Early morning in the 'south core' of Thunder Bay would be more accurate. There was one shot of Court St. which is in the 'north core'. The 'north core' of Thunder Bay has a substantial marina, and has what is becoming the entertainment and dining hub as well. Well accessible parks and trail systems are located much more in the north part of the city.

There is a reason, in my opinion, that the streets are empty today. I"m 74 years old and was born and raised in Current River neighbor hood. During the 50's and 60's Port Arthur and Fort William, now Thunder Bay were in a boom time. Most if not all the grain from the Prairies was shipped through Thunder Bay and all east/ west traffic had to pass through the city. Then the west coast and Churchill Manitoba built grain handling facilities which diverted grain away from Thunder Bay. Around the same time the Express Way was constructed to by-pass the city which had a devastating effect on tourism and the commercial industry as people could now refuel and continue on with out the need to actually go through the city. Thunder Bay tried desperately to reinvent itself as the outdoor life go to which had a moderate effect as the population has barely risen in the last fifty years. It remains a beautiful area with plenty of interesting sites and things to do.

Thank you for some history about city - we saw some historical photos in hotel when we stayed in Thunder Bay, and were surprised to learn that it was busy city in last century. It is actually really nice city, especially with all nature and wilderness around - there is so much to do for outdoor enthusiasts and explorers.

In a previous video you showed Kakabeka Falls 20 minutes from Thunder Bay and the Terry Fox monument. There are other areas of Thunder Bay that are missing from the video like Current River, Hillcrest Park, Mount McKay lookout and Old Fort William. Just some places that could show the scenic areas. I know you couldn’t cover everything but the tired streets of the city don’t tell the whole story.

Looks like a zombie apocalyptic area. Like the aftermath of it. Everyone's dead. What's the crime rate there? I have heard its higher there as compared to other cities bcoz its too lonely there. No wonder why canada is calling immigrants!! This country is massively huge in land and no people to fill. The industry and economy will die if there will be no people there. Immigrants are then only hope there to keep the cities like this ALIVE and running!
@lvfreeAdventures
@lvfreeAdventures Жыл бұрын
I don't think there is a significant correlation between population size and how well economy is doing... many examples around the globe. Canada was doing really good last century when population was way smaller. I think the problem is with corporation's greed and profit taking jobs to cheaper labor places.

Thunder bay is now a dump..they have lost 90% of industry there..high unemployment and high crime. They lost the grain elevators...Canada car...two pulpmills... northern wood veneer plant..fish caneries and bombadier only low paying service jobs mostly there now. One pulp mill left and that one is in trouble now 2024..no logging and next to none tree planting. We used to go there for the odd weekend from Manitouwadge in the 1980s and that city was booming but not any more.

This was our first visit to Thunder Bay, and we were surprised to see how quiet it is. This city with such a big potential (resources, outdoors, wilderness, lake...) - it should be booming!
