@Gamevet

@itheuser First I'm 51 and was listening to the music of that era. I think that Clapton is pretty good, but he's way over-rated to me. I believe it was Pete Townsend that met up with Clapton and talked about how they were doomed. This new guy named Jimi Hendrix was doing things with a guitar that he couldn't even imagine doing.
@NewbieGuitaristBeily

Clapton is an interesting one. He made a lot of good songs and a lot of terrible ones. On one hand you have his stuff with Cream and on the other you have Riding with the King and his 2010 album. Most guitar players can play like him after a year of practice. Even by measure of his contemporaries there were better players - Page, Hendrix, Beck, Knopfler, Alman and literally any jazz guitarist. I guess Clapton became Clapton because he was pushing the boundaries of electric guitar and was one of the first music superstars and serves as an inspiration to this day for a lot of guitarists. The man doesn't deserve hate.

Clapton introduced me to the blues. After years of researching, studying, listening... not only to the music but the culture, Clapton is a true bluesman. He took from the originators, made his own, has shared and brought many others into the spotlight. The thing I find most interesting about Clapton is that though he is a killer player, he seems to LOVE playing rhythm and staying in the background from time to time.

Man, Clapton is kind of underappreciated in some aspects. He influenced so many people, and his tone is unmatched, such a clean player. If you want the raunchiest... Jim McCarty is hard to beat in that department..Leslie west is close. Love all those dudes

Clapton... possibly rock's greatest guitarist. He's influenced countless many. Been around before and after all the others... he's still relevant and he's in the rock and roll hall of fame three times... there are many intangible ways to rate an artist, but the numbers are a great place to start,and the numbers don't lie.

Hide Away" or "Hideaway" is a blues guitar instrumental that has become "a standard for countless blues and rock musicians performing today". First recorded in 1960 by Freddie King, the song became a hit on the record charts.

I had never paid attention to Eric Clapton when I was learning to play - I was a Keith Richards fan and loved funky rhythm guitar. Then I heard the brief intro that Clapton played when Lennon introduced him and the band at this concert. Just a handful of notes. Incredible. Started listening to Clapton in depth after that. Admire this vid and your channel!

Eric Clapton is a great guy, very humble. I find his guitar playing to be very good but he never makes me tingle in the way Hendrix or Jeff Beck or Knopfler or Gilmour can. Am I missing something?

Nice video. You really nail Clapton's use of vibrato. IMHO what makes him so brilliant, and so admired by other guitarists, is the subtlety of his technique. I liked how you mentioned his raunchy playing, which he seems to eschew. One of my favorite raunchy riffs of his is the lead part on "Those Were the Days" off the Wheels of Fire album. He really turns it loose and plays a blistering part. I also really like your discussion of his songwriting skills. He seems to have felt awkward in this regard in his early work, but really blossomed later on. His chord progressions are unique and not the typical progressions you find from other guitarists. Such a talented musician.
