularly. I'm asking you to put SOME EXTRA EFFORT into how you present yourself. Maybe for you, that means running a comb through your hair and NOT wearing sweatpants today. For me, it means purposefully planning a NICE (not over-the-top) outfit every morning. We are the ones that make the things, events, and people in our lives important. We do that! It is our attitude and actions towards things that make them important. I am asking you to see yourself as important and valuable! I'm not asking you to go buy bread in a ball gown. I'm asking you to put in some effort because you are worth it. Also, one more thing that I wanted to add to my note, when I mention that I am 'uneducated' or 'unintelligent' - I do not believe that for a second. I intentionally chose to leave school to pursue my passion and develop it. I do not think that I am either of those things. I spend a large amount of my time researching the things that matter to me, especially when it comes to The Rachel Review. I was just trying to make a point that if you base your measure of intelligence or worth off of other people's opinions (excluding those close to you with your best interests at heart) - you will never feel like you measure up! :)

Hi Rachel. It's hard to tell what triggered this video .. But you seemed emotionally charged. Hope all is well. Also, about people misreading the message you are giving out, I'd just say people learn only what they are ready to learn, when they are ready to learn. I think you are the most hardworking and polite KZfaqr. You really walk the talk. I can tell even though I dont personally know you. 😀😊 Obsessing over the small details is good, because that means you are passionate about what you do. Thank you for the message!

Rachel, I am very sorry to hear about your sister's boyfriend, my sincere condolences. I was brought up with a grandmother and a mother who put on a nice dress/outfit every time they stepped out of the house. Whether they went to a family gathering or the supermarket, they always put their best effort. The way I see it, it takes the same effort to put on sweatpants and a t-shirt or a nice pair of jeans with a nice top/blouse. My husband and I are close to paying off college loans and our mortgage so I have a budget which I stick to.I usually get compliments on dresses/outfits from Dress Barn, Old Navy, Target, and/or SteinMart. I usually buy items on sale with added coupons. If it is a special occasion, I will spend a little more. I am 57 years young, I run half marathons, and love dressing up! Love your channel! Keep up the great work! Love and blessings from Texas!

Sometimes we avoid dressing up because of the reaction of others. Some people act insulted that you have the nerve to dress nicely! One acquaintance made it a point to put on her invitation for a girls get together that the attire was very casual. The best advice I got from the old What Not to Wear tv show was that we must not let what others are wearing determine what we wear. If everyone wants to be sloppy that doesn’t mean that I have to join in. Great video!

Wanda - I remember that show! Great tips! & yes, I agree with you completely! I have had (former) friends appear almost repulsed by the fact that I choose to dress up. It used to bother me until I realized that it was something they felt they lacked in themselves and nothing really to do with me at all. Thank you for watching and for sharing!! 😀

Thank you.... I just came through the dressing up/or not journey. I retired from my legal secretary job and we moved from a metro city to a very small town. I no longer needed to dress up and then menopause hit and with no where to go I let myself gain 30 pounds and no longer wore makeup and would just mostly sit around in worn jeans and graphic t shirts, even when grocery shopping, but I did put makeup on for the store. I saw people at Wal Mart (only big store in town) wearing pajamas that looked like they were worn for a week or more, did not understand going that far down the rabbit hole. I was also consumed with taking care of my mother who was dying of old age. Then one day I really caught sight of myself and I no longer recognized the person I had become, and decided I needed to change back to the person who cared how I looked. I changed to an all organic diet and went back to exercising (one time body builder, so I new what to do, just had to do the work) I started putting makeup on everyday, and wearing better clothes, didn't want too many clothes at the time cause I knew loosing weight fit would be a problem. I finally lost the 30 pounds and am back into a size 4/6 tall clothes. I feel so much better all my blood work is back to normal and yesterday I turned 63, went out to dinner with hubby and dressed up (classic chic) and hubby said I looked really nice in my outfit. Big plus. The journey was something I had to do for myself, no one else can do it for you. Thank you again. You make a real difference.

Very well said. People (other women) have tried to make me feel bad or guilty for always putting myself together. They would say, “oh you are so lucky you have time to do that, I have kids, so I can’t.” Or “when you have been married for a while, you stop caring.” Well, my mom had kids and NEVER left the house without full hair and makeup, she MADE time. I have been married for 11 years this year, and I never “stopped caring.” I learned early on to stop apologizing for wanting to look good. I’m now a nurse manager, but when I did direct patient care, I always did my hair and makeup with my scrubs, and some people really judged me for that too. I felt like patients responded better to me when I looked good, they appreciated the fact that I made an effort for them. I still get judged for looking “dressed up.” But now I don’t care, and it’s disappointing that people are more accepted in pajamas in public than a blazer!

This is so true and it made my day. My mom left her work to take care of me and my brother. She was a nurse. She always dressed impecably. Even if she was at home. Heels and all. She taught me what looks good on me, how to be classy and kind. I am in the middle of my last semester of law school now, here it lasts five years. Since first year I started to build up slowly the wardrobe I need and want for my job. And I have done 4 internships and found out that I was better dressed than some of the already lawyers that worked there. In the biggest law firms in the country!!! And I was like... what?!? Giiiirl is a pencil skirt and blouse, put on a blazer and you are good to go. And like you said, you do not have to be rich, lord knows I am not, I am a student. And maybe my pencil skirt has a little bit of sinthetic fabric in it, but it fits, and it looks good and I took a minute for myself in the morning and dressed as the lawyer I want to become. And while on classes, yes I won’t wear heels and a pencil skirt, but a beautiful blouse with trousers and flats will look good, and I just do not feel confortable wearing anything less put together than that, even when my friends say “why are you so dressed up?” - “because I want to and I feel confident. Period.” Thank you for reminding me, I am not wrong or over dressed. I love all your videos and your small youtube community.

Yes! Paula you are right on track! Oftentimes I find that when people think they cannot do something (ex. dress well or dress up nicely) they will criticize or attack the person doing it! Dressing the part is half the battle - - you are going to be an incredible lawyer!! Besides, everybody knows the best lawyers pay attention to detail - even if that means choosing a pencil skirt and a pretty blouse! 😄 Thank you so much for watching the video and sharing your story with us!!

I think people confuse comfort with sloppy. I see people going to graduations like they came in from working in the yard. Even if we are at home everyday we can fix our hair and makeup, put on clean ironed jeans and shirt. Casual can still look nice and neat. I feel better when I look nice. Education and celebrity or power doesn't add to importance. I agree with you. How we see ourselves and how others see us has to do with how we look. Nice neat clean clothes don't have to be expensive or formal.

Every day is special and you are so right that we are not guaranteed tomorrow. We should look our best every day rather than settle for mediocrity. Why not celebrate each day because each day is a gift and look your best? And if you believe you are made in the image and likeness of God, then you are royalty and very special and unique!

Thank you for making this video, Rachel. I totally hear you. Last September, I made the decision to deliberately "dress up" every day whether I was leaving the house or not and regardless of the occasion. I used the tips from you and other You Tubers to give myself a complete makeover. What a difference that decision has made! I am the most self assured I have been in my entire life. I get noticed when I walk into a room and get accorded a higher status just based on my appearance. I feel strong, confident and powerful. I carry myself with pride and dignity and I am definitely accorded more respect wherever I go. I can attest to the fact that when you dress better people think you're doing better and therefore they treat you better. It's so simple: dress well every day because YOU deserve it.

@@TheRachelReview I am very thankful for your great advice. I work in a school, I have been working as extra teacher but mainly support to another teacher. My clothes got ruined and I lost earrings etc because my work is a bit of a mess, and I have to be a lot outside as well, and I quickly have to take on/off jacket and scarf (in winter) and do things fast (run!!) to follow a special needs child. I got upset att my clothes and shoes getting ruined, so I started buying extremely cheap clothes (not very pretty though...) and I do not feel so nice dressed any longer... I was disappointed that my nice clothes got so worn out so I just didn't want to continue using them to work... Also, my salary is pretty low, so I have a low budget. I am a single mother since many years, my children are young adults now though. I just wonder if you have some good advise on how I can solve this in a smart way? Thank you and God bless you always Rachel!

I always 'dress up' for my day appropriately. For me is a matter of self respect. I have met/worked with people who did not/or could not make an effort ; either because they have been put down so much that they do not believe they are worth anything, least of all themselves. Plus others suffer from depression - which is a serious illness. But some people dress casually/slovenly as their statement, to be controversial.

Fully agree! Dress up and be well groomed for yourself first and foremost. You are actually showing those around you that you have respect for yourself and instantly are treated with respect. We’re not talking lux, high end, get a blow out every week etc. It’s about daily grooming and wearing clothes that not only represent you and is tailored to you but of great quality. Honestly, 80% of my clothes now are second hand but in pristine condition and only natural fibers (tipping my hat off to you Rachel!) and I’ve never felt more confident in what I wear and I see that even the words I say are given more weight simply because I respect myself and THOSE AROUND ME enough to look my best. Thanks Rachel for sharing this much needed message! Keep doing you, girl!

💖 You brought tears to my eyes just a few moments into the video, with your raw, genuine candor and feisty passion. I am so glad I found your channel. I am currently a stay at home mom with 4 little ones, and I found myself again after dealing with depression last year by making sure that I got dressed (nicely) daily, doing my makeup, treating myself as if I was an important lady and giving myself that self-respect did so much for helping pull me out of postpartum depression. I resolved to show up to my life in a way that conveyed an instant impression of what kind of personality I am. I now look forwards to getting dressed nicely every day, and it IS possible while being surrounded by tiny tots and babies. Never let sloppiness have an excuse 💕

But I firmly believe that we all have graces / gifts that are unique to us and once we take the time to figure those out and develop them - amazing things can happen! I will pray for you to grow and to enjoy this transition you are going through - remember its only a transition for now, not FOREVER! Much love - Rachel ❤️

Rachel, you're my spirit animal! I love this so much. And I admit, as a work at home mom to a 4-year-old boy I struggle with this on days that I don't have to "be" someone other than mommy. But lately the phrase "how you do anything is how you do everything" has been in my head on repeat, and I think this is a perfect example. I'm going to go start putting together outfits for the next week so I have no excuse to default to pajama jeans and a hoodie. Even if no one else sees me...I see me. Thank you for reminding me of that!

Why don't I get a little dressed up every day, even if it's just to run to the grocery store. Yesterday I got a little dressed up for church. I felt amazing. When you take care of your appearance, people tend to automatically show you a bit more respect and gravitate towards you. Great post!

So true. You made my day. I am a model and a high school maths/science nerdy student. I take pride in my appearance and I adopt a timeless/vintage inspired styleI. Since primary school I have been ostracized for that. However I know I am important, as you say, and expressing myself by dressing up makes me feel good and feel worthy of my ambitions. I look at others who laugh at me and honestly I am at a stage where I just feel sorry for them. They have no self esteem, and that is reflected in their need to follow the herd and look like clones. I don't judge other people's style so long as it is clear that it represents them as individuals and makes them feel good. And for me, that means dressing up.

YESSS PREACH!!! God has opened my eyes to this topic this year sometime around Spring. I never used to dress up when at home, but then I began to realize that my motives needed to change. I only ever felt the need to dress up if I knew I would be outside but that was not good. I was literally only choosing to dress up in order to please others rather than pleasing myself. As of now, I continually dress up everday and from this change, I noticed how much more happier I have become and I feel more beautiful too 💜😁 We are so important to God and if He sees us as of great importance, we need to reflect that same amount of importance each day by taking care of how we adorn and treat ourselves. Also, regarding weddings, I 200% agree!!! When I think about weddings, they should ALL resemble a Royal - like atmosphere!:D AND YOU ARE SO IMPORTANT 😘

I agree with you 100%. I remember thinking, (when I was young and didn't always try to look my best), "I am being almost offensive by looking plane or not putting in enough effort." OMG I just paused the video to write this. And when I resumed it, the first words you said were, "When you put in effort into the way you look." Hahahahaha I just paused the video again to write, "You teach people how to treat you." Dr. Phil. Isn't it funny how we don't expect other people to be perfect, but somehow deep down, we expect ourselves to be perfect. I did watch it until the end. I do dress up. People ask me where am I going and I say, "Here." My mom told me that when I was really young, I must have thought I was a princess because I would change my clothes 3-4xs a day. I love fashion. And I love you. You are very wise and entertaining.

I stumbled upon your videos and I kept watching because I need help with dressing and I loved that you talk about modesty and inner beauty. As I watched, I started wondering “why should I dress up? I’m a stay at home mom, my stretched out jeans and t shirts are good enough to wear while teaching my children and cleaning the house. Why waste my time watching this when I only go to church (and work with kids there so not much dressing up), the grocery store and appts here and there.” And then I saw this one. I needed this one. I like to dress up and I don't see it as an effort, I just like it, I like to look good, I like fashion and also stylish clothes. Yes, it doesn't mean to wear your most expensive dress when going to the supermarket, it's about respecting yourself and knowing it's up to you if you want to look and feel good! On the other hand I personally don't understand women that doesn't care how they look, who just grab the first blouse they see in the wardrobe and doesn't even think whether their clothes combine, about their hair or make up..... l love your video it's very inspiring, the message in it is so powerful!🙂❤❤❤
